    That's a great tool I use to use one doing engineering, it had both Imperial and Metric, Imperial on the front and on the back Metric, it had a center wheel one side had an Imperial wheel and on the other side was the metric wheel, unfortunately with my moves throughout the years I lost the calculator, Thanks to Ken I can make one, Thank you Ken, 👍

      I like your idea Alan with a metric on one side and imperial on the other. I may have to modify my pattern and update the show afterward. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave your comment. I truly appreciate it.

    Hi Ken, when you had this calculator on your show a while back I was heading to Lee Valley the next day. While walking through the show room I was lucky enough to find this calculator in their discontinued mark down bin. I couldn't grab it fast enough and it was marked down to just a couple of dollars. It's come in handy a few times!
    Thanks again for taking the time to help out your loyal followers with shows like this one. Take care.

      I'm glad that you were able to get yourself one Earl. I truly do love mine and I was honestly disappointed when the viewers weren't able to get their own. I'm glad that there have been so many positive responses to this show and requests for the pdf file. I'm glad that I could help everyone get their own fraction calculator. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to leave your comment.

    For someone like me with Dyscalculica this is a high priority project, 35 years in the trades and I've got by using my tape ruler pinching at my starting fraction and counting with my pencil, quite embarrassing at times, unless you have this problem you will never understand, it's not a matter of practice, you'd think 23 years a carpenter and 12 an electrician I could finally get the hang of it, wish I'd known about this tool 35 years ago, as for a handle, I don't mind it being thick I'll use a couple tiny furniture hinges and a strip of hardboard on the back. Thanks for sharing👍

    Great Project Kenny!!!! After your video which you used this fraction calculator I looked arduously for the wheel on the web. I had to have one! Just as you have indicated, it's no longer available anywhere. I was disappointed as I really wanted one. I'm so glad you took the time to design this and share it with us! You "Da Man"! Gonna send you an email now to get the pattern. Thanks again Kenny!!!

    Great tool for those of us who can’t function in a fractional world. Thank you for the template. I’m going to try adding a small palm sized piece of round dowel under the calculator. Possibly exchanging the pin for a bolt through the calculator & nutset in the dowel.

    Kenny, wow how neat. I have been envious of that “fraction calculator “ ever since I saw it. I will be requesting the pattern. I was wondering if a light coat of spray lacquer would make it hold up better or might it ruin the printing? Thanks for all your hard work setting this up.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if it would ruin the printing or not Paul but a circle of plexiglass would certainly protect it a little better. Thanks for the kind words on the show and the project. I've sent the pattern to your email. Good luck with your build.

    wow that is a really useful gadget. I'm going to make one for myself too.
    I mix imperial and decimal systems in every project.
    I like using inches, and all my tools are imported from the USA (DeWalt). My routers use 1/2 and 1/4 shanks etc. I use 1+2+3 inches machinist blocks for nearly everything.
    however, because I'm a European now living on the equator, I like to use millimeters for the precision parts.
    it may sound funny, but I would cut a sliding dovetail (on the router table) using 1.5 inch bit, and make it 1/4 inch deep, so that the narrower part of the dovetail becomes: 1 3/8 inch wide (14 degree tangent gives us 1:4 ratio between sides, so that angle is far from accidental), which allows me to use my 1 3/8 inch bottom cleaning bit to cut the groove for the dovetail bit.
    and then, for the sliding dovetail 1.5 inch wide and 1/4 inch deep, I would add 4 mm shoulder above that dovetail :)
    why 4mm and not 1/4 inch deep shoulder? because 1/4 inch is too deep for the shoulder in my world.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone has their own method of doing things and as long as it works for you, that is what counts. Here in Canada we are a metric society but I was trained in the trades in imperial so it has just stuck with me and that is what I am used to working with. Good luck with your fraction calculator build and thanks for tuning in to the show.

    • @TigerCarpenter
      @TigerCarpenter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@acutabove_woodworkings oh I didn't know you were in Canada. I watch few more Canadian woodworking channels, and they always talk in imperial, so I assumed Canada was purely imperial. Rob Cosman for instance acts as if he never heard of metric system.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not us "stubbornly" sticking to anything Julien. I was trained on the imperial system and that training has stuck with me. Unfortunately though, even if we wanted to go metric, the cost would be astronomical. Most of the manufacturers, even here in Canada (where we are primarily the metric system) continue to manufacture their tools using the imperial system. I can count on one hand how many metric tools are in my shop and to replace all the equipment with metric would be expensive. Thanks for tuning in .
