Love it. Long guard massively improved my sparring, especially when new. You have to watch the shots, with the high guard it’s easy to close your eyes. You and Jeff Chan are really the only people that have solid videos on it.
Same, Im about 3/4 months into my mma training and I only find success in sparring when I use the long guard, I cannot utilize the traditional boxing stance whatsoever and they keep telling me not to use the long guard but I literally only find success with the long guard
What I love most is that you articulate the details in a way that shows how much focus you put into mastering these techniques when you were a regular competitor. It’s what makes me trust the info the most. 💎 You make me excited about training. Makes an old man want to hop in that ring again 😂.
Hey Charles, have you ever made a video covering your personal MT journey? Would love to hear about it as an aspiring gym owner/fighter. I've only been training for a bit over a year and I've been thinking about visiting the motherland, getting some fights under my belt over time and eventually opening my own gym one day. That being said, I'm still young (mid 20s) and uncertain about letting Muay Thai consume most of my life, finding the right partner, and other choices. Sorry for going off on a tangent; there's just a lot of uncertainty right now!
Golden content. Trying to get the long guard down, I struggle most with body kicks that come under my outstretched arm. What are my main defenses, checks with the left leg and catches?
Hey, one other thing that really is just personal preference but I feel is very helpful that buakaw does is having your lead extended arm rotated to where your elbow is point outwards and your hand is pointed inwards, this helps a lot with deflecting crosses and also protects you head a little more because your shoulder is now also helping cover your face. This ultimately is personal preference as I feel both angles have there benefits and consequences similar how there two ways to hold rear hand in long guard.
Muay Thai: Southpaw v Orthodox Training to shutdown Your Opponent! th-cam.com/video/mmP-GGmTFdk/w-d-xo.html This video should be of value in regards to your question! ✅🙏
@@KMAAcademy2020 thank you for the reply! What I meant when extending the long guard, I find that stepping outside really puts me a lot closer to that lead hook, and a lot of times people throw it blindly and pop me on the temple, while stepping in allows that blind you mentioned in this video but puts me in centerline for power rear cross. What I have been doing is just switching stances for long guard alot, but not sure if there is a more optimal way to long guard while in southpaw v orthodox. I appreciate you for all the videos!
Can the long guard be used effectively when you are on the ropes and your opponent is ready to wail you with long and fast combinations? Since stepping back with the long guard is not possible anymore, the long guard wouldn't be "perfect" anymore, so is switching to high guard a better idea when cornered?
I wonder if this works for southpaw......? Since the long distracting arm comes from the right hand. I believe the risk of getting liver kick or shot is high.

Would Long guard be more convenient for the longer person? Just wondering
hey coach. what are some good handsy combos with the long guard
Join the Live today @ 12pm EST, Coach Charles will be covering a multitude of topics and answering questions from the chat!
Would you say the long guard works better for tall fighters?
We’d agree with that statement however it can be utilized by all heights , thanks for watching ✅🙏
Nice! Since I am southpaw, do you prefer stepping inside our outside to be effective with it in open stance?

Does this defense also work well with someone who has short reach against someone taller/longer reach? any extra variations needed?
Fucking excellent video. Thanks for clarifying the long guard for me. I’m mostly a boxer but this is important for well roundedness.

Yes that is correct, we don’t advise the long guard against the ropes.
@@KMAAcademy2020 I see. Thank you for replying to my question, I'll keep your words in mind. Keep being the best coach!

Jon Jones .... Master of the Long Guard
Dudes will see this and think hell yeah🗿👍
confused, a lot of other long guards ive seen especially from old school golden era guys have the cross arm long guard
He highlighted the concerns with that. Buakaw and others don’t do the crossgaurd except in the examples shown in this video.
