      Brenton did a swim analysis. His fitness is there but technically not there yet. I’m no coach and see mistakes he’s making.

    Lionel looks verrrrrry lean / leaner than years prior for the pre-season. Would love to hear more about what he's doing on the nutrition program. On swim, I'd love to see more of the stroke analysis, similar to how he's talked about breaking down aero on bike. Stroke still looks like he's muscling it a bit and not enough reach/glide out front, but that's unsolicited 2 cents

    • @davisbest
      @davisbest 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He did say in another video that he stopped eating "bad." At the level he is, if he dropped 20% intake of fats from fast food, that'd probably do it, but hey just a guess.

    I swam in college now coach triathletes and masters swimmers. One thing I notice is a lack of rotation which cause your left arm to swing across very straight. This causes the body to wiggle and lose energy out of the sides vs propulsion forward. Additionally, I’m not sure how you feel, but you look tense/a bit thrashy which can create lactate quickly as you speed up

    • @gtkona1608

      He has always looked like that.

    • @JohnDoe-sw9zq
      @JohnDoe-sw9zq 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      His left arm swings more wide than his right for sure. Lots more tension and less recovery in his stroke.

    Technique. Technique. Technique. Drill work. Skulling. Working on your catch. Looking @4:22 you can see how much you are slipping in the water. You can do it.

      I would add that he should be doing the other strokes as well to improve his feel for the water. Not just pounding front crawl but adding in the other three strokes. This strengthens other muscle groups, and adds variety to the training as well so it’s not so boring. Lucy Charles Barclay does a lot of butterfly in her swim sets

    • @anthonyjohnson6973
      @anthonyjohnson6973 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree with this. Compared to the next lane he looks snaky, muscling the water and just not smooth. A lot of gains to be had

    Lionel, don’t take it offensive, but at this point in order to get faster you need to not only do a good swim workouts but also lots of stretching and technique drills. Without flexibility you only may get away with swimming 50-200 meters… and I know, guys that at the top tier do it all. Without flexibility it’s almost impossible to improve technique.

  • @bretgreenfield9501

    Hmmm, I just don't get it, why this is so tough,,,and your coaches should be helping but they don't get it either, but your video of you swimming says it all, your arms are slapping the water, they should have a bend in them to cup the water, like scoop it, what you need to do,,,is put on a lot of clothes, then jump into the water, and try and swim, it wont be easy, and it will force you use a correct stroke, or even go to a ball pit, bring your kid, when he is a little older, and try and swim across the balls, no way to grab and pull them, you must almost roll over the top, using a scooping motion, hence like a golf swing, what a powerful kick you have, if you learn the arms, we can take 80% effort away from the kick:) I do believe,,,swim, bike, run,,,is a lot to how we learned to ride a,bike,,,you have to feel how to do it,,,

    Well done LS. VERY INTERESTING WHAT WE SAW TODAY...
    The Wife and I...
    I almost spat out my coffee when reading the comments and got to @beachedbeluga 4:22 comment... I was like... "Hey, that's what we just said..."
    My wife and I saw that scene, we rewound it and watched and again...
    If that's you in the nearside lane it looks like something I have had to work on... (and I'm really slow) but same idea... NOT FULLY DOWN SWEEPING WITH HAND / ARM but RACKING high in the water.... bent elbow...
    1) The guy on your right appears to be KICKING LESS, STRETCHING OUT, and making a FULL DOWN SWEEP of the HAND / ARM... after out stretched
    This appears to keep him straight and lead to a nice natural ROTATION... His lever...
    2) It looks like yourself Lionel is bending your elbow, is not out stretched, and aren't completing a full down sweep with the hand arm shoulder - 50 - 70 cm... Hand to Shoulder...
    3) The OTHER GUY's hand exit's top of the thigh.
    4) Your hand exits hip level in that scene OR ABOVE, exiting early... it's all slap slap...
    5) It's like chicken wings / arms, NOT getting full water hold / depth and slipping at the end with a sideways wobble...
    Don't take that personally LS, I know you're a great guy who has humility, you know the edges of your own competence...
    You're doing great...
    1) STRETCH
    2) HEAD TO SHOULDER
    3) THEN DOWN SWEEP... FULL ARM (50 -70 HAND TO SHOULDER)
    4) EXIT AT TOP OF THIGH BELOW HIP..
    5) FEEL THE NATURAL ROTATION OCCUR
    Less Tug Boating
    Watch 4:22
    Then again I may be wrong.

    This is why fast swimming is reserved for young people 🙂

    Been swimming for 45+ years, to me, swimming is 60% technique, 20% cardio, and 20% strength. Work on distance per stroke. Generally I would say arms above the water doesn’t mean much, but your left arm swings wide. Loved seeing my old pool at ASU!

    • @highertest
      @highertest 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kinda have to go wide if the goal is open water in a group like triathlon is.

    • @414s4
      @414s4 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@highertest I’d say that I’m an experienced open water swimmer, not just a pool swimmer, and I wouldn’t want a wide arm swing, as I avoid hitting others, or catching waves with my arms. Don’t need it for sighting either.
