Thankyou so much of makeing these videos. I just love to watch them. And to have opportunity to c these gemsales which we dont have here in Finland. Absolutely amazing❤
Awesome video bud. I watched to the bitter end. LOL. Just recently started finding interest in lapidary, mostly from watching the Opal cutters, like Justin from Black Opal Direct and Phil from The Opal Mills. Most people probably wouldn’t understand, it’s just rocks, but those rocks ROCK baby !!! Nice guitar playing too. My brother for real used to play pretty good, until he passed. Had cancer throughout, and in so much pain it was a blessing when he did. Love ya and miss you bro… You got a sub tonight, I will def be checking out more of your channel. Keep up the great works man !
Dave you deserve every credit to doing this videos its should be on TV ! Top of that you are fantastic polite nice person ! Keep it up my man ! I love gems rocks and you show us places and educates us thanks for doing this sometimes I watch 3 x4 times same videos example like this one Opals are my favourites ! God Bless you 🙏
Thanks for your knowledge and great stones and raw materials, great work, this Australian likes your vids, I grind and polished for myself as a hobby, bench grinder and wet and dry by hand! 😅
That guitar jam at the end was awesome! Loved looking at everything. Loved the morrisonite. I think I have a piece of something similar and some Blue Mt. I forgot I even had it until I seen this video. That polihedron agate was interesting to say the least. Loved looking at the cabs. The big turquoise has a fracture line so glad you never grabbed it. Some of those were so deadly looking! I wanted to see a cab from every different type of stone flipped over for prices. Really really enjoyed the whole video from the top opal to buckets of everything to these cabs ending with the great guitar picking! Thanks Dave. Hopefully see you in Heaven someday. The rocks never cease to amaze me and there is always something new and spectacular!
Kudos David, What a glorious first five minutes. Dare I say that it was a Opalgasmic Opening. Also please can you explain more on the topic of "Cooking them with Sugar" as you stated because I have never heard of such a thing..
Hi Dave, Rather than the Foster machine, If you found a high-speed variable speed Dremel of some kind, wouldn't that work? You just need to mount it in a certain way and then get that vacuum cleaner going.
@@lapidarydave This is Smart Opals from 8 years ago. This was before he had the Foster machine. th-cam.com/video/FLhGH3jzCVc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T2o8GTX_985cQ6Hm
how do you get into making this your job? does it have to start as a personally funded hobby or is there a fast track to being employed as a lapidary artist
@ yeah….ive been passionately watching and learning so much about mining/cutting opal specifically the last 3 years and ive been a rock hound my whole life. mining, ive heard its bare minimum 100k if you want to break any ground in Oz. ive seen cheap lap wheels but it seems really extra hard to cut on horizontal replaceable pads vs a $1400 cabking lol. i heard you say you live in Taos? i lived in a tiny mountain town 40 min from Alamogordo for a year. loved it- gave ski lessons
@ very familiar with alamogordo 🙏 I don’t think it cost $100,000 to get into you could take it slow and just do one thing at a time by one piece of equipment that can make you money such as a saw or a machine make money using them and go from there
Great ones are very expensive Good ones are reasonable Bad ones are cheap It’s all about the opal inside with very little as just a nut specimen without any precious Opal in it
Hiya Dave, do you have a link and name of the new type of polishing machine you're talking about at the opal place with the south African sounding lady, cheers 🦘
58:58 how about just don’t lie to people and call a low quality specimen, high-quality, and also Dan beam when you come and return it. You’re low quality piece because you felt ripped off goes both ways
That’s not comforting to know that I can go to one of these shows and be told untruths about the merchandise and it’s my place to know everything about it. That’s what’s wrong with the world.
Which part are you talking about I just started watching but dont Have time to finish. Comment the time to skip to in the video so I know what your talking about
It’s around 58:00. Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware) has been part of English Common Law since the 16th century so the world has been this way for at least since then. While outright fraud is usually illegal there is a gray area. There’s a lot of misinformation out in the gem & mineral world. I see wrong information on websites obviously cut and pasted from the same reference source. I think the point is to do what you can to protect yourself because you can’t rely on someone else to do it for you.

Check out Pulitzer opal for the sugar stuff I don’t quite understand how it’s done
That piece of opal for $120 was sweet. With the red
For diamond wheels try T-88 epoxy resin. Ive been using it for years.
Ya'll are my kinda nerds. Minerals and friendly dogs. Welcome to Tucson.
Dave , what are your favorite places to visit at the show?
Kino , 22nd st, Jogs, gem mall ,rmgm, agat, gjx, etc
So where are these dealers? The show covers all of Tucson!
Hi Dave,
Rather than the Foster machine, If you found a high-speed variable speed Dremel of some kind, wouldn't that work?
You just need to mount it in a certain way and then get that vacuum cleaner going.
Dremels are fast but the foster is way faster
You could get similar results but not the same but definitely still worth the try

I think I have information like their phone number and stuff. I’ll try to get that to you soon.
Really? Never thought I'd hear a prostate reference on Daves channel. But now that you brought it up....

Her voice sounds like Liz Kreate on TH-cam from Australia.
On a side note. The so-called Chinese fortune cookie is purely an American invention.
Retail prices are way out of whack.
Sounds like rain.
