A pen that seems elegance for me is the Faber Castell Ondoro in the Smoked Oak version. The barrel is from a beautiful wood with veins of changing browns. I think the contrast between features of this design is what makes this elegant: the raw-like wood against the sleek polished metal, the sharp hexagonal shape against the very-round ends and grip section. This pen is beautiful, the steel nib is perfect and as you mat infer- I like the brand a lot :P

Thank you David for the review and Faber Castell for the chance to win the pen. For me, elegance is the combination of shape and material and Tibaldi Impero is one of the elegance FP out there.

The pen is quite nice, extremely classy, and well designed. The attention to detail is spot on. I hope Graf von Faber Castel make a rose gold plated with black resin version of this pen. It would really pop alongside other pens with similar designs.

An elegant pen means it has a striking appearance upon first glance, a shimmering profile and writes as smooth as butter. I personally don’t own any but Visconti does well at providing pens with this description. Love the ink color. Reminds me of days on the beach.

To me, Elegance is proper attention to the proper details. It's never excessive. Quite vague but I guess the subjectivity of the thought is what allows different people to appreciate the subjective beauty in pens and even in people.
Love how the Guilloche has distinct elegant features and designs to accompany the experience of fine writing.

Very nice review. Made me revisit my original distaste for the prominent clip and flared cap. The color on this one is very pretty. I really find the Omas Ogiva Cocktail in Bloody Mary and Blue Angel very elegant. Its elongated dimensions and fluting take the classic cigar shape and makes it much more refined.

Hi David , great review as usual . When I think of elegance in a fountain pen , the Waterman L' Etalon from the 1990's comes to mind . The L' Etalon has many interesting design features which all come together in a very stylish pen ; interestingly it is also great to use .

Your reviews are always lovely. Succinct, yet thorough. What constitutes an elegant pen will vary from person to person and I don't think there's a right answer. But for me, it's a body that is a dark color, not too terribly wide or narrow, a simple filling mechanism, and a nib with some decorative flourish-ey embossing but not a smiley face (and I DO love my Kakunos but they aren't what I'd call elegant).

I always appreciate your take on pens. It gives me a good amount of perspective. Elegance is a tough thing to nail down. For me the writing experience is what matters most. So, I would say the most "elegant " pen I own so far is my Lamy Studio. Not fancy per se but my best writing pen so far.

There's something about the Lamy CP1 that really stands out to me, with its minuscule step, outstanding overall thinness and matte, barstock look when capped. Despite how compact it is, it really feels like Lamy sacrificed nothing and wound up with an extremely handsome little pen.

David, I was happy to see that you did a review on the GVFCG . The color is very eye catching and I was fascinated by your explanation of how they produce the barrel of the pen. You see, this is what defines elegance in a FP for me...the deliberate techniques in the artistry of the design. I mostly lean towards Japanese pens, but I am a fan of the GvFBG and feel a thrill when it comes in the rotation.

  • @iambic1496

I have seen displays of the ‘Graf’ pen before and was impressed by the tubular modern design. But when you mentioned the word ‘Guilloche,’ I was intrigued. I researched it. What I saw made a lasting impression. The Guilloche pattern on the ‘Graf’ pen revealed an exqusite understated repeating motif that had its roots in France during the 17th century, even earlier. The ‘Graf von Faber Castell Guilloche’ is an exquisite pen with elements of minimalism especially the cap, and the barrel displays a traditional design motif that blends well with the overall modern look. Incorporating a traditional motif but giving it a modern overall look is an achievement accomplished with great skill, I think. Kudos to Graf von Faber. Your writing sample depicts a writer that is crisp with a smooth flow of ink.

In my opinion, an elegant pen is one that attracts your attention without necessarily trying too hard. To that end, there are two very different pens that I find to be remarkably elegant - The Pelikan M1000 in Green stripes, and the Conid Bulkfiller kingsize streamline.
As always thank you for an excellent review and outstanding video quality!

Very nice review of a gorgeous pen! I am a bit weary of clunky cigar/torpedo shaped pens. My favorites are usually the more slender looking pens, Waterman's come to mind. This particular pen reminds me of the columns in classic architecture. The Visconti Van Gogh has also struck me as elegant. Thanks for the review. Robbin

Thanks for the great review. There are not that much videos on GvFC pens out there.
Regarding your comment topic: If you ask about elegance I'm instantly thinking about the Souveräb line by Pelikan. The classic green stripes with the gold trim just looks ... elegant.

  • @federicofigueroa538
    @federicofigueroa538 6 ปีที่แล้ว

The GvFC Intuition, the resin presentation in Terracota color is the most elegant pen I've seen, closely followed by the same pen in black resin, they're simply gorgeous with a bold statement that a pen can be different, and the master craftsmanship you can see in this Guilloche model...
I agree with you about metal grip sections, specially shiny metal grips... but this grip (used also by the GvFC Classic model) is pretty comfortable and allows for a great writing experience.

Fairly new to the world of fountain pens, but have always wanted one.. being an artist, I’ve always admired architectural motifs used in ancient times, the guilloche is a helix like pattern that I’ve had the pleasure to work with in cornices. One pen that is also from Graf von Faber Castell line i the Intuition, as the section is integrated into the barrel (in fact it is just one long barrel) I find it super comfortable to hold and it is less of a "finger magnet".

HELL yes. It's like the classier direct upgrade to the Faber-Castell Ambition!! I do love the Ambition quite a bit, and I know the company excels with their nibs. Suffice it to say that I've never been more excited about one of your giveaways :)
In terms of my collection, I haven't really branched out into higher-priced pens yet and so I would likely select my Italix Parson's Essential as my most elegant pen. It has a classic cigar shape but mixes it up with the Celtic design around the cap band -- and I love the depth of the lacquer. Thank you so much for putting this on!

My most elegant pens are probably my vintage Wahl-Elegance. When it comes to a modern elegant pen, I am a bit town between my Pelikan m605 Transparent White and the two pens I have from the Herbert Pen Company, especially the latest which I call “France” (a hexagonal Monument made with a material he poured with blue and red ribbons).
