- My first ever restoration was a Berlin reed organ, and there were some things that I did back then that I would not do today. One of these things was the materials that I used for the Sub Bass... yes, it worked, but it was noisy and not 100% reliable.
This video is an overview of changing the pallets for a Sub Bass from this 1897 Berlin reed organ.
Fascinating to witness your thorough restoration technique. And to hear this majestic instrument as well. Thanking God for his great gifts (all the was back to creation in Gen 1. (Music of the spheres not mentioned !!!) Thanks for allowing me to visit over the years.
Wonderful work. May you get many years of music from it.
Very helpful, Rodney. Many Thanks!!! 😀😀😀
Very well done and I am sure you will enjoy the results. I miss doing that type of work but my time doing restauration is over. I wish I could give all the stuff that we accumulated over the years to someone who woudl do this type of work but I have not found one yet. Thank you for the demonstration and thank you for the music.
Would love to see a video on replacing the bellows and how you do it.
I do have this hidden video of rebuilding exhausters if that is of any interest... th-cam.com/video/znMhNqHrD2c/w-d-xo.html
Yes, please Rodney! The information would be useful for me.
Where do you get your sheet music? I'm having trouble finding music for my reed organ.
Hi Rotny gibste ein Kommentar über Harmonium!"Ist sehr interessant.Machste sehr gut.Lg Monika aus Dessau.
Hi, I’ve been enjoying your videos as I’m researching sub bass reed organs. Do you have any suggestion on where I might be able to acquire a sub bass reed block for a musical I’m hoping to build (a droning, single-note sub bass instrument for Indian classical music)?
What is the song you used and is there a video of you playing it? I love the bass

Rodney, would pouch leather be a suitable substitute for both the valve pallet faces and for hinge material ?
It would work, but I would be worried that it would be too thin and it would have the same issue that I had with the thinner leather that I used to begin with, where it can fold over. The other thing to consider for thickness is that the felt and leather thickness needs to be just right, so that the pallet will lay flat in conjunction with the hinge - if it is too thick or thin, it will not lay level and cause ciphering. I should have included that in the video....
The hinge should be cloth in my opinion because that is what was there originally, but leather would probably work.
@@ReedOrgans Ešte raz ďakujem !
What do you use as hinge cloth?
Please consider not using fast forward next time, we actually want to watch in real time! Would love more repair videos. No, you wouldn't have to talk the whole time, many TH-cam channels just feature the sound of the work.
I had tried that initially, but the video ended up being longer than an entire extended version of the "Lord of the Rings", although much less exciting :)
