Television video quality back then was much better than what most people think, especially younger people who didn't grow up during that era and think video quality was crappy 240p running at a super low framerate, as that's what almost all uploads of things from back then are since uploaders pretty much have to rely on super old vhs tapes and couldn't upload them at 60fps before youtube changed it's framerate policy around 2016. This video is pretty much standard video quality for live events from back then.
@@drlight6677 Yeah a lot of old concert footage was shot on 16mm film which can be rescanned and uploaded in HD. What makes this special is that it was shot on Sony's first HD camera system and was recorded to analog tape. It never caught on because the consumer tvs and broadcast technology couldn't transmit and reproduce full HD for about 10 more years when people could afford hdtv's and it became the norm.
I have had a bizarre dream in which I get to heaven and Jeff and Mike are jamming with Warren Zevon - I get to watch and then Jeff hands me his sticks and says "have at it brother!". Talk about amazing dream huh? It was very much like the end of that movie with Seth Rogen and those guys' - up in heaven. Very almost city like, there is a music hall and it is HUGE. Let's all hope eh!
I was lucky enough to hang out with Mike and Jeff after this concert, at the Bar des Musiciens - I went to high school with them, but had not seen them in years! It was the 5th of July. The next day, I also was with Toto at the home of Claude Nobs, founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival
@Mike Porcaro I knew Mike in high school (we graduated the same year 1973) and you know he has a widow and kids, so please consider the potential harm of pretending to be him!
Ouça as outras músicas desse show, principalmente "Jake To The Bone", o baixo tá espetacular!!!

Such talented musicians. Jeff and mike were taken too soon. Such a shame. I'd say that this song is one of the best in the history of mankind. The 70s and 80s were the golden era of music. Such a pleasure to hear this. ❤❤❤
Mike has such a beautiful smile. Had a major crush when I was younger😭 still do. The way he plays bass so well! So talented. You can tell he loves music. Ahhhhh! 😩 I can't !
When it comes to this song live in my opinion it’s all about “Gonna take some time to do the things we never had (ooh, ooh)” god I love that part ❤️ gives me chills every time I hear it
3:46 triplets on drums must be Jeff Porcaro and only he did triplets at the break nobody has done that since. He was a very talented drummer up there with Bonzo kinda like the halftime shuffle in Rosana I think he was inspired by "Fool In The Rain" for Rosana on the drum track and made his on unique thing
They used playback only during the 2002-2007 period (I guess because Bobby couldn’t hit the notes consistently anymore), every version outside of that period the chorus was done without playback.
This live version is amazing, I can't believe that I just found it! Here's my journey to this upload: On the subreddit r/iamatotalpieceofshit today is a video of a female Uber driver getting assaulted for doing her job, when the POS entered her car Rosanna was playing.
At this point, Toto had already fired lead singers Bobby Kimball, Joseph Williams, and Jean Michael Byron (who basically had a cup of coffee with Toto as their lead vocalist).
I just sawt the live version of 2017 and the only one I recognize here is the keyboard player. But he is not in all the other live version of afrika so far.

Bro it's too HD for 1991.
Let alone 1998 WWF TV has no match to this quality.

One of the greatest songs of all time performed by the best rock band ever. TOTO!!
Holy crap it is. Combine it with some parts of the 82 Japan show where he still hit some of the high parts.
That is some high quality footage of 1991
This was filmed only a year before Jeff passed away... RIP.

At 5:25 Paich cheering the crowds to clap to his own creation. What a talent.

Actually , it's in the original song, during the last chorus, it's just very well hidden

Oh! The drummer missed the entry right after the words: "hurry boy she's waiting down for you" 1:44 sec
In the original he also played this fill before the first chorus. So he didn’t miss anything.

Why did Jeff have to leave us so soon? 😢
Where is bobby kimball?
He had left the band at that time.

good, but raise decibels on vocals.
Probably the mic gain at the actual concert. Unfortunate.
2020?
This is pretty much the original lineup without Bobby Kimball and Steve Porcaro.
