- This character guide is meant to give new players some context on the characters and hopefully some tips. It is not meant to be an exhaustive guide on any character.
The inherent problem with character rankings are that although each character can be objectively be better or worse each player can also have a different play style. What works for some might not work for others.
There are also people who suck (Everyone does at one point) and think characters who are bad are good because they are easy to play at first but when you get better other better characters will perform better. (I.E. They are a crutch)
Take it with a grain of salt I might make a better character guide if I feel like it.

What!? I love Willow! If her sanity is low, I'll just light things on fire 🔥. Nothing makes Willow happier than forest fires. But it's easy to keep fires isolated and hop from fire to fire during the nights. I can 100% shred with Willow.

Willow can completely manage her own sanity. She's really strong. No disadvantages to play Willow when you get control over your sanity management. At night, she GAINS sanity from being near your fire pit.
Anyone who likes Wendy should play Willow. Better sanity management, total immunity to Charlie and the loss of Abigail doesn't matter past the mid game when Abigail gets killed by everything dangerous.
Tiger H. Lore, Willow is the worst in my opinion, sorry to be rude. She lights fire when nervous, so you can burn your base down, the fact that she can raise her sanity up by burning things, is just the worst. How bout in day 100 or more, and your whole world is just empty because you keep exploring and you keep burning things at the same time. She FREEZES when insane, she still can get overheated in summer or near fires. Willow in DST has Bernie which can protect you from nightmares, sure, that's good but Bernie doesn't help you fight according to John Watson's video.
You can cook food with your lighter in DST, but cooking doesn't really help you at all, it just gives you additional health and less time to rot. Just eat crockpot dishes or butterfly wings to get health. Overall, Willow is a fun character, but you need to be careful to manage your sanity, sorry if you just wasted your time reading this whole fucking comment and learned nothing. I know I'm late.
You can also stand under trees to get sheltered from the rain as WX78.

+Kai Toshiki Crockpot > cooked food. Also her lighter doesn't even compare to a torch in light radius which increases sanity loss. It's okay but it's not really that great.
+Kulthozuer of course a crockpot is better and a torch is better, though it's still a mini portable campfire. Don't think it's worth ditching the MINUTE you enter the world as Willow. plus burning trees for free instead of wasting materials on a torch is a plus. also, Bernie = Life

I love Willow because I tend to have a trouble keeping sanity up but with her it's super easy. Plus you get a free light source if you end up almost dying from night. Just my opinion :)
+mpk0422 Sounds good, she is super easy early game but runs into trouble when you are facing off with the giants mid game and dealing with the caves, you have to be super careful to not light your base on fire.
Just a tip, you may or may not know this but if you pick flowers you restore sanity😃
I am aware, replanting flowers is a chore and if your not Wig then butterflys are a bomb resources I try and only pick flowers when I need to.

Willow is my favourite character to play along with Wendy. Her 'disbenefit' (not a word by the way) never comes into play. Ever. She gains sanity from standing near fire, so all you need is a garland and your regular fire pit and you never drop below 115/120 sanity. I have never ever had sanity problems with her. The only problem is when you need to gather beard hair/nightmare fuel etc. But in that situation I just lower her sanity with a Nightmare Amulet and stand away from anything flammable. Trust me, Willow is one of the easiest and best characters to play if you know how.

