- Since Red Velvet has a comeback in March, I thought now would be the perfect time for me to discover and learn about them! I know of them of course but do I know their past old MVs? No? And if I could go back in time, I would force myself to sit in front of computer to watch and listen to their entire discography especially BAD BOY.

I would say and with all the confidence in the world, Automatic is my fave K-pop song… I love the smooth 90’s vocals… for velvet I would recommend listening to their velvet album (The perfect Velvet Bad boy is the repackage so it added extra songs to the album)… the Irene and Seulgi sub unit is AMAZING as well, it’s mostly velvet since it fits Irene’s husky voice and Seulgi’s versatility when it comes to her range.

That subunit doesn't really push them vocally. It's all within their range and seulgi has been doing the same concept like forever. That album is basically queerbait because NOBODY i mean none of their fans actually cared about their music when it was 1st announced. They never even talked about their music when the teasers dropped. All they cared is about the queerbaiting which is so disappointing.

RED VELVET MVS EXPLAINED : red velvet’s entire universe is actually composed up of stories made up within a 10 year old girl’s imagination.. all featuring her 5 favorite dolls. This little girl's name is possible 'Reve' as what might everyone thinks. BUT bc she also wants to be part of their adventure, she chose one amongst them and named her "Irene". Everytime Reve warps her little toys dream and makes it their reality, the girls finally noticed it in Psycho MV
I believe this is why they named it as The ReVe Festival: Finale. Because her dolls found out the truth in the end, that's why they weren't there when Irene came back.
So in conclusion every concept is part of that little girl imagination and it might affected by her real life problems so then she puts on the box and let her imagination take her away from her problems.
Which also explains why in the red concepts it feel weird and lil but childlike bcz it’s part of that girl imagination
Aside from makeup, Wendy also had some cosmetic surgery done due to the December 2019 incident during the recording of SBS Gayo Daejeon (year end show), where she was instructed to climb up onto the platform for rehearsal, but the stairs weren't in place, so she ended up falling down the height of 2.5-3 meters, which resulted in a broken wrist, pelvis and cheekbone. Queendom was her first Red Velvet comeback after a year of recovery. That's also why she looks slightly different in Queendom and Step Back.
Actually people still generalizing the meaning of Red and Velvet concept. Yes what they described is not wrong but moreover Red means romantic, like Taylor’s lyrics Loving him is Red. You can feel the passion, energy, bright, colorful, cheerful, confidence due to passionate bright red love. Velvet is where their dark side was shown, yes sexy, yes bad ass but moreover it’s about maturity where you can say mature love is more calmer than red passionate love.

Their title tracks are mostly experimental I'd say in terms of sound. If you start digging into their bsides you will be so much captivated. They are known as bside queens. So much of their bside can actually pass as title track. And of course, vocals are well served. They eat CDs for dinner. 😁

Peek-a-boo is based on serial killer who is very popular in South Korea back in the days. People fear him a lot during its days. For others title track it’s a different story for each one. RV didn’t stay in one lane. Most of their title track concepts are base on what is happening in society. Queendom represents feminism. I forget about other title tracks so if you know you can reply down here.

Also, the Bad Boy music video has very gay undertones. If you notice there isn't any men in the video. Even the mannequins are female. The book has French on the cover that translate to "This is not a lip". Basically it means that even thought the image on the book looks like lips, it can also be anything really. And how the lips are turned sideway refers to the female body part. And if you notice at the end Yeri and Seulgi are wearing shirts with meow and cherry, both words used in urban slang to refer to parts of the female body.

Really Bad Boy isn't really a velvet concept, it fits under their mixed red and velvet concept. If you want a really good velvet concept, Be Natural (2014) is iconic. It is also pre-Yeri.

I feel like -visually/aesthetically- this was Wendy's era. She gave you 50's/60's inspired looks with a 70's twist on it. That club scene specifically with the red lighting and smokey eye highlighted her beauty. It was with this comeback that I saw her versatility and fell in love (at that point her voice already drew me to her so it was pretty easy lol, I def think her vocals fit best with rnb/jazz pieces especially stuff that follow alt pop ballads -stuff from the 90's early 00's comes to mind.

you know what, I'm gonna talk about it because I feel like she's hardly complimented for it: she not only has clean lines and transitions but she's naturally sharp and emphatic with her movement, anytime I look I always notice that they put her on the sidlines with yeri for dance sections when she's honestly better than joy and yeri (from a technical and performative perspective). She knows how to get facials down to, and I feel like a lot of her understanding of dance and movement is linked back to the human voice and how she effortlessly explores it. I know that I experience most things as movement, mainly due to my dance background but also the way I learn information.

There were 4 members but one of them left the group on december 2020 [Jesy Nelson, whole fandom hates her now lmao]. They are preparing for their "Confetti" tour currently and will go to hiatus after that. They are really talented, you have to check their mvs, LIVE VOCALS and performances! "red" songs aren't always light, "velvet" songs aren't always dark. Only half of your selections were actually velvet, Peek-a-boo & RBB are generally considered "red". ANY red Velvet song can possibly have weird/supernatural/horror aspects to it; it is a particular hallmark of RV to include those themes in otherwise "light" and peppy sounding songs. Only 25% of RV releases are truly "velvet", a better indicator is the tempo/energy of the song. Velvet is downtempo/chill (but often no less intense!) and includes "Be Natural" (SES cover), "One of These Nights" (addressing Sewol ferry disaster), "Milkshake" and "Time Slip" (b-sides with MV), Seulgi & Irene's "Monster" ("Naughty" is red), and Seulgi's "28 Reasons". "Psycho" is the true rarity, that balances red and velvet concepts.

You might be on to something. Maybe both concepts represent themselves as the artist and as the person. Red is more idol/ fun/ charismatic side to the girls but Velvet might be more edgy/ dgaf attitude/ bad bitch side to them and they are trying to find ways to break these barriers from their two images.

Automatic was release at 2015 shortly before Icecream Cake. Almost everyone liked Ice Cream Cake much more and considered Automatic more bland. Unfortunately, by 2015, other bops were released as well and Automatic went underrated: Bae Bae (Big Bang), Call Me Baby & Love Me Right (EXO), I Need U & Dope (BTS), Shake It (Sistar), I (Taeyeon), Dumb Dumb (by the same Red Velvet), etc.
