    Ahh, the 80's ... when 65 episodes were still considered as one season.

    • @brokenphantom3g
      @brokenphantom3g 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      At the time, in order to qualify for syndication, you have to have at least 65 episodes for most TV shows, so shows that weren't commissioned by a singular network, but rather made and shopped around to multiple smaller TV stations usually had at least 65 episodes. It's why Robotech was made by Frankensteinin' together 3 different shows to meet the 65 episode minimum.

    • @ds7505
      @ds7505 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@brokenphantom3g That's pretty cool; I didn't know that. The 80's were so much better, seeing as how 10 episodes seems to be the "norm" for a lot of shows nowadays. Guess it becomes a quality vs quantity type of argument.

      The shows that had 65 episodes in one season, such as Brave Star ran 5 days a week as after school programming on local TV Stations. So 65 episodes would only be 13 weeks worth of shows.

      Iirc Tex Hex was created originally as a ghost for the real Ghostbusters but they thought the character was too good for just one episode so they built the series of bravestarr around him.

      DinoEire84: To be honest, I have mixed feelings for a live action BraveStarr movie. On one hand, I think BraveStarr deserves much, MUCH more attention seeing it's one the most underrated cartoons of the 80's if not all time. But on the other hand, I don't want another beloved 80's cartoon to be turned into a CGI-fest by Michael Bay.

    SilverHawks (1986), The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers (1986), Defenders of the Earth (1986) and C.O.P.S. (1988) were also single season cartoon shows with a 65 episode library.

    • @stevelucas9087
      @stevelucas9087 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrNegron Back then during the 80s, cartoons use to come on seven days a week. On the local tv stations, cartoons would air Monday-Friday morning and afternoon and on Sunday morning, while the big three networks (ABC, NBC, and CBS) had their Saturday morning line-ups. The cartoons that aired during the weekdays would usually get a 65 episode season, for the first full year (with each episode airing every three months during in that time period). If the show was a success, more episodes would be ordered the following season. If it's ratings were only okay, then they'd just rerun the same episodes again the following year until the cartoon eventually got pulled which would probably at the end of that twelve month period, or the year after that. And if the ratings were poor and the show didn't really find a strong enough fanbase then it would get cancelled at the end of it's first year, if not sooner.

    Although shows like Bravestarr were technically a single season, they ran 65 episodes or the equivalent of 5 seasons for other shows. 65 episodes was the standard limit for most cartoons which is why many didn't run longer. And most of these cartoons were rerun for many years. Most of these shows were made to sell toys, which only needed a single season of shows. The success of the toy line often affected the length of the cartoon.

Best thing too is even if it was only 13 episodes Mighty Orbots did give us a finale not leaving anything open like so many other cartoons have with their abrupt cancellations. Sucks hearing they got sued over a likeness of a toy that they never used for Gobots. Oh well am just ecstatic Orbots got the dvd release a few months ago.

    I believe that there are some '90s cartoons that deserve a reboot. Two that come to mind are C.O.P.S. and the Toxic Crusaders. Berserko and Buttons McBoomBoom were my favorite Crooks along with Big Boss; and I loved the symmetry on the T.C.'s between Bonehead and Psycho, and the show's willingness to occasionally break down the fourth wall every here and there.
    But one cartoon from the '80s that doesn't need to come back is Inhumanoids: I could never get my head around the goings-on around the Earth's core. It could have been the implausible storylines of the show.
    Those are my thoughts on those great '80s and '90s cartoons. Can't stop at just one decade.