I love all these people saying my sanity never drops below 115/120. Did you play for more than 5 days? Bosses make you lose almost 7 sanity PER SECOND standing next to them. Upload a video where you don't drop below 115/120 sanity please. I prefer to not spend every waking moment about sanity seeing as it can be completely ignored on any other character and you'll be fine (I pretty much did that in my let's play)
I save up jerky for bosses so sanity isn't a huge issue.
Kitche Vadimas The major point being people praise willow for her lighter when you can get a better light source 10 seconds into the game. Her fire immunity you can replace with the Scalemail and her sanity gain is pointless once you make a fire farm which you can make before day 10 if you tryhard it. She is just not that good and you can NEVER replace the fact that anytime you go below 60 sanity you can light your base on fire.
Willow is still a great noob character even if she's outclassed in late game; her lighter and sanity gain from fire mean you never really have to worry about Charlie or sanity. She can hold out the lighter pretty much 24/7 for passive sanity gain during the day, something you can't do with torches. Most players might not want to blink torches due to sanity loss and lack of vision. (Although if you're not going to spend most of the night completely blind, why not use the lighter instead so you don't have to...)
Kitche Vadimas True I just believe she is a crutch because she will make sanity easier but at very high costs and she only offers benefits you can get from playing correctly where as wigfrid, wolfgang, wicker and to a minor extent webber, woody have traits that are pretty good or VERY good (Books are insane) and absolutely no drawbacks that can't be overcome incredibly easy where as Wendy's drawback can never be overcame and is a constant issue if you ever need to go to the ruins or fight a boss.

Immunity to fire isnt that big of a benefit because fire is a very small threat to you. Moving on to the "disbenefit", fire is the biggest danger to you in the entire game!

For WX78 you can get pigskin fairly early in the game by making a hammer and finding a pig village
He was likely referring to the fact WX has early game requirements for pigskin versus other characters. Rain prevention can be important for WX-78 if you start in Spring and an umbrella and a football helmet will completely protect you from rain.

Mostly dress items. Umbrella + Football helm is probably the earliest 100% coverage that also gives you armor (So you can use a backpack still)

