    Dave, the Seiko mecha-quartz movements can be adjusted. You can adjust the new starting point for the center chrono hand by pulling the crown out to the second position (like you're about to set the time) and using the chrono pushers to advance the hand in 1 second increments.

    I bought it at day one because I was waiting for a 42mm Spinnaker watch. I fell in love with it immediately. Live is even better than in photos. looks like a watch much more expensive than what it costs. Fortunately I didn't have the problems yours has. For now I am very satisfied. Good job Spinnaker, and good review!

    I recently discovered Spinnaker Watches and I fell instantly in love with the brand. I especially love the Bradner model. The Hill Chronograph is a really unique watch with the Seiko Mecca Movement and I'm wanting one for my collection now. Your video was great. I found it informative and interesting. I am now a subscriber to your channel Enjoy that beautiful watch and can't wait to see more!

    Thanks for the code and the review. Just received mine. Mine is the Lapis black dial, black strap variant. No QC issues as far as I can tell. Alignment of hands is perfect, no weird black dots on the dial. But I do share the same nitpick that the lollipop chronograph second hand is blocking the big date window. Kind of defeat the purpose of a big date complication. Nonetheless, it’s a good looking watch with decent lume, and good casework. Also a different font (non-italic) has been used for the brand logo which is easier to read.

    Hi Dave I am a fan of Spinnaker’s range in general. To realign I have found over several brands, pull out the crown to either the first stop or second, then push either pusher, as in upper or lower to reset/align. Then push the crown back in fully. I am not saying this will work on the Spinnaker but this method has worked as I said on several chronograph watches I have. Great review & yet another modelS🤣 on my list👍🏼😎

    Hello dave,I like the watch nice dial and chunky looking.downside is the quality control with the stitching and dust.puts me off buying this watch.like the sweep hand movement also and the double window date function.wondering how much these watches are worth second hand?how much they depreciate over time.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't really looked into how Spinnaker's go on the second hand market. They tend to do limited runs, so they often sell out of certain models, which I think results in a smaller second hand market, it might be hard to find a particular model and color used.

  • @gunterwillemse7206
    @gunterwillemse7206 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Spinnaker has the sister brand AVI-8 and it also has the quality control issue. Mine came with a large flake of dial texture stuck on the crystal and it was running plus fifty five seconds per day. I sent it back. Not good enough.

    I just picked one up on a Black Friday deal (£138 with tax to the UK) and have to say it's a very nice watch for the money. OK, it's a Panerai homage, but not too overtly (or at least not to one I'm familiar enough with to think "Nice, but not original" when I look at it) and for the money it not only packs in a lot of features, but also looks good and well made - Time will tell if the final point is true, but at first sight, I'm impressed. - Oh, and I got 5/6 (this is my first 'big date' watch).

  • @brilliantradience
    @brilliantradience 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That's a good looking watch, I like the cushion case which adds to the vintage flair. Not a fan of the dial, would prefer a solid color and less texture with a higher contrast to the logo although that seems to be how it plays with the light.
    Sucks about the QC issues, maybe the watch was serviced sloppily lol, that should be covered under warranty. The size is nice and the height is concealed somewhat by the beveled bezel, it might take a few knocks just like my Seiko BFK, after all it's just an illusion.
    It looks like an expensive watch but needs refinement IMO, just a few finishing touches, but I think even the snobs would secretly like it lol.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this were one I purchased I'd definitely be contacting Spinnaker about getting a replacement, but seeing as it was a review unit, I'm not going to complain. The strap I can fix, and the other issues I don't really notice much. I think Spinnaker's dials are the sort of thing you either love or hate. If I was looking for just one watch, I'd probably want something simpler, but as part of a collection it's a fun option to have.

    Thanks for the review. The watch looks nice but I find it strange that the manufacturers don't seem to bother to check the watches they send out for reviews. It just thwarts the idea of having positive publicity by sending the watches to reviewers and let them spot the issues and share them with the world. I've recently spotted reviews in other channels which featured watches (not by Spinnaker though) with obvious QC issues.

