(With the sad, sad passing of Jeremy's beloved friend and co-Sherlock Holmes star, Edward, Hardwicke, it somehow feels as if Jeremy had died all over again; or at least a part of him. Both these wonderful men will forever be loved and terribly missed.)
Jeremy Brett IS Sherlock Holmes. NO one can ever replace him.
More than 30 years after they were made I repeatedly watch him as Holmes. Unbelievable actor.
'Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?'
Then he will live a very long time.
No one will ever be a better Holmes. R.I.P. Jeremy Brett.

@@edgarpoe3812 I would say he was "the best", in terms of appearance and also acting.
@@bdragonovic9415 no it was basil rathbone. Brett copied him in many ways after watching him closely before taking up this huge role of his carrear. He was not confident enough before starting acting this role of sherlock in his early days. You can watch that how the basic movements that he copied from rathbone. Then later on he added some of his own special gestures in those acting to excell sir basil. So in my opinion sir basil rathbone was his mentor. But Mr brett was so prideful that once he told jokingly to David burke in name of an illusionary fan letter that Mr rathbone was not fit to clean brett's boots even. This was the real thinking of his heart, that he started to develop after gaining huge popularities by playing sherlock H . He forgot that sherlock Holmes is a magnificient character and a king in himself. He placed all his actors on golden throne of popularities whoever played him till date during their own respective times . Mr brett was also no different from that.

I think Basil Rathbone is equally as good, but in a different way.
JB's production was most interesting in that you felt as though you were looking at the 1800's, as well him being more expressive.
However, BR generally gave greater info on how he arrived at the deductions, and slightly greater depth of the story, many times.

The handsomest of men with a truly arresting voice with perfect diction! This man was a true gentleman and a man literally to die for.

I can’t believe that his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was so long ago. Seems as though it was the other day . . He was great and so were the two actors that played Dr. John Watson: David Burke & Edward Hardwicke. such great productions. . I still watch them on you tube. This made me feel emotional.. .

I met Edward Hardwicke and chatted for a good while with him. Jeremy Brett walked in to say a very quick hello and he was certainly the tall striking eloquent man of the films ...sadly he was suffering from bad nervous health at the time and there was a clear bit of tension between him and Hardwicke which is now well documented in various accounts about his battle with depression. Brett was my Sherlock hero and prob still is.

A Master of his craft. I have watched all other Actors play Holmes, but none greater than Jeremy. I feel Sir Authur Coonan Doyle had Jeremy in mind when he wrote Sherlock. Rip

A wonderful man inside and out, hubby and I had the pleasure of meeting him, what a warm genuine man who made time for all his fans
Jeremy's been gone for 28 years and I'm still saddened every time I think of him leaving us so young. I loved the man and his acting skills. He was an amazing actor, a great singer and a great man. Jeremy was highly educated, was a gentleman, he loved to ride horses, I view him as one of the best 10 actors of all time. I watch his Sherlock Holmes over and over again and I still laugh and cry at his incredible performances. Edward Hardwicke was the perfect Watson and Jeremy the perfect Holmes, they were the best ever to take on those roles. I know Jeremy died of heart failure, I pray he didn't suffer, Edward died of cancer, I hear it can be a painful way to go, I also hope he didn't suffer. I'm going back to watch Granada's Sherlock Holmes now, I'm in the middle of The Last Vampyre, I took a short break to watch a couple videos on Jeremy and Edward. Rest well gentlemen, you are loved by millions.

The Sherlock Holmes adventures he was in are absolute treasures. The quirks, everything was so perfect, I watch them over and over. I still find one I haven't seen before, and it's like a present from the past. In one adventure, the way he says, "Sumatran River Fever", just that is like a jewel. Highest honers to him. He did more than bring the character to life, he performed a sort of miracle. I miss him.

I remember when I heard about his passing, it was a sad, depressing day from that moment forward. I live across the pond from London but, I still have a close connection with the Country and the People. I have all of the Sherlock Holmes DVDs from Granada TV with Jeremy Brett performing the masterpiece of his career, (in my humble opinion) being the soul embodiment of Sherlock Holmes. I still miss him to this day.
Sad and a big loss, both were outstanding actors.
Jeremy was the Sherlock that I visualised when I read all the stories.It's a true wonder.His body language as Holmes is superb.I like his ...Haa... which he utters occasionally.So talented.👍👍👍

How do you know that he is in heaven? If he draggs you into the hell with his other women fans to capture your light ? If after death you find that instead of being in light of God you r languishing in dark hell for him when he is busy in luring other women too to be his victim ? Of course when a man will be busy baiting on crores of his women fans in next world , can't be on path of God to give you people bliss. But Only can drag the souls of each one of you to empower the darkness afterall. Stay away from this dengerous thought and pray your spirit team to protect you from these sort of evil eyes.

Jeremy Brett poured so much into Holmes, it was absolutely heartfelt! What a debt we owe him for that amazing portrayal. But also, I think that may also have been because his personal life was full of some real struggle. He could not openly be who he was, and that must have been indeed, difficult.

Every time a listen to this I love it more and remember when I was lucky enough to see him in "My Fair Lady" at least. I don't know what this music is but it's beautiful and so is he. I'm hearing and loving it now and my day is made worthwhile in a crazy world.