First of all if you give a rating that's intended to be somewhat objective you can't give Webber 7/10 and Wigfrid 10/10. Webber is objectively easier than Wigfrid to play with and the easiest character in the game due to his easy (even easier than Wigfrid) access to harmless monster meat.
Maxwell in the caves and ruins is very good as you don't have room on your head for the tamoshanter. Keeping mushrooms in your inventory is a hassle, jerky is ok, but I wouldn't want to waste them on just sanity. His sword does a lot of damage and the low hp only matters if you run out of armor. You will also rarely be interrupted by shadow creatures mid fight because of the insanity auras. I'd say after Webber Maxwell is the best for exploring the caves and ruins.
Not to be rude but if your at the place where you possibly think you can "waste" jerky then your not not in the position to be giving advice. By day 50 you can easily be filling iceboxes with stacks of jerky if you know what your doing. With icechester as well there really is not reason to use any other food besides jerky. Webber is not "Objectively easier" Wigfrid has higher stats, and can gain sanity and healthy from killing. I keep hearing about how webber can safely eat monster meat. If you are 'safely' eating monster meat you are doing it very wrong. Make meatballs, you get more of every stat from eating meatballs than monster meat for the exact same amount of meat.
Jerky is a resource, just as mushrooms. Meat have to be gathered, hung on drying racks for some time, then collected. Thus using them when you are not hungry is a waste of time and effort.
Meatballs have to be made in crock pots (ie in your base) and have to have filler in addition to the monster meat, which you have to spend more time time gathering than Webber does getting monster meat. Webber is easier because he can get food pretty much wherever and whenever he needs it. This is especially useful in adventure mode.
Wigfrid may have higher stats, but with the spider allies (available pretty much anywhere unlike rock lobsters) Webber has way higher dps and can stay out of the fighting himself. In addition: spiders, which are one of the major enemies in the caves and ruins, are his friends which means even less trouble with exploring those areas. Webber may be weaker against giants with aoe attacks, but those are not a major part of a game and if you can beat them with Wigfrid you can beat them with Webber. It'll just take slightly more time.
If we are talking about which is the easier character the character that doesn't have to fight must be easier than the character that does have to fight and the character who can eat anything must be easier than a character who is severely limited in what she can eat.
I don't think you understand... Jerky is a non issue, when you can gather 5, 20 stacks of large meat per day from a fire farm or bunnyman farm then all you have to do it click a couple times in a drying rack field and there you go. It's not "a resource just as mushrooms" because you can't just fill 2 chests with mushrooms in a day. Not all resources are created equal.
Then with meatballs you have to spend more time, but do you really? For the hunger value it takes less time to kill one spider and then harvest 3 berry bushes then it does to kill 3-4 spiders especially if you don't have a cove of level 3 dens and you get more hunger, sanity and health. To be clear, it is more efficient to cook your monster meat into meatballs as Webber by a large margin and there is no debating that. If you are running out of food on the go then you didn't bring enough food with you.
And when it comes to "DPS" no one does more DPS than Wolfgang or Wendy if your going to be insane about it. Giants aren't a huge part of the game but somehow spiders are? Spiders are very weak followers and your forgetting you can recruit spiders but pig men are literally just better, they have more health and do more damage and attempt to kite. Giants can ruin you, a spider den cannot. If you are getting killed by spiders in this game you have more problems to worry about. Webber gets attacked by pigs, bunnymen and catcoons. Spiders offer very little, the pig king, catcoons and bunnymen offer way more.
You said for example when discussing Wolfgang that food is an issue and hunger is the hardest to maintain so I didn't think we were talking about fire farms (which is really a kind of duplication glitch anyway) and having everything already. I thought we were talking about which character was easiest to play with when you don't have anything and are at least somewhat struggling to survive.
Spiders are everywhere and you cross paths all the time. They may not be a cause of death so much as they are an annoyance and hindrance on your path. Giants only spawn once every other season or so and unlike spiders are usually a welcome sight because of their rewards.
Giants may wreck your shit, but I don't see how switching to Wigfrid would change that. You either can kite them or you cannot and you either have other options or you do not. Wigfrid only makes the fight slightly shorter, but Wolfgang makes it even shorter so if that's your standard for rating characters why isn't Wolfgang rated higher? In fact maybe you should listen again to what you said about Wolfgang in the video because as mentioned that's relevant to the "you can't waste food because it is so easy to get" discussion too.
Fire farms do not involve any duplication whatsoever so I don't know where you got that. I wouldn't say spiders are everywhere I get plenty of maps where I have to actively look for them.
And yes when we start splitting hairs and you get into the fact that some characters are actually not as hard as they seem as your skill goes up and down. I maintain that a good character will improve as you get better not become a poorer character choice such as Webber. Calling Wigfrids better armor, spear and 25% damage bonus minor is such an overstatement I believe she has a really good balance between what is helpful for new comers and what is helpful for development (I.E. not learning to eat raw monster meat which isn't good for any character) and relying on meatballs early game and then jerky when you are ready.
And for the record someone who is struggling with this game is going to be much better off preparing for giants and those objectively way more difficult fights than a spider which can be killed by holding the F key.
This started by you saying Webber is objectively easier but I am saying Wigfrid is objectively easier because Meatballs ARE more efficient and easier to get than monster meat and when it comes to end game, jerky nullifies the need for befriending spiders. I believe Wigfrid is a better choice early, middle and late game than Webber. If you are using resources correctly Wigfrid has no downsides as her ONLY downside is only eating meat and the only non meat item that is worth eating is butterfly wings, muffins and honey early game and she has such an easy time early game its a non issue. For a new player this is very simple information to understand and worth with where as someone like Wolfgang who is probably objectively better than Wigfrid if your not new is very difficult to maintain early game.

The only disbenefit to Wilson is, as a Jack of All Trades, he's a master of none.
Your dislike of Willow is entirely unwarranted. Her advantages far outweigh her disadvantages. For one, sanity isn't going to be a problem for Willow so long as you can stand by a fire at night. Secondly, you can just stand there with her lighter out and avoid the night monster entirely if you're ever running out of fuel. This also makes her great for exploring caves because it allows you to save on fuel for your lantern or the twigs and sticks to make torches. I've also found the immunity to fire damage very useful. Freezing to death? Light something on fire and stand right on top of it for maximum warmth. Willow definitely ranks higher than Wes.

