The X27 lives up to its claims in my experience. My recommendation is ignore Fiskars sizing recommendation and go for the X27, use White Ox gloves to take out the boing from overstrike, and dial in your roundhouse technique. A joy to use, all day, any day.
I agree! According to their recommendations, X27 is way too big for me, but like you said… If you dial in your technique, it can be a great axe for the majority of people
I’m pretty happy with it so far. Unfortunately it’s got a few nicks on it and is a little dull, but I’m hoping after I sharpen it it’s back to good as new
I’m glad I bought the X25 instead of the X27. I’m also 5’8” and the X27 looks a bit awkward for you. The X25 is absolutely a perfect fit for me at my height.
It’s definitely a long axe. I thought the extra length helped give extra impact and splitting power, but I’ve never even held the X25. I just bought this one based off reviews.
Unfortunately I already have a couple nicks in the blade from it sliding off and missing the round, then going into the ground. So thanks for the tip. Now if I have to buy a new one or see one and a local store I’d definitely like to check the X25 out.
I got a few nicks in mine from hitting the ground as well. It happens I guess. Got them out almost instantly with a worksharp knife and tool sharpener.
Great vid. Been using traditional single blade axe for years on everything from pine cedar and the tough stuff pinion wood. Bought the fiskars maul. Much better if you know how to use an axe. Let the blade do the work. Im an off grider. So chopping woods is not some dumdass luxury for ambience. Its how I stay warm!
Thanks man, I appreciate that! And wow, that’s pretty awesome to be an off gridder! I’d love to be more remote. I’m sure you get pretty good at chopping wood since it’s for survival. I’m getting a woodstove, but I still have the electric back up heat. Either way I plan to do a lot of splitting for heat as well electric and propane is getting way too expensive
Unfortunately yes. Fiskars warranty policy has the 2 statements below. Both of them I’m told would include any signs of wear on the back flat part of the axe that would indicate or show that it was used as a hammer (for any purpose) would fall under these categories and void the warranty because that back flat part of the axhead is not intended for that according to fiskars…
Idk. It seems stupid to me, but I know of someone who was denied being covered by their warranty because their back edge was pretty beat up with a lot of indents in the metal from hitting it with a sledge hammer to help get it through if it was stuck or needed some extra power.
I cut 8inch rounds post oak an pecan an I split 30 or as many as I can on the weekends my x27 is honestly best bang fa buck I got ah few more expensive axes but the fiskers I keep in my truck

Best axe ever, great review!!!
I agree, thanks!!!
Nice vid. I just got one myself to split some wood for my new wood stove. Just used it for the first time the other day.
Thanks man!

Fiskars X27 is the best!
Yeah man, I agree!!!

Good video.
Thanks!
I’m sold.
Yeah, I’m still happy with it
How do you mean warranty is void if you use the back as a hammer? As in block busting, hitting nails etc
- Warranty does not apply when products are used to other purposes than that they’re originally intended for
- Warranty excludes damage caused to the product resulting from use which is not intended for the product or abuse of the product
@@BrandonStunts if the back edge IS a hammer, why can’t you use it then?
Idk. It seems stupid to me, but I know of someone who was denied being covered by their warranty because their back edge was pretty beat up with a lot of indents in the metal from hitting it with a sledge hammer to help get it through if it was stuck or needed some extra power.

Nice! I always wanted to get a nicer more expensive axe, but I'm still pretty happy with this one. and I agree definitely the best bang for your buck
Great video, but you're sliding your hand down the handle too soon, causing you to lose a lot of speed and keep your heels down.
Thank you! That’s a good observation and I appreciate the tip! I’ll definitely give it a try next time I’m splitting. Thanks again for the advice!
I think I know what I need to get for the perfect zombie killing weapon
Haha. YES!!!! That’s awesome! You’d definitely do some damage with that axe
try it without a setting on chopping block... you will get harder strikes and better results
I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip!
Rip the Blade
I know which axe Im buying now
Nice lol. I’m enjoying it so far good luck with it
Who tought you to swing like that😂?
First time using an axe lol. Watched a few TH-cam videos and went for it. I only used it a handful of times since, so I’m not much better now.
