Perhaps it can be used for banana fibre, banana extract, and other uses where taste doesn't matter?

@@randangbalado It's on the radar, selling most of what I make at farmers market mixed with honey and water. Like kombucha. I have pickled with it many times. Each variety yields different results.

fruit within 3 months? so you can plant it as summer crop in german and harvest before too cold, right? it only needs delicious fruit gene, maybe

We are planning to experiment with similar fast varieties. Might be a new market: buy a small banana plant in spring, harvest in autumn

remember borneo gets about 70% more annual insolation as germany. but hey you can still grow massive pumpkins so why not. and that extra is mostly in winter

usually it is meant 3 months from flower to fruit. Still need to grow it to the flowering stage.

@@gorillapermacuture if that is true, it isnt really novel. then why malay gov "endorse" it as fast harvest banana like allthefruit said?
or is it really just a scam like every gov usually do? 😅

It's easy to understand the benefits of shorter plants. Easier to harvest, the plant wastes less energy growing taller than it needs to be so it can harvest sooner and another benefit is that short plants are far more resistant to being knocked over by the wind. Flavor is generally a secondary concern for commercial varieties. That's the case with pretty much all fruits and vegetables. Here in Costa Rica I have several banana varieties and of those I have 2 of them are far better than the others. But both would be terrible for commerce because they go from underripe to overripe in 2-3 days. Hopefully breeders will eventually succeed in creating a dwarf variety with good flavor.

You are right. Since here most people grow them for self consumption and small scale trade they prefer the tasty ones

Huh, perhaps it would be ideal for planting in colder climates, due to the rapid production and ease of covering in winter.

I think medium tall bananas are more practical, the tallest ones are obviously difficult to harvest but i think this is too short for non commercial planting, it can't suppress weeds by itself and will likely have more pest too, making what is a very low maintenance crop more labour intensive. And it also have very small leaves too meaning you can't really even use the leaves either.
Unless this thing tastes absolutely amazing i don't see it becoming popular.

Great video! I just reviewed the Pisang Awak and Burro Banana. I made a trip to Latin America last year and was able to try numerous jungle bananas which I didnt know what they were. How do you know that this is the short banana?
