  • The second of two gigs (the first was a month earlier at the T&C) played with a kindof supergroup lineup (2 members of The Weather Prophets, Lawrence from Felt, 2 members of Primal Scream, and a girl called Mandy, and of course Rose McDowall).
Filmed at The Reverb Club in London on 13th Sept 1988 (Broadcast on a show called "Rockin' In The UK" on 5th Oct 88).
Video features an interview with Rose McDowall and approx 90 seconds of a live performance of the song "Crystal Nights" (unfortunately the song keeps getting interrupted so you get it in lots of little bits).

Can I just say that this is definitely not Strawberry Switchblade. We split in 1986.

If that is indeed you Jill, can I just say how much you guys inspired me, possibly more than anyone else! "Since Yesterday" is pretty much my fave pop song of all time, and your look and style in the 80s was just sublime. Best pop group ever. You are missed, but your music and style lives on, that's for sure! You got me into Sibelius as well :-) LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH XXXXXXX

Well you were duped, all those years ago. That's not Strawberry Switchblade, it's Rose McDowall playing solo ( with assorted Creation bods ) pretending to be Strawberry Switchblade.

I am not so sure that Rose calls herself "str sw" here. maybe just the title given by the media

I highly doubt he was duped. That there is a supergroup of amazing proportions. Lawrence from Felt! That is classic.

      She's Scottish.
Recommend you eat something Scottish to acclimatise your ears .
How about a bowl of Cullen Skink & a glass of Whiskey or Gin , then for dessert a can of Iron brew & a deep fried Mars bar .
Suffice to say her singing voice is lovely as well ❤️. Both were 🤣 .

You can get impaled by the injustice of the deceit of the powers that be. Or that, whether it's Rose and no Jill, nobody really cares and that probably includes the two of them. Now drama aside, the essence of the moment to me, was her earning by playing live music. Very well. Nostalgia keeps you in a holding pattern. I don't recommend it. Brochures look slick to entice a autonomic nerve to find comfort from regulating the emotional response from the highs to the lows . Trying to capture a concept without a net, balloons, and flippity flop potions can make for deep unrelenting unforgivable passions of a different kind. We both can agree with everything in the future is going to occur because it is how we roll padre.

    That's not Strawberry Switchblade - where's Jill ?
As a duo they had a ( dare I say it ) Simon & Garfunkel feel about their vocals - and without Jill's voice and musical impute ( her songwriting basically ) this sounds a bit flat, to be honest.
And - as history seems to show - without Jill Rose's couldn't cut it !

I think Rose wanted to keep the Strawberry Switchblade name because it was suggested to her as an individual even though she acknowledges that the original incarnation is no more. I imagine she was quite comfortable with the "new look" label. Gill didn't see it that way maybe because some of Rose's friends were not of the kind everybody would want to be associated with such as Boyd Rice.
