Actually, buttercups have something to do with the game. Back during the first child (aka Chara) fell into the underground, they were adopted by the royal family of Asgore, Toriel, and Asriel Dreemur. Chara and Asriel once made a dish for Asgore which needed two cups of butter. The two decided to play a joke on Asgore and used buttercups instead. Asgore was poisoned by the flowers but managed to survive thanks to his large size. Chara, after seeing what the flowers did to Asgore, made a plan. Chara was in no way nice to Asriel, making him fear Chara so that he would do what they wanted. Chara ate some buttercups and died from the poisoning and had Asriel absorb their soul. Chara tried to assume control over Asriel once out of the Underground but failed. Asriel was then seen by the humans and attacked. He retreated back to the Underground where he perished over a patch of yellow flowers, his dust covering them. After Asgore's declaration of war on humanity Toriel fled the capital with Chara's body to the Ruins where she buried the body, which just so happened to be a patch of yellow flowers underneath an opening leading to the outside. It wouldn't be long after when Alphys would inject some Determination into a patch of yellow flowers, where one would gain sentience but not have a Soul and disappear. I don't know what Toby has been through but they really don't like flowers.

This was the video that made me play Undertale :) I watched it 1 day after it was released on December 12th 2015. It was a snowy Saturday, my dad was working and I had to go to my math lessons. I watched the video in bed in the morning and got really intrigued by the game. After my lesson in the afternoon, I went back home. My parents told me they were going out with friends for the night and ordered me pizza. I had the night for myself. I downloaded Undertale, got the pizza and some coke and got to play it all night. I played it completely blind, only ever seen the game from this video. It blew my mind. By that time I had only played shooter games and some basic RPGs like Skyrim. This was unlike anything I've ever seen. This was 6 years ago. I was 13 struggling thru middle school, now I am 19 and in University. My whole life has changed so much since then, everything became just a bit harder and lonelier, but that night will forever be engraved in my mind. To this day I still love this game more than any other. I don't know why I'm writing this, I guess I just wanted to thank Lemmino for introducing me to this game, that became such a big part of my life.

The reason you never encountered the “mystery man” in the 4 runs you did, it’s because the chances of getting the hallway alone are extremely slim, there’s a thing called a “funs value” in which every time you play the game, it picks a random number 1-100, depending on what you get, various things could happen, like getting a sans phone call, or alphys ordering pizza by calling, as well as the mystery man, and the gaster followers, the goner kid as well, (even the sound test room, u get it) the reason why you thought you had to manually edit the game to get the mystery man, is because the chance of getting him is one in a hundred, thought you’d like to know.
Actually, Mystery Man has a 1/100 chance of the hallway spawning. The door to find the sprite has a 1/10 cancer if the hallway is there making finding the Mystery Man a 1/1000 chance.

the fact that not only did toby fox decide to delay the game in order to perfect it, actually learn how to code, and use the donations he got for the game, he also did most of it on his own but still accepted help really makes me feel like he's the good version of yandere dev

*My Theory:* Gaster is probably related to Sans and Papyrus in some way (Y'know, fonts and skeletons) and Sans was directly involved with the accident that supposedly killed Gaster, and this accident sent Gaster to different time lines, explaining Sans' knowledge *about* time lines. *And* that machine in Sans' basement was the machine that sent Gaster through the time lines, Sans' is trying to get Gaster back. *Why Gaster was developing a machine to time-travel, why Papyrus was unaware all this and why Sans' and Papyrus came from no-where I still don't know, but I think it's plausable*

You know what haunts me about that audio file? The voices used sound like machinations, androids, mannequins, or something of that caliber, but at the same time... I can feel a human presence as well, like it's a soul trapped inside a synthetic body. And once I think of that, I think of very unsettling things. The first thing I thought after hearing the audio was W.D. Gaster falling into the core, seeing his flesh burned bit by bit by the CORE's unrelenting heat and energy, and that wretched smile that "mysteryman" wears on his face becoming visible as he falls down and gets spread across the files.
Okay, honestly, I'm getting tired of seeing comments like "Undertale is sooooooooo overrated". I've never played it, only seen gameplay, but trust me, it's an amazing game. You would think it would take a whole team of people to create this, but it was literally just Toby and a couple of artists. To be honest, when it first exploded, I was a bit skeptical that it was anything special. I was one of you. Why are people comparing this to FNAF, you never really had attachments to any of the character, no real feel you can get, and/or unique game mechanic to be introduced. Unlike Undertale, lots of. Donovan Fitzpatrick he probably did have more in mind to do with a character like gaster, but I think he settled to leave breadcrumbs of him behind and to leave enough room for the player to fill in gaps between the trail he left to piece together a story behind the scenes, although there is no one single answer to who exactly gaster was, or what effect he has on the overall story rather, there’s enough stuff left behind to make a great combination of easter eggs for speculation

Gaster is probably related to Sans and Papyrus in some way (Y'know, fonts and skeletons) and Sans was directly involved with the accident that supposedly killed Gaster, and this accident sent Gaster to different time lines, explaining Sans' knowledge *about* time lines. *And* that machine in Sans' basement was the machine that sent Gaster through the time lines, Sans' is trying to get Gaster back.
*Why Gaster was developing a machine to time-travel, why Papyrus was unaware all this and why Sans' and Papyrus came from no-where I still don't know, but I think it's plausable*

You know what haunts me about that audio file? The voices used sound like machinations, androids, mannequins, or something of that caliber, but at the same time... I can feel a human presence as well, like it's a soul trapped inside a synthetic body. And once I think of that, I think of very unsettling things. The first thing I thought after hearing the audio was W.D. Gaster falling into the core, seeing his flesh burned bit by bit by the CORE's unrelenting heat and energy, and that wretched smile that "mysteryman" wears on his face becoming visible as he falls down and gets spread across the files.

Okay, honestly, I'm getting tired of seeing comments like "Undertale is sooooooooo overrated". I've never played it, only seen gameplay, but trust me, it's an amazing game. You would think it would take a whole team of people to create this, but it was literally just Toby and a couple of artists. People play this game because they like it, and they give attention to it because *they like it*. If you see a lot of Undertale, that's because a lot of people like it. To be honest, when it first exploded, I was a bit skeptical that it was anything special. I was one of you. But how about you at least watch a video of someone playing it, and then once you've done so, choose whether you like it or not. It's annoying how people who know literally *nothing* about this game are trying to claim it's stupid. Honestly, the whole story, the music, the characters, the gameplay in itself, everything put together makes this an amazing game, and I love it.
I would be fine if you didn't like it, but when you say you don't like it just for the drama, or because you see it everywhere, even when you know nothing about it, you're just becoming a nuisance, and there's also a good chance you're a 12-year-old trying to look cool (not saying you all are 12-year-olds, just saying that it's pretty obvious the way some of you act)

Donovan Fitzpatrick he probably did have more in mind to do with a character like gaster, but I think he settled to leave breadcrumbs of him behind and to leave enough room for the player to fill in gaps between the trail he left to piece together a story behind the scenes, although there is no one single answer to who exactly gaster was, or what effect he has on the overall story rather, there’s enough stuff left behind to make a great combination of easter eggs for speculation

This game suffers the same problem FNaF did. It wasn't because of the popularity, more so the fandom. People don't tend to like fandoms because of some cringy fanart. I mean, most "haters" like the game, just not the fanbase.
