I was a patient in an Australian hospital about a year ago, was in for a bit over 3 weeks, personally I'm happy the nurses don't work 12 hour shifts, I don't want to be treated by a nurse who's already been working 10+ hours, is tired and likely to make mistakes, I would much rather a nurse who only works 8 hours and gets to go home and have a proper rest before coming in again. It's a an OHS thing for the safety of both the nurse and the patient.

The sound for pedestrian crossings is for people who are blind. There are two sounds. A ‘slow & low’ sound while you wait. And a ‘fast & high’ sound to tell you to cross. Also, the metal panel above the button vibrates in time with the sound… for people who are DeafBlind, so they can know when they can cross. Billie Eilish has sampled the sound in one of her songs.

The pedestrian button units are also designed to change the volume just above the ambient noise.

I live approx 1 hour north of Sydney on the central coast and the difference from the city is night and day. Drivers stop to let you cross and they're not in a rush like the city. The difference is noticeable during holidays when the city people come.
It's been unseasonably warm at the moment but yes, the air can feel hot. Stay hydrated !
Yes, multiculturalism s a thing 😊 There's many restaurants and market's where you can buy most of the things you need .
Aussies work to live NOT live to work. Why live in a beautiful place and not enjoy it.
There's a huge shortage of rental properties but if you can't view the place during the public times most Real Estate agents will book a private viewing if possible.
The Sim card situation isn't normally as you said but my carrier is different . Telstra can be expensive. You can usually choose the number you want and it's normally much quicker and done online .
Good luck with everything,it seems you're fitting in really well. Your attitude and outlook is great 💕

I grew up in Adelaide and now live in Melbourne, so I can't speak for Sydney directly, but aggressive or impatient honking is considered rude. There are other types of car honks though that aren't rude. For example if you're behind someone at a set of traffic lights, and it looks like they might have become distracted and not noticed that the light's have changed, then giving a short honk to let them know that is acceptable (if they then wave you around and/or turn on their hazard lights to indicate their car has broken down, and you keep honking at them you are both rude and an idiot). A quick double honk (typically combined with a wave) usually means someone is acknowledging someone else on the road, like a friend or co-worker, or they might be saying goodbye to someone standing on the footpath. If you use public transport you might hear bus drivers honk at one another on the road, it's just a way of them acknowledging their fellow worker.

By the way… we don’t say ‘bi-weekly’ when talking about a 2 week period. We call it a Fortnight (14nights). Most people are paid either weekly or fortnightly, so paying most of your bills the same way makes budgeting easier. Only people who are managers in corporate companies are paid monthly. Utility bills (water, gas, council rates…) are paid quarterly.

No, horns are very rare away from the airport. I live not far from Sydney city and rarely hear horns. Mostly it’s if a car ahead isn’t paying attention to the lights when they change to green.
After a while you won’t notice the birds.

Employees get paid double time and a half or 250% of their normal wage per hour to work Public Holidays because it sux to work when everyone else has a day off! 😂 So, we pay a bit extra to help cover those wages - so still go out on Public Holidays and support them. 🎉🎉

The reason the birds are so loud is explained scientifically in the book Where The Song Began. Basically, they're noisy because the trees produce a lot of nectar, which is a food source, so the birds have evolved to pick a tree and guard it from others by yelling at any other bird that gets too close.

Hi Gorgeous girl. I laughed at your 3 culture shocks because I'm an Aussie and i totally agree. The horns, well I'd say Sydney drivers but I'd be in trouble. 😉 We are like it also in Melb, but as some people already said that around airports and cities it happens more. Never go to Istanbul, it's like an Orchestra of horns day and night, 😃 although i do love Istanbul. Flies, thankfully they haven't migrated here yet as weather hasn't been humid yet. The birds, aargh! I like my windows open all the time except when the birds decide to start conversations at a very unforgiving time of the morning. Keep enjoying! 🙂

Pedestrian crossings do change fast in Australia too if it is a dedicated crossing that does not include a road traffic intersection.
Crossings at intersections have to wait for the sequence of the road traffic to stop where you intend to cross...meaning you have to wait for the pre-programmed step in the traffic light sequence when the crossing allows you to cross...late at night traffic light may change faster because the sequence is stopped and the lights are activated with sensors that detect when a car is there waiting...also pressing the crossing button acts like the sensor too almost immediately.

God bless you kind lady! Welcome to Australia, it will be a difficult adjustment. Our country has some big contrasts between warm people and cold people, and very strange weather and animals. If you like seafood, chatty people, or walking in nature, then I hope one day in the future you can visit Hobart City, Tasmania. We're not so loud and busy as the other capital cities. We have a lot of nature close to the city, and we don't like to rush the same way as Sydney. Also our mountains block the rain, so the weather is often dry compared to other capitals. And we promise to kill the blowflies before you arrive :)

Hi nurse deo, young people do not use actual cards these days they have all their banking on their phone and they just place their phone over the eftpos machine. You might like to investigate that rather than using a card. The thing about having to go to a physical place for a licence is a security requirement to show you are the person wanting the licence. If a cockatoo comes on your balcony dont feed it otherwise you will be plagued by them.

