- At a Guardian Live preview screening, David Mitchell and Robert Webb talk about why they decided the ninth series of Peep Show would be the last, how they collaborate and their highs and lows of filming the show.
Mitchell and Webb were joined by writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong (creator of Succession) for the launch of the ninth and final series of Peep Show at the Greenwood Theatre, London, on 5 November 2015.

52:15 - Rob totally steals the show by mouthing "Who cares?" to the audience while David is talking about his steak, then David thinks the laugh Rob gets is for him. Too adorable.
This made my day
Il
54:44
I love hearing Robert Webb laugh.
HaHa
Jesus Christ Guardian. Hire some proper sound engineers.
Can't hear a word of the interviewer but the audience applause destroyed my ear drums.
Super Hans was the engineer!!!
I was really really pleased with the track, once we got that weird hiss off. I mean, you'll never get it off entirely....
@@imaybebeaparanoid Needs longer notes...for the dread.
Cameron Ahlstrom needs more cor anglais
It would literally take me a few hours to fix this with an old laptop, a free DAW, and a couple hundred dollars worth of plugins.
Even watching them in this, I can still hear their voice overs of what they are thinking during the interview :D
FulfMubLana so true and I love it. :)
FulfMubLana We're here doing this interview and we could be at home watching Heat
41:27 you can hear webb correct him saying season and muttering "series"
Alex Harris I realise you made this comment 10 months ago but I wanted to applaud you for finding that 😂
Omg yes 😂 peak Britishness 😂
Watched in the US, please do not make a US version. Perfect as is!
+brian chan There is a pilot episode for a US version on this website somewhere, it's worse than you ever could imagine.
I'm trying to think of an appropriate Mark or Jeremy reply for this.
+brian chan The guy with the glasses and curly hair from Big Bang Theory is Mark and Seth Meyers brother is Jez. It's weird as fuck and there's no POV camera, just weird zooms.
+samantha sellick I just felt the energy leave my body reading that.
+samantha sellick ha-ha I bet, yea the idea of an American rip off made me feel sick
It's funny how all the things they took from the set are fitting of thier characters. Robert/Jez: the shoddy (but hilarious) poetry, David/Mark: a neatly framed vintage car, and Matt/Superhans went overboard, hired a van, and took the sofa.
The most quoted Peep Show lines I've overheard in pubs are Super Han's "Nice relaxing smoke of crack" and "Nice packet of Crunchy Nut you've got here; very expensive as I recall".
Nice packet of Crunchy Nut you've got here; very expensive as I recall
is literally my favorite line from anything
Embittered Drunk I’ve accidentally run to Windsor
You're a very simple, stupid person aren't you?
I tell you what, that crack is really moreish.
"the secret ingredient is crime"
Chance would be a fine thing
A fine thing, indeed.
Saying that a bit too much now
43:16 - Webb comforting David with a gentle hand on knee because of the "pacifically" - which turned out NOT to be an intentional 'Mitchell & Webb look' gag.
Why can't I have everything I want all the time? Isn't that democracy?
One of the top 5 funniest shows ever made. I’ve watched the entire series about 3 times over and it’s funnier each time. I wish this show never ended!!!!
This crack is moreish
+TheGmaN93 "Boy, this crack is *really* morish"
zitronegern While we're on Super Hans, you wouldn't possibly know what "omaerte" means? Hans says something is omaerte, referring to a betrayal of some sort. I think it was season 1 :)
+Siuil omerta is the code of silence in la cosa nostra aka the mafia.
omerta also means "family".
Siuil You need "Re-Wen-Gey!"
Peep Show should never end. We will kidnap the actors and make them star in new episodes under an awkward - Peep Show style - hostage situation
+Russkiy Smiffy *internal monologue* Are we going to do this? I can't believe we're fucking going to do this! It's okay right? It's fine. This is how all TV stars feel. Kidnapped by producers and thrown in front of a camera to dance for the sadistic masses to point at and laugh
Richie Richie It was a joke Richie, a small Christmas joke...
Russkiy Smiffy Yeah that was the internal monologue of going through with the peep show style hostage situation ^^^ (read it in Mark's voice)
I'm all in Lol
+Richie Richie I got your joke and started reading in Marcs voice after the 2nd sentence. He could've said something like that!
Russkiy Smiffy Oh shit! I just got ur reference after watching the Chrismark episode lol
David Mitchell is starting to morph into Christopher Hitchens.
+ill clinton Jesus I was just thinking the same thing but thought I won't comment because literally no-one will agree lol.
