It's the craziest thing to offer advice on really one of the heavy hitters in the industry as far as acoustical treatment is concerned (there's another company that I love also) and people just foo foo it like it's nothing. People have no idea how useful they can be. You can absolutely sculpt your soundstage for the better?, or just to change it up once in awhile. I have a pair of Magnepan's and they will give you INSTANT feedback on even the most seemingly trivial changes! They're constant radius which I believe is very important as it keeps everything is does even. Wonderful product.

Well, if you did not have over 40 years of experience including working with the head of the American Acoustical Society who wanted to send you back to school to become his patent attorney, I could understand your comment. As it is, I have to listen to folks who are quick to offer their opinion with absolutely no clue as to who they are talking to. I have to deal with it all the time. People becoming experts by Dr. Google. What a bloody joke.
As for Magnepan, well, indeed a wonderful product under the careful and loving development of Wendell Diller. He was the real designer over the last 20 years, not Jim Whiney. But he has been buried and brushed aside by new management. I don't have much confidence in that company going forward and happy that I could sell them when I could.

    Hello Lou
Still await your follow-on video about ASC Tube Traps. I currently have a 12" behind each Maggie, diffraction side out. Never thought of putting them on floor.
Off topic: How is your wife? I think about her, and the trauma you both have been through.

At 2 AM this morning they advised her that they had a new heart for her. Surgery started at 4:30 and ended at 10:30. All went well but there is a need to leave her open for 12 hours to deal with bleeding. If all goes well, I will be able to speak with her Friday afternoon. Right now, obviously, she is sedated. I drove up to Cleveland after taking care of our farm needs and arrived at 8:00 PM. So, so far, so good. Thank you for asking.

An excellent suggestion but also listening is essential along with the willingness to experiment.

Nope, don't need them. But interested nonetheless. I'm curious, I suppose a lot of folks run into acoustic nightmares? Whether it's construction materials, walls, floors, ceiling, etc... and then room configuration. I guess I just lucked out with my room's dimensions (21X13 ft) with the system on the back, 13 foot wall. Fortunately, I'm able to have my speakers 3 1/2 feet from the back wall and 2 ft from the side walls. I do have a bay window on the one side wall but, I always keep the floor to ceiling drapes closed and they have their own, many equidistant folds in the cloth. I also believe (as opposed to know - not science) that materials in my home help. House was built in '68 and building materials and craftsmanship was quite good. My sheetrock walls were finished in plaster. The sub-floor is legitimate 3/4" plywood with 3/4" oak over top. Yes, my floors will and do resonate when I feel like turning up the volume. Here again, I guess that they fortunately do so because they've never contributed to any feedback. And, a short while ago, and only at high, high volumes I could create a feedback loop with my turntable. But, I eliminated that entirely by simply placing a 1/4" inch thick 12 X 12" square of cork on top of the bookshelf (which is loaded with pounds and pounds of books an albums) then I put a 1" thick 17 X 14" slab of marble on top of the cork. Dead! Perfect. By the way, if one shops around you can procure a slab of marble like that for cheap!

Indeed, room construction is a critical element.

@@audibleeleganceinc Would you agree that much of the "stuff" in my living room (listening room) actually absorbs a good bit of the sound waves? Things like upholstered chairs, couch, rugs, curtains, wall-hanging tapestry, and I've heard it said that books absorb sound as well. Your thoughts or some benefits from "natural", commonplace interior design?

@@audibleeleganceinc I believe I can trust my ears. I partly state such because I've not measured (save for a cheap free app on my phone that measures decibels). But I do trust my ears.

Yes, I understand that but they are labor intensive and shipping from the west coast, which dealers pay, is a bear. But, they work exceptionally well if you know what you are doing. TThey are not for the inexperienced. Art Noxon is incredible.

Well that opinion flies in the face of the American Acoustical Society and Bell Laboratories that actually invented them. In short, you are seriously wrong.

@@audibleeleganceinc I struggle with critics who offer strong opinions without any sort of substantiation. Clearly they would have an effect. Whether that affect would be small or large would still depend upon a number of variables. I can readily imagine laying one of those horizontally in from of each of my Tannoy tower speakers, right in front of the port-plinth and they absolutely would soak-up and/or absorb - to what degree I don't know.
