I'm... I'm very conflicted about this. On the one hand the combat is beautifully choreographed but on the other this is not the dark tournament at all.
I was thinking the same thing it's just the only person who ever kidnapped Keiko was hiei.
They cant afford renting a stadium, This is a low budget series,,, sad that they tried too much and it fails the expectations.. Even the Toguro doesnt seem scary at all.., i was expecting like close to HULK like effects transformation of muscles,, using 20% 40% 60% 80%, in this series, he used more than 100% all at once,

The fight scenes are great. Imagine if they put the same effort for the whole Dark Tournament if they made it. It would be the greatest live action adaptation. And the production cost is not that huge, like Hollywood huge, but they made it so entertaining.
Well they can't make the dark tournament now as well the characters are mostly dead.

Honestly they did a good job with only 5 episodes. My friend (never watched YYH btw) watched the live action with me and he really enjoyed it and could follow along pretty well. I just wish we had more episodes to see the teams relationship develop more naturally and so we could have the dark tournament. With this level of acting and choreography, it would've been amazing. It's a shame that they condensed so much into only 5 episodes.

It was well made for such a rushed and condensed series. They skipped over way too much content with character development and their training and had to change how the Dark Tournament went down which was really good in the anime. It's too bad they didn't write the show better and stick to how the anime or manga went with a longer series. It could have been way better.

I honestly don't know how to judge this. On one hand, I am beyond thrilled that they gave YuYu enough respect to even attempt this, and the fight scenes aren't bad for live action. On the other hand, this feels like a fan made cosplay fight more that a live adaptation done by a professional studio.

I have no idea about the anime; I never saw it, so I can't say anything about the art style or how good the adaptation is. But this fight is ridiculous; it looks amazing, and IMO, it really captures how intense anime fights are.

It is an adaptation considering they were trying to condense a lot of storylines in one season.

Honestly I'm conflicted as well as many others. Because how would they truly adapt the Dark tournament saga live action. Then again. It's literally one of if not the greatest tournament arcs in all of anime and arguably the peak of YYH. How do you cut it out

Becuase they only have 5 episodes. I genuinely don't know why fans are so irrational when it comes to this stuff.
Anime pacing and storytelling does not work work with TV serialization.
One Piece would not have been as successful if they just followed the original arc, it would have been a mess.
Even if they had 50 episodes they wouldn't be able to tell the original story of the anime. It just doesn't work.
Anime fans have to stop taking this kind of stuff as some kind of insult or disrespect and understand that the original medium just can't be replicated. The original story will always be there for people to enjoy, it wasn't destroyed or ruined.
The Live Action would only work with a different plot, but they deserve praise for being able to preserve the characters and the tone.
They should've had Rando and the Saint Beasts for this season instead of Team Toguro.

apart from them not including the dark tournament, as well as the other fighters, or even other demons, this was the best anime live action i've ever seen! toguro was one of me favorites. especially since his evil motives were just a mask. what he really wanted was to die by someone stronger than him and pay for his mistakes
the anime is my 2nd favorite of all time, this made me feel nostalgic. Just 5 episodes and they got it. I would love to see a live action version of sensui, and raizen in this.

im sure why they didn't do the dark tournament arc is because soley the budget and they need to do a test season to see how well the ratings are... imagine how much the cgi and visual effects cost to shoot each fight... even the background of demons in the stadium... still awesome and unexpected that we got a live adaption. yu yu hakusho is one of the best OG animes.
Cmon. Regardless of how accurate this is, you gotta love seeing these three fight together. Its something ive always wanted to see in the anime. The ending of both OPs have team urameshi standing together and fighting and we never got it. That alone makes this kind of cool to see

the fact that hiei in later chapter able to oneshot each of 100 demons much stronger than younger toguro in this scene is unexpected :V
For how condensed it is, it's not bad, but I would honestly LOVE a full dark tournament arc with this kind of fight choreography.

One of my all time favourite anime i would say and most popular as well. Watching this scene surely shows that the future of real live action movie of anime adaptation is in good hands, and the fight sequence are brilliant. Excellent work by the team who made it possible for anime lovers to watch it as live-action movie, but don't wrap it up by editing major imp details. The tournament of power season arc was the best. ❤❤❤❤😂
If they put this much love and energy into a fully fleshed out show that included the Dark Tournament arc, it could have easily rivaled the best shows on Netflix. All in all, this was a phenomenonal adaptation. I hope the same team handles all future live-action anime titles.

The fact of it is that cutting major storylines is is significant change itself. The dark tournament is a major part of the reason the show was even popular to begin with. I'd even say it's the most iconic arc. It's the arc most people are familiar with. Cutting that alone is a major deviation from the source material.
They could have easily made this a seasonal show though I guess they had no faith the series would hold up.

I understand why they didn't do the whole tournament. It would've been just too much for what they had. I'm sure they would've loved to, but it's not always possible.
They could’ve made the setting like the tournament though and it would’ve made it slightly better. Some demons in the crowd on the bench. Dialogue from some of the other fighters maybe. But I think overall this series was good. Hope they make more.

I took this adaptation for what it was and for me it was pretty good. Again it's an adaptation which has 5 episodes so I expected a lot of things to be cut from the anime/manga. They did what they could to cover most of the key points to tell the first part of the story in 5 episodes and for me they did well and they have a good cast. Now it's up to us fans to show support if we want to see more YYH content. They are hinting at 2nd season and imo chapter black arc is gonna be more doable for them budget wise and if that is successful who knows? Maybe we will get the 3 kings arc and it gets a little revamp too. Just season one leading up to dark tournament alone would take at least half a million $ in budget to make. Imagine just the sheer number of characters and CGI work that would require. This is coming from someone who grew up reading the manga and watched the anime multiple times than I care to count but never get tired of it. I really hope season 2 does happen it will be very interesting to see who they will pick to play Sensui, Itsuki, the doctor, sniper and the rest. This adaptation series has a lot of potential.

Yuyu Hakusho without the Dark Tournament is shit.
I don't think it's all shit besides the Dark Tournament but with that said I really think cutting it out does make the series inherently weaker and have way less depth. The character development is far worse without any of those scenes.
