In the big scheme of things great season with a qb that was meant to be a bridge season. Bad for us Vikings fans who have seen them fall short so many times. Just another dagger to add to all the other failed successful seasons. Hopefully they fix that O line so McCarthy is better protected next year.
i can guarantee that if JJ fails to carry the Vikings to the playoff, there will be alot of fans be switching up on him. They be saying they rather have Darnold!! People only live for the moment and let their feelings run wild.
Except JJ is already under contract for 3 more years and an option for peanuts and Darnold would cost a ton more money. So your choice is JJ and a bunch of Free agent and re-signing money or Darnold and way less money in cap space. Easy choice.
This was a very good season. KOC proved, again, he knows how to win. He did it with a good, but not great team. His offense will always push the ball down field. He needs an offensive line to give the QB time. Period. KOC has the caps space to assemble a solid OL. I’ve been a Vikings fan from the beginning. I’m very optimistic about their future.
his offense always pushing the ball downfield was great and all during the regular season, but once the Oline started failing and Darnold was pressured every time he stepped back to pass in the last 2 games, the gameplan of throwing the ball downfield did not work! I think KOC needs to learn from this and needs to spend more time during the regular season working on a whole bunch more quick plays from the QB.
"His offense will always push the ball down the field" False. His offense spent the entire game Monday night embarrassing themselves. His offense spent the previous Sunday night embarrassing themselves. His offense failed to push the ball downfield in the 2022 wildcard round, resulting in an embarrassing home loss to Daniel Jones. You're off in fantasy land right now.
@. Thanks for the reply. It’s true that the offense wasn’t able to execute its game plan. Which is pushing the ball down field. Most,y because Darnold held the ball too long. And made miss throw after miss throw. He also took nine sacks, losing 90 yards. A consequence of his shortcomings and a weak OL. The fact this plan worked for 14 or 18 games suggests KOC knows more about football than you.
@@RichardHill-d8k So you were wrong and I was right, then? Kevin O'Connel's offense is, in fact, not always able to push the ball down the field. What you said was simply incorrect, and you're mad at me for pointing that out. Is that about right?
@. KOC designed the Vikings offense around big down field plays. And they did pretty well. Going 14-3 over the regular season. The offense is designed around precise route running. And accurate, timely passing. Something more difficult if the defense pressures the QB. And even more difficult if the QB doesn’t throw on time. There is simply no reason to believe Darnold could have executed some different offense had KOC changed offenses against the Rams. I’m pretty confident the Vikings can improve by using its cap space to acquire better offensive linemen. And, I think, it’s obvious they need to move on from Darnold. And, I hope they stay with an aggressive offense.
"JJ Mcarthy needs and elite o-line, elite running game, and an elite coach in order to succeed." Is the exact same sentence as "JJ McCarthy is a bum, and the Vikings are wasting their time with him."
So you became a believer that JJ McCarthy was going to succeed in the NFL the instant the Vikings drafted him? Your opinion is worthless in that case, since it's clearly just another delusional Vikings fan.
The post game response of two coaches who's QB's played poorly. O'Connell - “I just want to say it’s very important we all think about Sam’s body of work, what he was able to do this year, when not many people thought he would be able to lead a team to 14 wins,” O’Connell said. “It did not work out in the end, and I think Sam would be the first one to tell you, could he have played better tonight? I’m sure he would tell you he could have." Harbaugh - "We did him a disservice and didn't put him in the positions to be successful enough, but he played like a beast. … There's nobody in this entire organization who gives more blood, sweat and tears and contributes more, produces more for the entire organization than Justin Herbert." Pretty telling.
You do realize that the offensive line is composed of players, right? If you had the best players in the league at every position, there would be no need to "build the line", as you would already have the best line in the league. Are you drunk or something?
The issue with Sam Darnold is not that he is a bad quarterback (which he clearly isn't) but what pro team can figure out how to eliminate these lapses that he has. Whoever can accomplish that will have another franchise quarterback in their stable. The question is is it going to be Minnesota or some other team. Ironically there was some talk Los Angeles Rams may pick him up. That would be a complete victory for the Rams over the Vikings if Darnold springs a complete spectacular season with the Rams.. One concern about JJ McCarthy is that the injury he has could occur again and possibly multiple times in the future, possibly. I can't remember his injury but the original injury he has now originated while at the University of Michigan. And that same area was re injured or re aggravated early this Viking season. If he gets injured several times in the future and basically hobbled for a good part of the season then the Vikings essentially lose their star quarterback. That situation is they lose Darnold and McCarthy. An issue to consider. It could be high anxiety that has hampered Darnold's play against the Lions and Rams. Any way, figuring out how to eradicate these lapses by him could allow a full effective play by him.
I’ve seen J.J. McCarthy in the pre-season and it seems he’s the guy for the Vikings. Just like Sam Darnold when McCarthy got injured, Sam plays like he is the guy for the Viking and many said so too. That’s a huge dilemma for the players, too much expectations and treat them like superior in all aspects and never like them to make mistake. High & mighty treatment but then if they screwed up which inevitably happens in all the players , all the best work they did are washed out. That’s what happened to Sam Darnold even he did a very good job it doesn’t matter for these people who once praise him now want him out just like that. I hope it won’t happened to McCarthy and I don’t know who will be the next QB for these people who thinks they know best!
I am ready for the McCarthy era. I was hoping he had another year learning but Darnold ahowed in those last two games we need to move forward sooner. Darnold would want too much money anyway. I wish the best for Darnold. He had some good games earlier in the year.
They said we would be the first draft pick and i said best offseason ever for our Viks. Going forward it is just going to get better. Huge cap space and ready to get right on the O-line.
Stop listening to the media and people about trading KOC or keeping Sam.. extend KOC and Kwesi the same amount of year as JJ's rookie year (4-5yrs) and build the OL and team around JJ. Keep the continuity, coaches, managers, and players and just build.
Transition tag is 42 million. No way they get him signed for Mayfield money and it would have to be a long term deal to avoid the 42 mill transition tag. It's JJ time and use the cap money to get him an OL that let's him cook.
JJ is a quarterback that reminds me of Joe Montana. He can throw. And he is mobile. Just like Montana was.. and already Win at every leve so far.. High school championship. College championship. And he is going to win it at a pro level for us.. a championship there isn't know doubt. He is our quarterback for next season.. and for the future.

