The (open source) softwares i can recommend are Veracrypt to encrypt your files, uBlock Origin to make your browser faster and more secure, safing portmaster to monitor and control what apps can and can't do with the internet and then there is SELinux or AppArmor
If you think installing a simple addon/extension like ublock will make your browser more secure, you're dillusional. Besides, unless you know how to set up custom filters, ublock is an adblocker at best. Security doesn't work that way. You need to understand the kinds of fingerprinting, miti telemetry etc...If you want more security on, say, firefox, I'd suggest you run it with an arkenfox user.js and and keep certain sites separated by running them in ssb's.

Besides, distros like Ubuntu, Mint and Zorin are super easy to use. I still run a Mint ISO in VMware on my windows 11 quite often just because.
