This is still one my all time fave movies of the 90s. Makes me happy every time I watch it. I like this song as much as the title song "THAT THING YOU DO". I really like how T.B. Player that little strut across the record label [0:21 - 0:27].

Written by singer/songwriters Scott Rogness and Rick Elias. They wrote most of The Wonders songs, except for the title track by Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne.

Got that? So: Which one stays, and which three go? CHOOSE!
The guitars in this scene are: Steve Zahn is playing a Fender Jazzmaster, Johnathan Scaech is playing a Rickenbacker and Ethan embry is playing a Fender Jazz bass
This song appears late in the movie and is obviously earmarked as their follow up hit to That Thing You Do and the audience loves it, but, alas, the band implodes shortly afterward and, subsequently, the song does as well.
@RayBanG15 for that thing you do they did but for this one they actually played it live and a chance to show how much they've practiced they were very excited to be able to play live and said "wow we sound like a real band!" that was actually them
@HernandezWolfPups Actually it was Ethan Embry but he did look a whole lot like Sheldon.I thing the first thing Sheldon did was some chewing gum commercials around 2004 or 2005 they were the first things I ever saw him in anyway ....He was doing a version of the Sheldon Character in the ads ....BTW He is the most perfectly cast sitcom guy since Don Knotts and Barney Fife in my opinion anyway
Man, this is such a perfectly iconic 90s movie. It's really obvious how much time and effort the actors put into not only learning the instruments, but the actual songs. It's clear that Tom Everett Scott could easily play these songs live on a drum kit, but less obvious are the subtle hand movements that the rest of them have while playing - it's not as easy to pick out for Johnathon Schaech because he was playing rhythm in this particular song and basically just strumming in time, but Steve Zahn has really specific movements that indicate bends/chord changes - something often lacking when actors play instruments on film - and Ethan Embry is straight up nailing the bass. That's a pretty complicated bass line but his finger strumming patterns as well as his left hand sliding up and down the neck really make it obvious that he knows how to play the instrument as well as the actual songs (mostly because he already knew how to play the bass before he was cast for the part, but he still had to learn the songs). I've always appreciated that about this movie - the actors really committed to learning it all, top to bottom.
Tom Hanks said they got good enough to play live in a concert. I believe the songs were recorded with session musicians but Hanks wanted the actors to learn how to play the songs for the realism you're talking about. They were way better than the Monkees.
They’re definitely not playing what you hear in this scene, but you’re right they’ve got the right finger placement and technique, which is all that matters in filming with a backing track.
@@billygarcia9885 actually they did play those songs for the filming. The track was later dubbed in, but for the realism, Hanks wanted their mouths, finger placement, and drumming to be accurate, so he made them learn those songs for the shots.
I love love love the part when the girl from the Chantrellines is enjoying the song!! Those 2 were the cutest thing from this film, I wish they could've gotten more screen time!
He's giving honor to the Beatles and Brian Epstein... almost identical to the scene from "The Beatles at Shea Stadium" There's other nods to Beatlemania throughout the movie.
This is one of my all time favourite movies. I love the fact that they all had to learn how to play their instruments for this movie. Spoiler alert for all you Breaking Bad fans. Look for Bryan Cranston in the film. He plays astronaut Gus Grissom. Here's another piece of trivia for you. 1) you clearly don't listen to enough music. 2) viewing art is ALWAYS subjective, and i guarantee you that objectively you name literally any type of music you can think of, and there's a radio station playing nothing but the hits, which this soundtrack is not. whether you like that style or not (especially more than this) is entirely on you, but i can also guarantee there are people out there that would put certain artists over this any day.
LOVE the twangy, Fender-tastic lead guitar in this song. Great job, Steve! Kickass bass playing by Ethan Embry, too. Especially considering he was barely 17 when they started filming and recording for the movie!!

Best song in the movie. Blows "That Thing You Do" out of the water.
Absolutely!
You’re only saying it because they played “That Thing You Do” over and over and over again. But this song is pretty cool, though.
Totally agree.
A great retro song from one of the great retro films of all-time. These tunes could have actually been big hits in the 1960s.

He was great in the movie "Dutch".
T.B. player = The Bass Player…? Another inside joke by Mr. Hanks?
Every song on the soundtrack is fantastic! Great music from the 1960’s emulated