Sanity isn't a problem for any character. Her immunity to fire damage is her only REALLY good asset besides making a sanity shrine.
This video has inspired me to make my own character guide. And it won't have continued use of the word "disbenefit" so that's already a plus!

minecraft catguy you can get him on the first or second day by playing Wolfgang or wendy, first day make a science machine(this world will just be to unlock webber) have spiders and Graves increased. Go to strongman mode or activate Abigail and start grinding spiders, dig a grave and put in weberrs head

Personally, Willow is my favorite character because when I played as her, that was when I got the farthest so far in the game.

I like this video. Other videos I've seen that go over each character can seem very biased, but this one seems to be looking at both the pros and cons.
Wolfgang is OP, he is SO EASY to feed him. Explore everywhere then you get berries or carrots, and eat them, boom, you can fight everything easily with a full belly, plus you get more health. Losing sanity more means more nightmares, you can easily fight them, then get sanity and nightmare fuel back, to make the strongest weapon in late game.

Willow is kind of underrated - even though she burns stuff when insane, she also has no sanity problems if you have something to burn. She can light stuff in her inventory, which allows her to free her hands for a while. Her low amount of sanity is also welcome, as it allows to control it with less resources. She doesn't really have any big disadvantages, unlike wolfgang and wx.

I agree with most of your rating for the characters except for wolfgang and webber.
I would argue that Wolfgang is the BEST character in the game next to Wigfrid simply because his mechanics provide a very high skill cap. Once you get to a point where food is no longer a problem and skilled enough to where sanity is easy, Hes basically all upsides and booses from RoG just melt. So personally i would rate him up there with wigfrid.
Webber on the other hand i would rate much lower than you did in the video. Now i know a lot of people reeealy like Webber but I'm not sure why. personally i just find the company of pigs to be much much better than spiders who are weak and greedy. The ability to craft eggs is unimportant considering that eggs are infinite if you wait for a spider queen ad the recipe is just too expensive to bother. And like you said the web beard is nice but not noteworthy.Additionally, you cant have pets like chester and glommer :'(In Don't Starve Together He is also terrible because 1: your team cant set up next to pigs and 2: If your team has a Wendy then RIP in pepperoni Abigail just whacks your through your armour if you just so breath near her.If anybody has any opposing opinions I would like to hear them.
+Kayto _ I am working on a new char guide with ranking that takes into account early, mid and late game. Wolfgang will be ranked higher and Webber lower, also Wigfrid will be ranked lower. She is arguably one of the most OP characters early and mid game but Wickerbottom, Wolfgang and Wx-78 are all far better late game. I still highly recommend her for people who are struggling.
I have had a lot of defense of webber from people on this video, he really doesn't have anything special about him that makes him great but being the king of spiders and leading a spider army to conquer the world is fucking cool.

Kyoto, i would have to disagree about webber, as hes not S teir like wicker, her books are op, sleeping is useless anyways, and its easy to deal with spoilage, and wx, wx is wx, and the strongman, cause yes hes S teir, your right about the management giving skill cap, but hes A tier, he can start wars between spiders and spam pickup, get the meat and silk, which isn too good, but infinite spider glands, which is so useful, especially in dst, abigale isnt picked often anyways and its easier to just set your nests about three screens away from your base and do just fine, the beard plus a stone can keep him just fine during winter and he can shave it during summer, not to mention all the silk can be made into the dapper hat to help other players raise sanity, or himself, as insanity can be good, it can also be annoying, you dont want to always be insane, the monsters are too endless, but there are ways to go quickly insane when you need to
Kayto also, as glommer does make spiders come out of their nests the spiders dont attack glommer, i will say chester is a problem though

