I still like Eagle Rare more... I like the proof of Early Times but a little bit too sweet compared to Eagle Rare to me. I don't like my Bourbon to be too sweet. I like Early Times... But I like Eagle Rare a bit more... Especially single barrels of ER
Eagle Rare suffers from the single barrel problem, you can get a real hitter or something that's only decent. For the old price, low $30s here, it was always a good pickup.
Exactly. These aren't quite as good as a double blind (they know what's in the bracket) but they did a good job of not just trying to identify the bottle and then pick the one they think should be better based on outside influence.
People overrate Eagle Rare, Weller, and all the allocated bottles simply because their brain tells them that it has to be good because it is rare (and marked up in secondary). Simple truth is that allocation does not equate to superior bourbon. Not saying Eagle Rare is bad... for MSRP it's stellar. I'm just saying rarity does not equate to superiority. Early Times BIB is harder to find in my area but not as chase.
Love ET BiB beating Eagle Rare! Eagle Rare was one of the first "good" bourbons that started me down my path way back when you could find it everywhere for MSRP. Now I rarely drink it because who knows when I'll find another bottle or what I'll have to pay for it. ET BiB remains one of the most outstanding values in bourbon and I can always find it. Perfect cocktail bourbon but I can drink it neat any day.
Good job 1792 FP 😁. Am a fan of the Woodford DO, but gotta cheer on my pic in the bracket (which is a great bourbon)! Not really surprised with the match up, and outcome, between Eagle Rare and ETBIB. I certainly could see that one going either way. Nice vid and looking forward to more!
I use Early Times BIB as a primer bourbon. I have 6 bottles of it with the black screw caps and 2 with the blue screw caps. Love them both, but prefer the black cap bottles. There is a store in Florence, KY that still has cases of the ET BIB with the black caps. Every business trip to KY, I stop in to pick up some bottles to bunker for upcoming retirement. 🥃

Is the Early Times BiB you're pouring from an old black cap bottle from Brown Forman, or a new metal cap bottle from Sazerac? I'm not sure it matters, and for me it definitely doesn't since they don't distribute it to my area, but I know some people insist that they taste different.
Both are great and at the MSRP price they are fantastic! Throw in Ol Grandad 114 Nd Grandaddy BIB and that my friends is a killer row! Many high priced stuff can only wish they Tasted as good! 🤠🥃

I like ET BiB more than some bottles I've paid three times the price for. I get an tropical type note on the bottle I have atm.

1792 beating Woodford double oaked was a bigger surprise than the ER getting taken down.

Woodford Double Oaked would be fine at $25 but it's often twice that amount and not at all worth that.