+ill clinton In what way?
+ill clinton physically, yes! (eyes, nose, head shape) Nowhere near as brilliant as Hitchens though.
+Bashaar Khan I think he might be, given time. The thing is, hitchens was not only brilliant, he also had bite, and I don't think David will ever have much of an edge on him.
+ill clinton que paso con el episodio 7 temporada nueve??
I was an avid fan of this show. I'd love to see a spin off with Super Hans, he was such a classic character.
Peep Show is absolutely perfect and a work of genius.
brilliant comedians, brilliant writers, a superb show
I like David and Robert's synchronized nose rub at 3:16
Chance would be a fine thing
The audience is exactly what I imagine guardian readers to look like.
very white, urban and middle class
Shouldn't be allowed.
1) They look lovely
2) I`d say they are the Peep show fans, not Guardian readers
The only sitcom I've ever watched that despite having 9 seasons I could easily watch 10 more. I wish it would come back :(
Funniest show ever on UK TV
American here. I wouldn't want an American version of Peep show! It's very much a Mitchell and Webb based show and I like how unique the show is with the casting, etc. I like the freshness of the writing and comedic style of Peep Show. It's nice to see a show that is popular in the UK because we don't get that much over here and British television has always been a unique thing. I admire the art that the UK puts into everything they do!
I think the "mental posho" is my favourite of jez's gf's too. Sophie Winkelman is such a brilliant actress! And quite gorgeous as well
love the interviewer. driving the conversation then sitting back and letting them talk
This just makes me really nostalgic
They need to do a one shot 15 years later where they are still in their dead end ruts. Except for Super Hans who is a run away success you tube star.
Is that.. normal pooing you're doing mark?
doesn't smell normal...
doesn't sound normal...
You're off the team. Sickness is weakness!!
Jesus... Is this your thing?
As an American, I have watched this series at least 5-6 times. Most of my friends have seen it and love this show. Men behaving badly, IT crowd, anything with Matt Berry, there is a long list of shows I really enjoy watching over and over.
Final series was a masterpiece! Thanks for finishing it so strongly! One of the best shows ever. Great work all! Excellent writing and perfect execution.
Bring this bloody show back!!!
Anyone else notice Robert Webb correcting the Canadian by saying Series after he says season at 41:20
Great insight would be cool if they did a Q & A session with all the other main characters too
"Has he had a shower? Looks like he hasn't showered!"
Two greatest UK sitcoms ever. Dad’s Army. Peep Show.
This has been established.
Utterly fantastic hommage for the fans. I watch the series non-stop since I bought the boxset - Yes! I bought the boxset. 9 series of top quality writing, acting, production, the casting. Only Dad’s Army achieved as much.
No admitted to taking home Kenneth.
Mike D lol
He's still in Brise Norton.
Thanks a lot, Elgar....
This was great such a good series and I really wanted them to make another last series but every series is good and will be in the memory :)
legends !!
Love love love these people
"You invented gogglebox", they don't agree with this, but has she watched the TV comedy "The Royal Family"? It won awards and is basically goggle box many, many years prior (first screened in 1998).
The nose touching when Robert says "Clearly the point of that episode was to get everybody back in the flat... and that was a very funny way of doing it."
absolute amateur hour for whoever miked up, levels are all over the place.
Good insight into the show though.
+Nick Bednarz Yes the sound is shit.
Yep, if 14 year old gibbering you tubers with zero training can do it at home.....
It should never end
nice info in the description, so succession and peep show have a shared writer
MITCHELL AND WEBB ARE FANTASTIC
Bring it back!
I love how funny Robert finds the Johnson big scissors line at 54:52
I guess hiring an audio technician was beyond the budget of the Guardian back in 2015. I wonder if their financial position has improved in 2021?
Had to run the audio through my 1176s before I could bear listening to it!
3:17 touch your nose and look up
I had to check what year this came out when she said there'll be a lot of coughing... Happy Quarantine guys!
Best show ever!
So glad someone brought a baby!!!
Safest place for it.
I feel like David Mitchell is very much mark in real life
On New Years Eve in SuperHans apartment, this woman was conducting an interview
the way he looks away
Good content, if you can ignore the room noise and hiss.
Who mixed the freaking sound for this? Ever heard of compression?
Ever heard of volume.
13:50 Lol
They should have played Borneo function in the background
TURN IT UP! TURN IT UUUUUUUUUUUUUP!
+NickLip09 Chance would be a fine thing.
I want Peep Show the film, and Peep Show the musical. :)
Did the batteries on the microphones run flat?? can't hear a word...