Wes is better than willow? ignoring all of wes problems, he skimmed over willow's very solid qualities. she gains sanity in fire.(and the effects stats.)So if you place 4 fire pits around her,stand in a forest fire, or stand in a fire farm you can get MASSIVE sanity gains. meaning easy sanity, and management, to fairly easily combat making fires. Though in DST she loses heat when insane, which can be horrible in winter, it slightly helps in the summer time with overheating. and regardless, can be avoided easily in the first place.also her lighter in ROG is an infinite light/ sanity tool, and though isnt great at either, it's still an very reliable item early game. and in DST, the lighter though having limited durability. can be used to cook food on it. alongside an bear that can be used in luring evil mobs, or stalling shadow creatures. Willow, though definitely isn't the best, and to me, you have to be an advanced player to get massive use out of her, she certainly isn't the worst at least in my opinion.(wes was intentionally made to be the worst, or an "challenge" character")still a good video though
yeah, I dunno why he dislikes willow so much, she used to be my favourite character simply because i dont like dealing with sanity and low sanity is easy to solve with her.
Actually if your sanity drops bellow sixty willow sets things on fire at random. So literally your base will go up in smoke. I absolutely despise willow. She's only good if you can get late game with her, but with her lower sanity base of a 120, I found myself struggling like hell during the first stage of the game. And the lighter really isn't that great, sure it's an infinite light source, but it's a tiny little thing that barely lets you see anything. Sure she's an okay character, but her annoying fires tendency ruins it for me. And especially in the winter when you can't even leave your base and sanity is plummeting constantly, yeah you're not gonna have a base for very long.
AppleSaurus I see your point, and in some way I agree with you but I'm saying that the sanity issue is very easy to manage in general especially as willow,but this is partially because she's so hard to play and play her to her fullest power, so in my eyes Klein needs to buff her, specifically in. reign of giants
lol managing Willow's sanity is super easy. You should never be setting anything on fire unless you want to.
1. Set up base near green mushrooms (anywhere within a day's walk of them)
2. Collect grass and build straw roll
3. Make Jerky
4. Carry your lighter during the day for small sanity gain
5. Stand near your firepit at night for sanity gain
Boom. You don't need all of these, but if you did do all of them, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to ever accidentally set your base on fire. Deerclops showed up? Enrage him and lure him away from your base. You shouldn't fight giants near your base anyway because many of them can fuck it up.
In Winter, Willow is constantly GAINING sanity because you tend to have a roaring fire most of the time. Even at night, she's gaining sanity.
Well most of the time u will want to be insane to get nightmare fuel so when ur insane u will light things on fire and gain sanity. Pretty counter intuitive
Willow is one of the best characters.That's the reason she got nerfed after all. You never need to use a torch with her saving tons of materials in the process.Those extra materials proved to be lifesaving during some of my first winters. You say sanity is super easy to control yet you somehow find having to keep Willow's sanity over 60 the worst downside in the game? That makes no sense whatsoever.
No it does you just don't understand it. Sanity management isn't difficult whatsoever in that if you fall to 31 sanity nothing bad happens really so you can bounce between max and 31 sanity with absolutely no penalties (I am not counting shadow hands and beardling because they are stupidly easy to deal with). Once under 30 sanity all you have to do is eat a couple jerky, mushrooms or sleep or something. If you get attacked by terrorbeaks you just kill them as they are extremely easy to kite and your sanity goes up.
This all of course implies you aren't playing Willow who can and will light your base on fire if you are ever below 60 sanity. This means every time you open a chest or walk to use your crock pot below 60 sanity you are risking losing it. I have heard of a lot of "I keep Willow's sanity above 60 always. That is a lot of extra stuff and wasted time to worry about sanity where ANY other character it's completely a non issue. Her downside is she has to keep a careful watch on sanity or it can potentially ruin your base which by the way is basically the ONLY way to lose once you are competent what with how meat effigies and life saving amulets being easy to craft.
Also her lighter is terrible, it gives you a much smaller light radius than any other light source. If you don't have crazy amounts of sticks and grass by day 20 you need to play better. My base has at least 20-30 of each by that time and it's super easy to pick at night or when you are otherwise not busy. They never nerfed her because she was OP I have no idea what you are talking about.
I understand it mighty fine... and now you are just trying to defend the contradictions in your video with baloney. There is nothing extra to do or time wasted with Willow any more than the other characters and their massive downsides. In fact one could argue she wastes far less time as you don't need to go gathering materials for making torches. And you need a shit ton of torches in this game. Smaller light radius of her lighter is of little to no importance as you can light something else on fire or simply camp.
It is actually trivial to keep her sanity always at max by staying near fire, eating a sanity meal once in a while with the abundance of food around or using the garland when appropriate. Even if you somehow went low on sanity you just need to pay attention and stay away from your base and not burn it. Duh. Unless you have tunnel vision that is.
Also as i said it was in my earliest playthroughs that i saved a ton of materials using Willow's lighter (she is the 2nd to unlock after all) thus being able to create enough traps to sustain me during the winter. I had no idea about the severity of winters and how i could bring sticks and grass near my base then. Not everybody starts a pro like you.
For someone that has built his entire subscriber base on this game you should be aware of the huge nerf to Willow in dst. There is even a popular mod made in order to restore her back to how she was.
Dia Sonenclar I am aware of her changes in DST, it isn't a nerf. She was changed so her mechanics work well with the other characters much like Woody was. Besides the fact that this guide has nothing to do with Don't Starve Together so I don't know why you are even bringing it up the two are completely different stand alone games.
You inherently have to spend more time worrying about sanity because like I said, no other character really has problems being low on sanity, only her. Keeping her sanity above 60 isn't always possible when fighting bosses or exploring the ruins. I love it when people just say "Well just keep her sanity above 60" Produce a play through where you get through a year and casually never go below 60 sanity. It is a lot of work to keep your sanity high and with EVERY other character you literally do not need to. Just keep it above 30 and even below 30, just don't get killed by terrorbeaks, I have casually been below 30 sanity for multiple days in a row with no problems whatsoever. I never said I was a pro when I started nor did I say I was one now.
Smaller light radius means a lot in this game and you do not need many torches. It's practical to make a lantern in the first couple days and then you could pretty much never make a torch again (You still need one to light things on fire without a fire staff) Lightning things on fire certainly helps with the light radius problem but burns resources one way or another, I prefer to just use a lantern.

