  • Introducing the new '71 Desert Scrambler by AJS Motorcycles. This bike is named to commemorate the commendable successes of AJS's USA Sales Manager Mike Jackson - in the November 1971 Barstow to Vegas, District 37, Mojave Desert race.
Watch the exclusive interview with Mike himself as he recalls his time in the race. A line-up of some 3,200 riders, faced a gruelling 190 mile course that included such hazards as deep sand, steep dunes, a snowy mountain pass, millions of rocks and out-of-control fellow competitors!

I own an Orange AJS Desert scrambler. Absolute blast to ride. I need to get it on the dirt at some point but for a 125 they’re bloody brilliant

We’ve just taken delivery of our ‘71 (also in orange!) today (20/01/21) I’ve been looking for a bike for my wife to learn on, done a LOT of research and settled on an AJS simply for immense nostalgia reasons, as fluff used to do repairs on all of my motocross bikes in the 70’s and 80’s when I lived in Tidworth as I was serving in the army. Sadly due to covid lockdown, my wife can’t take her CBT, so she can’t ride it on the road...oh well her loss is my gain..... :)

Mike was a great ambassodar for the British industry i first saw him race in the mid fifties as a child and remember one meeting from those days particularly well it was at a great old Hampshire track Hankom Bottom near Winchester Mike was having problems with his Greeves and as you could in those days my friend and i were in the pits watching him disect the carburettor or whatever it was Mike was getting a bit angry and suddenly shouted a few profanitys at this item . My friend and i thought it was best to withdraw from the area then anyway it became the reason i always followed Mikes progress and always read his many articles in the press over the years so remember if you start swearing when youngsters are around it can have lifetime consequences. LOL.

What a great guy. That new AJS would need a bigger engine to work in the sand though 🤣

A stunning bike but let down by the weedy Euro 5 engine. 55mph top end is really naff. If only it were a 250....

I would really like a scrambler to replace my current bike.
Only problem is that my current 125 is 15bhp and can do 70mph easily.
Just wish the scrambler had a little more power in it to justify the swap

If this came in blue, I’d buy one straight away. I don’t fancy a Calwell as the tank looks too bulky but the 71 is ideal. Do it in blue and I’ll buy it straight away.

Shame ajs has sold out to the Chinese cheap built rubbish. That's the only thing that's stopping me buying the tempest scrambler

Well don't let that stop you because it's not true! AJS remains a British owned company
