Wow. That’s all new to me.
Thank you for your comment. You will see the bags in stores with all kinds of food in them. Tuna comes to mind in pouches. Those are the same bags only printed.
Great info. I just ordered a chamber vacuum sealer. Did you can bone-in?
Congrats on your chamber sealer! I have done bone in canning. I prefer not to can with the bone in. My results without the bone were better. Also these bags are not huge so any weight from a bone means less meat in the bag.
Can you use a flat iron to seal it
Some heavy sealers can seal the bag. However if the air has not been removed when they go in the canner they often break open under pressure. You could try with water bath products such as fruit.
What's the cost of the bags?
The bag I was using was 8 oz. I bought the 125 count for $34.94 that is about .34 cents each. I spend way more than that on good lids for 125 jars.
I bought them on the Vacupack.com web site. I have seen them on eBay too same company.
Very helpful video. I'm an avid vacuum sealer who has pondered retort canning to make my own MREs. This video was loaded with clear and concise information. Thank you
You are so welcome! If you have more question I found VacUpack to be very helpful. Their number is 800-227-3769.