Consider saving a few twigs and some grass life saving than that's a problem and you can't go insane because she freezes which makes it impossible to farm shadow creatures and impossible to get beard hairs and you if you can't spare a few twigs and one grass on a torch then one word : lantern

Do you think Willow's lighter should also become a campfire when dropped? (larger light radius, can cook foods) That's what I think it should have. I also think you should be able to craft more of them.
I think Wolfgang's hunger multiplier should only happen past a number around 140.
That would be a bit overpowered. I just think it's light radius should be a bit bigger.
Kulthozuer I'm pretty sure it cooks stuff in DST. I don't really see how it would be overpowered. Late game you would most likely rely on crock pot foods and jerky more than anything else, and it's not like a campfire is extremely hard to make, so having a character that already has some pretty hefty disadvantages get the ability to have a portable, no-cost campfire would be nice.
It would make her OP in adventure mode, light's out and in basic mode it would make her way better during winter. I do agree she has one of the worst disadvantages in the game with starting random fires but free permanent campfires in a game that revolves around light, heat and cooking food is way overpowered.
+Kulthozuer What if it didn't change temperature? What if it used durability while on the ground and/or when cooking food? Also, I don't think her being OP in adventure mode is a bad thing. WX-78 will most likely remain supreme overload of anything adventure mode, so who cares?
I don't think its the end of the world but I think it's an unnecessary change to a character that is already sort of balanced. It would be difficult to make any of the character's more balanced without completely revamping what they do.

