You are adorable and very sweet! I really appreciate you taking the time to clear up the shortage issue. I also worked retail for years and that’s why I hated the holidays for so long. I saw the true colors of so many and it was sad. During a time when people are supposed to be extra nice and appreciative of each other, they would completely forget the meaning of the holidays. I support your comments about being nice to retail folk! ❤️

As someone who has worked in supply chain for the past 7 years, thank you for talking about this. I wish more people realized that things like this are concerning and the issues are spread across multiple industries. 📚
I read an article about this topic just last week and was so shocked to read that it's not only the paper, but also cardboard for hardbacks, glue and lots of other supplies that are needed for the production of a book. 📚 And apparently the problem will continue to exist well into the new year.
I can only imagine how hard this is for authors. So pre-orders do really seem like a great idea to support them and the industry.
I think one of the only upsides of this pandemic is the upward trend in the buying behavior towards books. Numbers seem to be up, which in itself is really positive. 🙂📚

Through work, I’ve seen this disruption really since the pandemic started. I purchase materials for the YA section of the library and I’ve seen so many dates pushed back, items take months and months to ship (even with some preorders) and many books consistently on back order. Manga has been the most affected because the popularity of manga has skyrocketed within the last year and a half and because of these shortages, publishing companies like Yen Press and Kondansha can’t keep up with the demand. It’s said but it will get better down the road.
It’s really cool how you made a video talking about the shortage. This is a great excuse to finally pre-order all the books I’ve been wanting to. 📚

It's interesting to hear some of the supply chain shortages that I hadn't known about. I know when I was working at B&N earlier this year, they were worried about the plastic bag shortage since many customers don't bring in their own bags. And appreciate you mentioning being nice to retail people, the holiday season can get really stressful when people don't remember to be empathetic. ❤️️📚
📚📚Oh wow! I actually did not realize there was a book shortage! 😬 I live and travel in an RV Fulltime, so I have had to purchase ebooks for the past couple of years. Which is a bummer because I do prefer a real book vs. an ebook. I hope things get better soon! Thanks for letting us know!

Another thing is a lot of people are starting to read more which is great... but it's annoying when you find the book you want being sold for an exponential amount compared to retail pricing.

This is new booktube content to me. Thank you for the info. We all know that if the demand is higher, the supply decreases. This is not new but it's the 1st time I heard about books. Honestly, I don't do pre-orders much since books are costly in my country. The only way I could help about the supply shortage is to buy 2nd hand or remaindered for old books (it's a minus for the author tho) and buy the brand new ones that I really, truly wanted 📖📚

As someone who works in supply chain this is not limited to books. The holidays are going to be rough.
Get your holiday presents shipped now. Even domestic shipments are backlogged (this includes UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.). So keep that in mind, be patient and be kind!
