The only vocals he wasn't singing, and I wouldn't call it lip-synching because he wasn't even pretending to sing them, were his own harmonies he created in the studio. Of course it would be impossible for him to recreate that same sound in its entirety live, him or any other signer who records their own backup vocals in the studio. You can duplicate that live. It's IMPOSSIBLE to sing lead and backup at the same time. So what MJ and other solo artists from that era would do is sing their lead vocals LIVE and have their back-up vocals pre-recorded (Clicks) so you get the entire studio sound at a live show.

I think in order to make some of it work,he had to use backing track with the vocals probably. But some of it you could hear its not lipsyncd , ... Theres vid on here of him on a lift 30 feet above the audience, & the lift gaveway & you hear it hit the ground, he injured his back, but finished the song & went to the hospititol after the show.