Let them compete for starting job and eventually JJ will be our QB of the future. Key is to build up OLine and we need a game wrecker on Defense.
Here’s the problem: During the season we asked Sam to prove himself, and we’re prepared to bestow the QB position to JJ as though he had the reputation of a prime Peyton Manning. It’s just a backwards way to look at it. It might work out fine, but if JJ washes for us then here comes the pity party for the Vikings. A whole year of whining that Darnold was being "disrespected", and now each and every Vikings fan wants him gone.
Next time your team signs a QB that has spent 6 years bouncing from team to team and earning a reputation as a grade A bust, spare us your crying when we say he's a fraud.

DARNOLD actions was he was ready for the season to be over with is why he played like he did
Your coach is too general no plan nothing to prove , got no special plans for play off offensively play book , got to come up something you can bring on the table. How long we have to wait for Championship
As a Sam Darnold fan I pray to God they let him walk. 14 wins. Passer rating over 100 14 times.. You know what you have with him And he should get better. Vikings fans are so cocky they're willing to Hang another season on a guy who is hurt in a pre season game and that's all they know about him. Dude could turn out to be Mac Jones or even worse Sam Darnold with the jets. supposed to win 7 games. The only teams that The Vikings lost to will be in the NFC Championship game you guys suck.
Sam isn't even 90% of jj lol
I like Aaron jones

The line was terrible. JJ couldn't be successful behind that line.
SKOL!!!
That’s cute. JJ didn’t even play! Darnold at least got you there. Pathetic as usual. Just turning your back just as fair weather fans do
Guys…he is totally unproven at this point. By 2028 we will know if he can stay healthy, win and not be a BUST ! I emplore you to be very cautious and while you may be on the HOPE train now…derailment may be sudden and catastrophic! I know this teams track record and so should YOU !!
