    Great video as always! Man all the dreams I had of owning the Spectrum 48 as a child here in Italy. But I had already bought a C64 and couldn't afford both. So it remained a dream I grew up with. Games from Ultimate Play the Game were my favorite reason for wanting to own this machine: I'm talking about Knight Lore (which revolutionized gaming at the time with its isometric view), Gunfright, Batman, etc. Owning on of these machine (C64/Spectrum) for a child at the time was nothing like it is today: it was the eve of home computers, and you had a whole new world of (gaming) possibilities and experiences to enjoy. Games and home computers were a total novelty then. Now the excitement is lost for the new generations: in that respect, we have been lucky.

    • @Nostalgianerd
      @Nostalgianerd  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tonio Miklo You're right. Things like waiting for the games to load for ten minutes, just added to more excitement. Good times, good times indeed. Knight Lore was fantastic. I'm gonna cover Get Dexter for the Amstrad CPC, as that was a thing of pure beauty.

    I was going to do a look-at Input magazine. So much fun to read through these nowadays!
    Great stuff, I'm appreciating the speccy (being a commodore man, well boy back then) and what it achieved as well as even somewhat jealous of some really good spectrum-only releases!
    Thanks for this!

    ZX Specrum had a reset button and standard video signal output over expansion card connector. I had one modified joystick card, hommade inserted a video output, and reset button. both directly connected to expansion slot pins.

    The genius part of the basic where the streams ... you can create your own subroutine in assembler , wo gets the parameter via reg [A]. So i have dad writen an soft RS232 output via Speakeroutport ( yeah 300baud !! ) and connectet an PC via terminalprogramm and send all screencommands to print them at the PC.

    I've still got my 1'st speccy from late 1982. though no tv modulator..(I think I took that out since it wasn't needed for the composite video monitor I had back then) also two zx micro drives with around 20 cartridges, which also works on the ICL-OPD(one per desk) that used QL tech, not to mention the disciple interface that allows two pc stiffy drives or even an older floppy drive....all in working condition! I've created some space in my studio displaying these relics proudly, after all that'what started my life in IT.....

  • @nuardanuarda9030

    The spectrum was a great little computer. Although my experiences with it were marred by the fact Sinclair lied about the time it took to deliver. They took orders for it when none were in stock! But I enjoyed my time with the Specky! It gave me an introduction to computers but I soon went on to be the proud owner of a BBC B puter! I still have my Specky and Beeb to this day! (amongst other 8-but home puters of the early 80's!) Don't agree with you about the Beeb not having a market for games - it did and there were 1000's.

    • @Nostalgianerd
      @Nostalgianerd  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nuarda Nuarda Sure the Beeb did have a market for games, but no where near what Sinclair had. Acorn tried to break fully into the market with the Electron, but sadly that fell on it's arse... ironically a supply issue, same as Sinclair faced on the Speccy launch. But fortunately the Spectrum had the good fortune of being early to market... The Electron did not.

    Nostalgia isn't what it used to be!! I started with the "Speccy" and then graduated to the "Amiga"!! I only later acquired a "Brother" printer! - but the wonder of colour, creation of beautiful fractals, using my birthday date & those of friends to produce magic islands with mountains, forests & lakes opened a fascinating world of wonders for me!! Now I have a laptop, tablet & the Internet, but I'll never forget those early days of wonder & excitement!!To create wonderful images of mysterious Islands, using nothing more than a few numbers even at random- WOW!!! It was mind-blowingly unbelievable and SO exciting!!