Most character guides are a little biased but I like this one because he explores pros *and* con's of everyone (except Wilson who doesn't really have a disadvantage in the first place) and say "I would *recommend* " or "I would not *recommend* " and gives his opinion but leaves room for others opinions. I like this

- great balance of health, sanity, and hunger
- infinite torch
- infinite sanity booster
- very few drawbacks
The only thing that sucks about her is when you drop in sanity, she will make a lot of little fires that could potentially burn up valuable items. Other than that, she's great for Reign of Giants.
The only game that I don't like Willow, is in shipwrecked. Her greatest advantage becomes a disadvantage and useless in shipwrecked.

But you are entitled to your own opinion. If you are going for a good end game or even early game character willow is definitely not either. Her only true benefit is fire immunity which every character can have with the Scalemail easily.
Wolfgang is great end game and can do basically the most damage (less than willow with a burning inventory but that's not even close to practical) But he has almost no early game benefits because his extra damage and speed cost a lot of extra food.
Also its worth noting if you'd read the description this isn't about end game but about surviving. Those two characters are objectively worse at surviving that say Wilson.
Kulthozuer Willow's lighter is extreamly useful. I hold it when ever i'm exploring and it's basicaly like having a garland. At night you can easily gain back sanity to get above 60 by holding the lighter and staying close to the fire. This is such a HUGE advantage and its really easy to survive with willow. Sure she isn't REALLY good late game but early game she is really useful and by late game if you can't keep you sanity above 60 than you're not a good player. That is just my opinion

My first Don't Starve experience:
I played as Willow and I survived the first 3 nights with no problem. Then on day 3 I realised there was no grass in my area and walked to a new one. I stumbled upon a graveyard where there was gold! I was very excited cause I heard someone saying you can make a science machine with gold. And then the sun began to set and I couldn't make a campfire. I spotted a grass patch on the map a while off and decided to do my backup plan. for light
I set all vegetation I found on fire.
and so I survived the night and made a science machine.

In my opinion wickerbottom it the best, I love her knows many things which degrades on usefulness overtime but her books... they are OVERPOWERED
You could have infinite blow darts by the first winter if you spam birds of the world and sleepy time stories then when spring hits use applied horticulture on reeds and if you can get a varg and farm teeth with on tentacles and there you get infinite blow darts and morsels and monster meat and gems and coal and maybe a krampus sack
Oh yeah I main wickerbottom and Wolfgang (used to play wigfrid but not being able to eat cactus and dragon fruits makes me bored)
Wickerbottom is my personal favorite. Early on it allows you to make a spade and a bag without finding gold so you can start out with a bunch of plants, which as to mentioned is very useful with her books.
Also late game sleepytime stories can do the same things as a panflute, but being renewable making every boss easy.
Not to mention how easy killing a ton of birds is with birds of the world.

+Moon wqlf Because he has nothing unique that elevates your playstyle. Spiders are poorer minions than all the other minions. Surviving on monster meat is actually a really poor way to survive, it takes more work and gives less hunger than making meatballs or bacon and eggs.
I will go over this more in my new character guide where I give all characters a more accurate score.

Willow is amazing she’s my fav character to play as she has a free light source if you almost die from night and her sanity goes up from fires which is really good to keep up sanity
I also want to hear this as don't starve together because it changes a couple things and may have change the scale that you rated them or they might have new benefits or disbenefit
I really think that some characters are intended for some specific way of playing, like as the game don't have configurable dificulty options, you can say that you set your dificulty level with the character choice (and the tweaks in WG of course) but primarily with the characters... for example a standar game would be with wilson, a very hard could be with wes or maxwell, a fighting game would be with wolfgang or wigfrid and so on and so forth... because besides of what character is "better" or "worse" I really think that they are just different and you are forced to play in some different ways, with different strategies based on what character you picked up.

My favourite is Wigfrid. I'm good with getting rabbits and Gobblers so it's not hard since she only eats meat. I also love the fact she comes with a helmet and a spear. Plus if they break you can just re-make it.