"kids have been conceived...and taken their 11 pluses"...fucking hell...Guardian.
+steven durrant I know right! The Guardian, more importantly their team, are full of people that are so desperate to see things in a coffee-shop class level.
'yah, its amazing how the shape of a vessel can be effervescent of life. The circle of life almost aligned to round table of struggle can be seen so clearly in this item...'
'...its a can of coke!'
To me, they come across as sooooo judgmental!
They are constantly on a working-class-safari...
+steven durrant that's the guardian hypocritical bubble for you!
You serf types are ridiculous.
That kinda stung me too.
british people are so sensitive
what Americans don't get this show? Dude, i am American and fucking love this show. LOVE!!!! So much so, that i follow them on any project they are in. I just started watching Back, also Doby is wifey.
BallzBallz agree on everything and I'm American too
Terrible sound.
que paso con el episodio 7 temporada nueve??
I'm a bit confused about when the Frankfurt bit happened. The only time I can think of is when JLB shuts down but Jez was definitely there...
3:18 synchronised sniff
There will be a film or a Christmas special Mark my words!
That interviewer is definitely the one
as a person who lives n australia, what exactly would i have to do to meet m&w and become their best friend? this is a serious question.
The Bush poem. I love Elena’s sardonic appreciation. From which it follows I love Elena. 😊
Did anyone else notice that they scratched their noses at the same time?
They must have known what was going on in Super Hans' flat, something to act and react around, like how Ianucci knew what was in Alan Partridge's hotel room drawer.
no the whole point of that scene is not knowing. You have to imagine for yourself.
"Super hans what are you doing?!"
"Bit ah crack."
Favorite line from that show.
Guess I’m downloading this and pushing it through Audacity
Pls reupload
that interveiwer is shocking...
What does someone in the audience shout at 17:40?
+Art Community "OBJECTION!"
What I would take from the set? Easy. Kenneth.
@Matthew Jamison Pretty heavy from what I remember, you might have trouble moving it.
russell brand might have been alright as super hands, reigned in a bit
This comment hasn’t aged well.
41:25 did anyone else hear the person correct the Canadian when he referred to the first series as a season? :L
do people not do mic checks anymore?
this is so hard to hear and the stage, the smallest table ever for 5 people to reach
+Claudia Seeling Fiver @ Ikea
that's a bedside table if anything
no volume somehow?!
How much do david and mitchell actually contribute to writing peep show?
Easy Tiger
'Ice cream on the way to the airport!!!' - Did David Mitchell give away a BIG clue to the ending here? Does Mark go out to live in New York in pursuit of Dobbie????
+Matthew Wignall I think it was a continuation of his metaphor about how their still working on the show was like being on a holiday that hasn't quite ended yet
Is there no sound mixing/editing before this is released on TH-cam? It seems not. I had watch this constantly with the volume control in hand; turning it up to catch what is said, then turning down for other bits quickly before my neighbours call the police. Fantastic video though. I could watch you lot for hours on end.
Maybe I should justify that with the fact I'm a 25 year old with no difficulty with hearing, in fact, I'm about to submit a PhD in sound art studies. in b4 someone says 'shut it, granddad.'
Disclaimer: I was drunk when I wrote this, sorry.
Disclaimer: Disclaimer: I'm drunk now.
I surprised no one asked about Kenneth
It's so funny, in the states asking an actor to do a line is kind of rude, especially in this type of forum. Is this no big deal in the UK or is David Mitchell just amazing?
Big screen actors might consider it rude, but Peep Show being such a cult show with a dedicated fan-base, I imagine David is perfectly happy to do Mark's lines. Besides, he is a comedian anyway.
Olivia Colman didn't get a mention 😟
I swear to god middle-right on stage could be Russel Howard's dad.
pretty sure that woman was in Morning Matters with Alan Partridge
+alyraver and the Jeremy threesome episode
+Peadar Ó Croidheáin The Guardian’s Julia Raeside.
Better sound at a spunkbubble gig
Wonder if superhans ever made that supergroup
I wonder who took Kenith?
For anyone suffering the same brain fart as I was for the last 10 minutes, the interviewer looks loads like Rosie Cavaliero who has been in various british sitcoms, but is not! It's Julia Raeside
Every character in Peep show are 'arseholes,' not just Mark and Jez
except Johnson.
If people could stop asking "did you think x was going to get big" people are always nice and answer it buts the most boring question imaginable most of the time, robbs answer was the only worthy one "yes" because its the only thing people never say
