I think where this discussion goes off the rails is the assumption that the good news or 'evangelium,' or 'injeel,' is some specific text with a bunch of sayings and rules for living or something. That's not what it is. The good news is nothing more than Christ crucified and risen again. That would be true whether or not the story had ever been written down.
