True professional you can obviously hear it’s windy and he’s smart enough to cut where the wind blows the dust away from him instead of into. He’s obviously a just scarring with the grinder and has done it enough to gain muscle memory with his tool because he does it effortlessly. Great job man appreciate the information and knowledgeable you’ve blessed us with!! Thanks again brother.

Ive done this type of work before and never once did I use a grinder to cut the stone. I used my brain and my brick hammer to break the stone to get the shape I needed and the job always came out looking great.

@@lovetheNorml evidently there’s stuff called “stone veneer mortar” that’s pretty sticky and another guy told me to just use “thinset” like the stuff they put tile up with. I haven’t started my project yet, still trying to figure it out, plus it’s so cold I’m using my fireplace right now. Probably waIt till spring. If you fight out let me know, thanks man

80 lb. Gray Type S Mortar Mix
      by
      SAKRETE from home depot
is the easy way and you can
Prepare a scratch coat of type N or type S mortar. Typically, a good mortar mix consists of one part N or S cement and 2.25 parts sand, but premixed scratch-coat mortar is also available. The same mortar used for this scratch coat can also be used for the bond coat and also for grouting the seams... i guess would be the hard way.. copied and pasted... hope that helps... and yes had to be ideal temps to do it.. good luck.. and thanks..

If using type "s" or "n" an acrylic fortifier is needed, with heavy or natural stone wet the substrate to avoid flash bonding .
Now what I do "16 year journeyman" is mix type "s" with a roughly 3/4 mortar to 1/4 thinset "same as veneer mortar" is climate is an issue (wet, or freeze/thaw) I add acrylic fortifier. Jointed work I use type "s" normally straight to tool( remember when using fortifier in tooling mortar, if you joint your work with it, it will give a shiny appearance) always let your mortar "flash" meaning mix to proper consistency then allow for partial set up, add minimal water and mix again. Mixed Mortar has a life of 2 1/2 hours so mix accordingly. You will need to keep mortar consistent through apllucatio. By adding minimal water and mixing again.
Sorry for the long answer but it's better to over explain in my experience

You may have done stone for a long time and it looks good but your cutting and holding techniques- wow. The grinders blade was about 2 inches away from your thumb and the direction of the blade is pulling it toward toward your hand. Be careful man and hold it on the other side.

I would guess that most of you have never put up a piece of stone in your life!! Doing a stone project like this takes forever. You can't rush a job like this. A dust mask is not practical when doing this. Know one wears a dust mask. Look at other videos on you tube people how many dust masks do you see especially if a guy is making a video.

Using the grinder without a guard and cutting without a mask are both dangerous. Highly inappropriate for a demonstration video.
