What is your method to finding distances? I struggle especially with them and i feel like there are many methods that work for certain people! Also your equitation is beautiful, and I genuinely think you are one of the best english riders on youtube!
Thank you so much! ☺️ I have a few tips which helped me improve.. 1. Do lots and lots of courses of poles on the floor, you can really work on your eyes and canter quality (and adjustability) this way, and there’s no ‘real’ consequence to the horse if you make a mistake on a distance (not like with an actual jump any way). I try to make sure I have the canter I need in a show, and I pretend sometimes the poles are big fences. I practice this daily, of course I ride many horses… but if you only ride one horse doing it 3-4 times a week is no more stress on the body then a flatwork session for example, but you can practice your ‘jumping’ basics without having to stress the horses body by actually jumping! And when doing the floor pole courses, stay calm if you make a mistake and focus on the job at hand! Normally if the canter is good and rhythmical the distances will just come! If my canter is bad I’m often too deep or too long ! 2. Look for the distance in a forward way, don’t wait and wait until you see something! 3. Power in the canter is key, and keeping the energy on the turns! 4. I tend to count from 1-8 in my head over and over to help me keep check on my canter rhythm 5. I stride the middle of a vertical and the back pole of an oxer ☺️! 6. Practice makes better! You only learn by making mistakes and trying to do it better next time!
@@LaurenAllport Thank you so much for the advice! Im looking to lease a horse soon and im definetely going to prioritize flatwork and canter rythym and i think it will help me and the horse a lot, since many of the horses at my barn have only one canter speed since they havent learned how to effectively shorten or adjust, but ill defintely put these tips to use! once again thank you and have an awesome day!!
I really appreciate the way you voice over the round and explain your thinking, its so much more engaging as a viewer and I always learn something from it :)
For someone who is still getting to know Dede, you did a stellar of a job. Not even kidding. You looked comfortable (including Dede) and very much in control. It’s just so amazing to see how far you’ve come since I first started watching your videos. Your skills and confidence have grown tremendously and I am just so happy to be able to watch your journey. Kudos Lauren! P.s. that Dede is a fantastic mount. She looks like she would excel in speed classes as she’s got a bit of spice (and I mean that in a good way) and a careful eye. All the best with her - she really suits your style ;)
I loveee her !! she's so fun to watch, what a dynamic little horse, she looks like a very fun ride ! do you know what breed she is ? she reminds me a bit of urano, with her bouncy canter (and how she seems to get a bit strong on the forehand as the course progresses...? 😅) I can't wait to see more of you two, that first outing seemed to go really well !!
Lauren , what bit or lack of are using with didi , I have a very forward hot mare that is very anxious and toses her head somewhat and am thinking of trying some kind of hackamore

Thank you! She’s usually a nice amount of forward when jumping 🔥 😀! She’s a Dutch Warmblood ☺️

For flatwork and small fences I use a Dr Cooks bitless bridle, and for shows or jumping bigger I used a Myler combination bit ☺️
Thanks for the info, saludos from Argentina.

How on earth does an Irish gal living in France have a Wisconsin sweater?? As a native Wisconsinite, I know first-hand that no one comes here lol