    I had similar thing happened with Rolex/Sub with an hour hand... :).. comparing to my Seiko/Sub that never had the issue.. I was devistated, until nice older gent from rolex center had fixed it... he also noted that my date wouldn't change in last minute of the day... That was 32 years ago... rolex/sub only now started to show slowness... and worked as it should... That gent was very experienced and mentioned its not the issue.. its what they do about it... that taught me quite a bit.... but then... I did teach him also something new..... After he finiwhed which took almost 2 hours... I took my loupe out... and looked at the dial... and guess what... he fixed my issue with an hour hand.. but... left a few dust marks on the black dial... which I showed him... asking... the watch has to be returned in almost factory clean condition.. on which he deeply exhaled... and spend another 1.45 hours removing 9 gaskets.. to get to the dial :)... i felt so sorry that I didn't tell him prior... yet I presumed they follow the spec :)....
    ...The story doesn't end :)... there... Cost of rolex maintenance was around $1k.... on which I thought that after wearing it for 30 years... perhsps I could invest that $1k in another watch :)))))... so I select a nice solar dial Seiko prospex for almost $500... and it looks so lovely and technological.. 2 hours on the sun... and 6 month of operation ?!... Amazinf.. right ? Well... similar thing as above happened... only worse... I noticed that a quartz senconds hand clicks on each marker precisly on the mark.. on left side of the dial..but NOT on right side of the dial :)))..... FIrst I thought it was the stepper motor... yet to fail just on 1 half of the dial..... not much chance of that.... So trhen.. it dawned on me.... Seikos are rarely made in Japan... mostly its Japan movt if at all now days... All is done in China... and although China makes great products nowdays... yet here.. they made a boo-boo :).... The dial was incorrectly labeled !!!!!
    I immediately returned the watch... and if YOu think that was a fluke... get this.... while returning I looked at the reviews for similar watch.... And You think I was disappointed ?? There was 1 comment from this gent... who included pictures of the same watch as mine.... WITH BOTH HANDS FALLING OFF AND HOVERING OVER THE DIAL !!! I had to pinch myself... since I'd NEVER believe it... if I wouldn't see it.... These arent same Seikos... anymore..... or so it seemed....

      This is a really good Chronograph for the money, definitely one to consider. I also just did a video about a month ago about budget Chronographs (June watch of the month club), check that out if you haven't. I just picked up the Citizen Brycen, which is another great sub $200 chronograph. One other slight annoyance on this Spinnaker that I forgot to mention is that the chronograph minute subdial doesn't have markers for every minute, only every five minutes, which makes it difficult to read.

    Crazy thing is as soon as I stopped buying expensive mechanical watches and just wearing my $20 Casio ae1200 everydays my personal stress level has gone down considerably. I was never happy with the accuracy even though it doesn't seem to matter in the modern world it drove me crazy. I was worried about the watch or watches. I was always looking at something new. I haven't taken this Casio off my wrist and six months and don't miss anything about my mechanical watches. They are sitting in the dresser next to me right now. Maybe put them up for sale soon. I guess I like still having them I just don't want to wear them!

      Yeah, they were a bit surprising. I actually had the crystal break somewhat mysteriously after that, and posted a pic on Instagram, Spinnaker contacted me and offered to send a replacement and asked if I could send that one back so they could look at it to figure out what happened. The replacement they sent is perfect, no defects of QC errors, so that was a bit a of a relief. I think the first one I got must have just been a lemon.

    The QC is an issue. If this is the watch they sent for review, it doesn't
    bode well for the rest. If they just grab the nearest one and send it to
    be spotlighted on YT, that's pretty reckless on their part.
    Leaving that aside (if you can) it's got a lot going for it.
    At the end of the day it is as always a bit of a gamble with these watches. Even if something as innocuous as a hand falling off occurs; your looking at the choice of
    perhaps an energy sapping saga with the manufacturers or a relatively expensive trip to a watchmaker. If this had a Chinese movement it would be ditto with bells on.

    That chronograph hands misalignment has nothing to do with the movement being mecha-quartz itself, but with lazy/sloppy work by Spinnaker's contractor. Other than that, the hands look like they belong to a watch that came from a gumball machine... eeeew.
