For the blue color I feed my hydrangea coffee grounds. Two years ago, I fed it a lot of coffee grounds and it was a very intense blue. Last year I didn’t feed it nearly as much in coffee grounds and it was a noticeably less intense blue. Pink hydrangea does sound pretty. Maybe I can feed it some old baking Soda or expired milk.
Thank you so much for this very clear and straight fotward explaination, I was exactly looking for someone to tell this You should b a teacher .. 💖💖💖💖💚💛🧡❤💜
I let go and let God- and low and behold! My hydrangeas are a deep rich purple! One that I've not seen before in hydrangeas. I adore the color- and now I know why they are such a color. My soil is neutral! Love it
p.s. I want to stress the message in this video... YEARS... I think a lot of people expect instant gratification and nature doesn't work "Instantly". He didn't say how long it would take to change the colors of the flowers, but he did say YEARS so don't expect to go to bed and wake up to a rainbow.
You had a very good explanation for changing colors.....much appreciated. But I have been told that many of the newer cultavars will not change colors as the older more common hydrangeas. I planted one called "Forever Pink" two years ago and it was a very pronounced pink....... This year, 2022 it is a very pronounced blue and I added nothing. Can you you explain? is it just my soil is too basic in PH.......... ????
I homeschool my daughter. 2 years ago I gave her an ongoing science experiment & let her change the Blu Hydrangea we planted to pink. I used the old Irish trick my grandpa taught me, 3 rusty nails stuck in the soil around the roots.
i,ve got a white hydrangea with 4 years {in a container} but this year it had a pink tinge on the petals, is there any way I can keep it white. my neighbours say it is just an odd plant they call it the albino. thank you for this video most informative
Thanks for the video. It made understanding the process easier. But I was wondering, I got myself a small mop-head 2 weeks back. When I got it, it was a sort of whitish. And then after a few days it started changing color and now it's lavender-ish and day by day it's becoming blue. So, I was wondering, does this mean that my soil is acidic? Or does it have something to do with the fact that I have been keeping the plant in a shaded area?
I've seen single plants with all three colours. How does that work?? I just assumed that all the flowers would change at the same rate, but perhaps what I saw was a plant in transition and different parts of the plant change colour at different rates?
My big hydrangea has blue, pink, purple and cream color flowers on it. I haven't ever put anything on my soil. I give her a the Miracle-Gro in the summer time. Could you please tell me why i get all color's. Also some of them are light green???
This is so true. I read about aluminium sulfate too. I didn’t have any, so I got me a piece of alloy and ground it down on my grind stone wheel. Took the grindings and put them in a pint of water, and poured it on the roots. The same year I had blue hydrangeas. Just couldn’t believe it. Ain’t TH-cam fantastic? Will report what happens in 2021,
It's now (obviously fall) here in southeastern MI. I will be putting my new hydrangeas in this weekend. If I chose to add it, should add it in the spring to give them time to get somewhat established first?
If I plant a few hydrangeas near my hostas, will the aluminum sulfate be a treat to the hostas? This will be my first go with the hydrangeas. One thing is, the location I'll be planting the hydrangeas once had a 40 ft pine tree that was taken down after an ice storm. I'm thinking that soil should be on the acidic side. Thanks for the helpful video
I've had endless summer hydrangeas for 5 years. This year the normal pink blooms are very, very pale. (we've had a lot of rain and I suspect that is the cause?) What do I need to add the soil?? (I was gradually adding the aluminum sulfate to make it blue which is what I want)
My hydrangeas used to be a nice blend of pink and blue (kind of a lavender), then as they settled in with the soil they just turned pink. For 3 or 4 years I have tried different acidifiers to turn them blue. But instead, they end up white. Ok, I know add some lime to make them pink again right? But how will I ever get to blue? (they are the type that is able to do this)
Had you mentioned which product raised or lowered the Ph of your medium, it would've been that much better. Fixing to work with a couple of these myself I think..

Do you have to mix the coffee ground into the soil or can you sprinkle it on top of the soil?
can I just add fresh coffee ground?

The uniqueness of hydrangeas. ..so awesome! !
Still one of my favorite videos! Thanks for sharing.
I like the "bluerple" colour jaja
Very well done, by the way. Thanks
Tea bags or rusty metal, introduced around the roots does the job efficiently.
I've used this method successfully for decades.
For what color?
@@SandyKH
Red or blue.
Yup! Planting a rusty nail at the base of the plants is the classic trick.
my dad did this in the 60's. Neighbors thought he was a magician !
pro trick : you can watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.

Thanks for the info God bless you fantastic idea bye
They all are awesome
Thank you for a complete and well rounded explanation!
I have some in a container. They're more light pink at the moment, but it's the weirdest plant because it goes blue, pink, burgundy and green.
I have a potted Hydrangea that does the same. I bought it with no label.. I think it might be the “Revolution” variety.
PERFECTLY EXPLAINED..CHEERS
Thanks very good information 👍

When should you add the alum+water? Does it matter? Should I do it in the spring?
I have a plan and design biology lab based on this and i thank you for this video, it helped alot

I will give it a go. Do you know anything about Hellebores and why they change colour...…… would that also be about the PH.
so do you need to add lime every year to the plant?
Can we do this process for other flowers also?

Your soil changed.
The soil in the pot was of a different acidity balance to that in your garden.
So it's crystal alum u apply
