This in my humble opinion was Lana Turner's greatest performance. Vincent Minnelli has said himself that when he directed Lana Turner in "The Bad and the Beautiful" that Lana was a terrific actress who was never really used to her full potential at MGM as a fine actor.
Wonderful melody! A great movie. I remember that I and my sons enjoyed it some 30 years ago and never forgot, specially the death of Lana Turner (an interpretation masterpiece). Thank you.
I saw the full movie on my digital TV. It is a family movie. Children and adults should watch this movie so they can learn how to differentiate what is right from wrong. How to be humble and full of love. I cried the last ten minutes of this movie. I am going to order it so that my other family members can see it. AAFernandez
I just happen to like old movies; Lana was 44 when MX came out..Bennett was 60 and she passed away the same year. Critics did not like it. It is a melodrama ( soap) but I like different genres. Did u ever see Tuesday Weld as MX in 1981? She was quite good. I like the old soundtracks too...Frank Skinner did MX, Backstreet, Imitation of Life..Franz Waxman's Peyton Place and Max Steiner's soundtracks Summer Place, Rome Adventure...Hope u enjoyed the tribute !

je devais avoir 7 ou 8 ans lorsque j'ai vu le début de ce film : je me rappelle de grands escaliers desquels est tombé un homme, je me rappelle d'une jolie femme blonde effrayée, de cette même femme descendant d'un yatch la nuit en cachette, poussée par sa belle mére aprés avoir dit une derniere fois au revoir à son fils. je me souviens aussi de l'image de cette maman qui, sous la neige devant les vitrines neworkaises de noel, croyait reconnaitre son fils en chaque petit garcon blond qui passait ... je me souviens aussi avoir étè envoyée au lit parcequ'il etait tard et que le lendemain il y avait école !!! ce "demi film" m'avait tellement marqué! les scenes etaient tellement fortes! et malgré mon jeune age je ressentais la gravité de la situation, le desespoire de cette maman. La fin c'est ma mére qui me l'avais racontée le lendemain...Ces images sont restées ainsi en moi, j'ai grandi et l'atmosphere de NY sous la neige, les vitrines illuminées, la nuit qui tombe tot ont toujours eu une resonnance particuliere je suis persuadée que "Madame x" y est pour qqc. j'ai toujours cherché à retrouver ce film et à en voir de mes yeux la fin, mais je n'en connaissais pas le titre ... alors merci Isa qui, juste d'aprés les quelques details que je t'avais donné, tu as retrouvé le titre de ce fabuleux, merveilleux, touchant chef d'oeuvre Aujoud'hui j'ai 52 ans et toutes mes émotions de petite fille sont réapparues en revisionnant "Madame x"
Constance Bennett ( sister of Joan Bennett) was 59. Sheilia Graham came to the Movie set and wrote in her column, that Constance Bennett looked better than Lana did! Which really ticked off Lana. The Movie filming ended in March 1965, and Constance died suddenly in July at Fort Dix in NJ. Her 5th husband that she was married to for years, was a Brigadier General and she is burried ( now with him next to her) at Arlington Cemetery. I enjoy old movies and trivia too.

@jose osmir fiorelli I agree, ever since I was a kid I collected soundtracks....a good score is necessary to deliver the story...when a score is weak I'm usually not interested in the film....TY for tuning in :)

I don't think the Movie was a sucess, it was on TV 2 years later, remember My mom watching it and saying that Constance Bennett looked as good as Lana Turner and was playing her Motherinlaw! there was like some years difference in their age, but not enough for this part. I always liked the Music and that old Cadillac Limo coming up the drive, its the best part of the movie, the rest is rather melodramatic..

This is one of my favorite movies. Even this "abridged version" had me in tears.
