I am shocked!! I just came back from the $$$ leather shoe maker in town, in hopes that he could repair my expensive Merrell boot zipper. "Oh no, can't fix that" was his reply. Just short of throwing the boots out, I took one more try with TH-cam. You were the first video I tried. Seemed too simple a fix, but I tried. First try--FIRST TRY- and FIXED!! I was stunned! I can't expressed how thankful I am to you for your expert advice . You are a true craftsman.

The zip on my favorite fleece jacket was sliding but not closing. Reluctantly facing up to the prospect of having to replace the slider, I arrived here from the Sailright page on choosing the correct replacement. Before going to the hassle of ordering a new slider I followed your instructions from 2:50. It worked! I'm guessing that thousands of zip/unzip cycles, tugging slightly outwards on the pull tab each time, had caused the top and bottom of the slider to open up a bit. Thank you very much for demonstrating the simple DIY fix: gently hammer it closed again. Brilliant!

This really worked for my wife's boots. Same with plastic zipper rails. Did same technique you made, luckiiy I had a small vise to mount the shoe to lay it as platform to counter the hammer tap. Few mild taps on the pliers and presto it's fix! Glad I had a chance to see your video. Thank you very much. Told my wife how important is TH-cam and Google for me on learning many things.

Hmm. Ive not tools for my slider so off to repairman who earns his pay for my boot zipper. Zipper teeth are plastic..slider toggle is metal and wore off. Boots handle lots of stress. Toggle is maybe cheap but boots have great sole wear..almost new. Thanks for the shop lesson.

Love that you left in real life struggles of things that can happen as you do this. I only wish there was more explaining of what you are doing with the plyers and zipper head without the shoe. Were you prying it open, and then later once on the zipper, closing it back?

Is this trick still possible with the same zipper slide if the slide is separated from the zipper on one side because of a loose zipper tooth?

I tried putting on my slider just like you did and crimped it down for it to slide and it slides fine but does not zip. The zipper stays unzipped. Is there a solution for this?

Man; I’m looking on here to see if I’m doing it right. I cut the bottom threads, pull the zipper bottom out, replace the puller and put the new one on and repair the bottom.
I’m new at this work but it seems so far my quality is noticeably better than the makers of these videos; which is fine with me.
I charge according to the quality and complexity of the boot. Not the length of the zipper.
I don’t down grade the quality because the client don’t care; I care. People will bad mouth anything, let them bad mouth my fair rates; not piss poor workmanship.

I agree and the title is misleading, it should say the cheapest way to change a puller which actually works very well since i do this for 28 years and had no complain. Can I see your work?