Not all places charge extra for public holidays, but if they do, it would be to help cover costs and wages. For example, if you work on a public holiday, your boss has to pay you extra, it’s a government wages thing. So some places might have a surcharge to cover that.

Flies in many parts of Australia can be very prevalent and annoying. But many people inadvertantly make themselves more attractive to flies by their own actions. Most skin care products and body lotions that contain perfumes or fragrances or other ingredients that actuality makes one more attractive to flies unless they are specifically formulated to repel flies and other flying insects. Even many of the personal insect, fly or mosquito repellants can actually cause flies to be attracted to you an hour or two or more after an application when the active repellant ingredient has worn off but the perfume or other components still remain. It may be that some of the manufacturers of these products deliberately formulate their products in this way to increase the number of applications needed each day or outing, which results in a need for increased quantities per person per day and thus increased sales. If you seem to be particularly attractive to the flies you may want to consider trying out a range of different skin care products for outdoor daytime application to see if any perform better as far as keeping the flies away goes. Unfortunately for some but fortunately for others some people just keep attracting flying insects of all sorts no matter what they do while others just never get bothered by them, with most people usually somewhere in-between.

Yeah, you frequently hear honking horns around the Sydney airport district because of all the Taxis and Ubers travelling around there, the vast majority of these public-vehicle drivers having recently arrived from third world countries where continuous & aggressive honking of horns is customary. Once you get away from these congested inner-city areas and out into greater Sydney (and particularly the suburbs north of the 'Bridge), honking horns are seldom heard and driver's behaviour improves markedly.

I’ve rarely honked my horn and didn’t hear it much. Normally it’s a warning that something is wrong like you might be reversing and about to hit something or a person so you honk the person to warn them, or sometimes being rude and impatient.

    • @FaisLittleWhiteRaven
      @FaisLittleWhiteRaven 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Just wanted to chime in as an Aussie here but the hotness of Aus can vary a lot depending on where in the country you go and there are actually quite a few places here that are genuinely cold year round (like the Snowy Mountains in NSW and pretty much all of Tasmania).
Sydney tends to be sort of in the 'middle' range for Aussie weather though: Usually quite warm (usually in the mid 20c to low 30c range) though it can drop down into the teens or shoot to the upper thirties depending on the season.
The thing that really trips a lot of new comers over though is that the air here tends to be very dry and the sunlight burns faster here than it does elsewhere, so you might need to stick to the shade and drink a fair bit more water than you would in your home country so... Yeah. Hope that helped info-wise a bit~ =D

15% Surcharge because of a holiday. WHAT!, that very rare not seen that. I am from Sydney. I hope it does not become a norm I would of just found another shop to eat. As for Flies, wait until full summer, get used to the Aussie wave.(shooing flies away). Biweekly is the norm for rent payments, that because wages a biweekly as well. Deliveries suck after covid, before Covid it was good. However when you order you need to find out where the warehouse is if it in Sydney it should be next day. But if it is Melbourne it can take 2-3 days. You will get idea which shops you can order from.

The impatient drivers is just a Sydney thing mostly. Too many f'ing cars there.
The long delay on the button at pedestrian crossings is because a lot of them don't actually do anything, they just make you think they do, the lights are on a cycle (this is usually only in more busy areas). They make a loud noise because the noise is not for you, it's for deaf or hearing impaired people. Also if you "Feel" the little metal plate with the arrow on it, you'll notice that the noise also makes the plate ""vibrate". This is so that blind of visually impaired people can use it too. The design of our pedestrian crossings are famous world wide for this reason.
The delay with getting a sim card or service without registering it with your info is because all SIMs are logged by the Australian Government to be able to trace back terrorist attacks or criminal activity. There is no such thing as a "Burner phone" here (there used to be a long time ago).
Sorry about the long delay for shipments, but in case you haven't noticed, it's a BLOODY BIG country, and it's BLOODY MILES AWAY from anything anywhere in the world. 1 week for a shipment from China is actually pretty damn amazing when you think about it.
Enjoying your content, welcome to Australia! :)

I find drivers in Sydney are rude, impatient and like the traffic their attitude is not improving its really not a place that I would choose to live in. I live 1,5 hrs north and right now we dont have the same issue with either the traffic or the flies. The increased number of immigrants that the Federal govt is allowing into Australia is out stripping the infrasructure and the big cities like Sydney and Melbourne are struggling to cope. 570,000 international students were enrolled in Australia in 2022 and apparently its going to increase maybe a money spinner for our education industry but all those people need somewhere to live and have access to other services..Its getting harder for younger Australians to find decent housing and they end up paying extremely high rents because of immigrantion, increased short term rentals such as airbnb and off shore investors creating a shortage of housing. Dont get me wrong we need immigrants to come here but the govt. investment in infrastructure needs to match that population growth and right now it is falling way behind.
