I always liked the Transworld Jason Lee one foot over the hydrant cover from some time in the late 80's.
I liked both Thrasher and Transworld, back in the day, you could only get so much without the internet etc. so another magazine showing up that had more articles and pics was only a good thing.
I would buy every mag with my allowance every month 😜😜
Same I loved them both for their own reasons.
Kids today will never know that feeling of getting surprised in the mail with a new magazine, even Eastbay magazines, I would stare at those pages for days

I started skating in 84 so I have tons of old Thrasher and Transworld, Big Brother, Power Edge, and any others. The best are any from the 70’s and 80’s. Those are the true classic and epic ones imo. I also have tons of snowboarding and surf mags from the same eras.
Remember when teahupoo was first featured on Surf magazine covers. It changed the world of surfing.
We had Transworld mags in our school library grade 6 in Toronto. I have so many still with the little card holder on the cover. Was wild.

Dude! I grew up in Kenosha Wisconsin, and I used to check out transworld mags from my middle school library too! I remembered being shocked that they not only had transworld, but current issues there. I was less rebellious than you though and returned them all. This was in the golden age of skateboarding (in terms of the number of skaters) so I knew other people would wanna read them.
Sturt is a LEGEND in photography. Some of the best stories in skateboarding involve Sturt.
He really is the most interesting man in skateboarding.
I have read about him. The under the bridge photo with Matt Hensley, the cowboy hat roof and he even had a trick tip in the old Thrasher where he backflips from a swing with a skateboard

For me best cover all time was the Thrasher Legalize It cover from July 1988. It was the first Thrasher I bought.

I also want to mention that although I think he would of personally been fuming that they did it....the Jake Phelps memorial cover is sick asf for several reasons.
Which brings me too, can someone with a sizeable following (*cough*Levi)start a petition or something to get Grosso a posthumous cover? Phelps asked him what would he want to shoot without pads and helmet,cause unless your Danny way doing a back 360 over the moon,there ain't no pads on the cover....until they gave Lizzie a cover padded up,doing a layback air,and calling it a front side invert.

The best cover Thrasher had was Rodney Mullen is doing a Ollie in the 80s that made me say wtf how he doing that ,l didn't know what an Ollie was at the time,didnt know how to do them from that picture then a month later went to the NYcity seen skaters doing them to ledges up curbs from that point was determined to learn that trick took a few months to learn them

ppl dont understand,watch the Truck Wars episode of Grosso's Love Letters to Skateboarding. its literally the best skateboard video series on youtube. theres 10 seasons and it covers so many different topics. certain cities, certain brands, certain skaters, certain spots, its seriously the plethora of the most skate knowledge ever.
