Funny thing, I was listening to "Life Won't Wait" earlier, then I decided to look up some Tim and heard "My Bucket's Got A Hole". I thought the EXACT same thing, you won't hear the heart and soul in ANY OTHER punk rock singer with vocals and words. You can actually hear the pain in his vocals. Although now he looks more early 70's Jim Morrison than Bob Dylan, but I totally get it. A TRUE punk rocker. Rancid and Tim do what they want, WHEN they want to do it.
Well, it's hard these days to be totally genuine, but Tim is still special. His ska ans reggae stuff is powerful, and Rancid still pulls out good, if not great songs (but uneven albums).
He's such a good song writer, that his ridiculous vocal style is accepted and even lauded. It's somewhat like several other artists including Johnny Cash and every rap "singer" that I'm aware of.

I love tim, he's a great song writer and musician, but he's not good at singing or guitar. Singing out of tune and playing basic chords is something anyone can do after a few months of learning guitar. But they will never be Tim Armstrong
