- Sega Genesis Series 1 Capacitor and Voltage Regulator Replacement Tips and Tricks
This is the best way I've found on the "somewhat" cheap. I do not recommend using the cheapest soldering iron/station, I would invest at least $50 on that tool. I also forgot to mention that the specialized desoldering sucker and/or tweezers often run north of $180. I also use a head-band 1.5X magnifier and LED to aid in vision for this job (about $25 from amazon)
I bought my cap replace kit and voltage regulators (upgraded 2A ones) from www.console5.com
You can find the soldering iron tips I show/mention in the video from amazon as well as much of the other tools/supplies.

Great tutorial, thanks!
Watching this I don`t know whether I want to fix things or play the thing now hahaha.
So much great information here, finding a decent sega MD was hard enough, breaking one with lack of experience in this field :(
I think The best bet is to find some one local or in UK or US that can do it for me.
First time using a soldering iron = not good to do this job. Get a good soldering station, quality solder and solder tools and practice on old broken tube TVs (of course follow ALL CRT voltage cautions/dangers) first. Good luck, and thanks for the comment.
The easiest way to clear a through hole of solder is to have a good solder sucker. The ones with the plastic tips are horrible. I recommend the silver Japanese one with the silicone tip. It clears through holes no problem
Thanks, just ordered one.
@@motleypixel you're welcome. I hope it works as well for you as it has for me.
