Young Elephant Bulls, Mambo & Zindoga Go Trunk to Trunk at the Waterhole!

- The bulls are at it again. Lately we have seen renewed fun and games between young bulls Mambo and Zindoga. Their sparring takes on a playful tone as they challenge one another in the water and on the edge of the dam, and even Pisa is roped in! These two “brothers from other mothers” have often been close over the years, drifting sometimes when Zindoga has enough of Mambo’s challenges. But recently they appear to have been bonding over shared exuberance and bullish energy.

Fwiw, I just saw a YT documentary about giraffes and feel badly that I've never really appreciated their complexity - their herd hierarchy, how the cows communicate to protect the babies, etc. And they're endangered, as well. 💔

Since it's unusual to have bulls hang with cows and young ones like they do at HERD, I appreciate how peaceful their connections are.

You can tell that both of the boys are still in puberty so to speak as they have both dropped during their sparing matches., as this excites them . Boys will be boys 😂

Beautiful shooting of the Girafe running away from Mambo and Zindoga She doesn't want to be in involved I am always wondering how they can keep their balance while running I know they compensate with their long neck and the movement of their bodies but their galop is fascinating Our beautiful Bulls Zindoga and mischevious Mambo do not have this problem while sparring they are taking turns stepping back for their greatest happiness but beware Gentlemen no one mess with lovely Pisa Go play further ! 😅😂

I was noticing the same thing about the girrafe running, how it moves its neck to compensate for the fast gallop. Its neck moves similarly to how a human rider has to move on a galloping horse.
The giraffe was beautiful although for a moment when it ran down the hill I was afraid it would fall. Incredible photography both of that and the boys wrestling.

Sitting and watching HERD is one of my happy things. I love the carers and Adine and the fact the elephants are safe, fed, watered and loved yet totally get to be elephants! You see the joy of their lives in their daily walks in the bush and the frolics in the water. Truly you are all very special people for what you are doing and it is so nice to see good in our crazy world.

Hi Beth! Yes, if it gets too rough, one of the older bulls usually steps in to calm it down.
How fun this was!! Mr Zebra showing his graceful running...Sebakwe watching the boys..and these two beautiful young bulls showing off their strength! Zindoga did NOT like Mambo chasing off his precious Pisa! In the end Zindoga scores for this round!! I realized just how much I missed seeing the whole Herd family! Its funny to think of Zindoga running away from the hippo...given his strength and size 😄 These young bulls are magnificent looking Ellies! ♥♥

Loved the opening with the giraffe galloping away and then some other animal running from it. Laughed how the elephants non chalantly walk up to the watering hole with the giraffe looking at them.
