Never thought squirrels would do that to a kayak. Learned something new today. How to repair holes in a kayak. Great video TJ.

This is another one of those "not if but when" you get a hole in your kayak. Thanks for the demo. Now, I have to go order some of those Gator Patches!

Great Training Video! Question- What is the estimated curing time with the black light? Not holding you to the second, just trying to get an idea.
thank you very much for your response

Great video on showcasing the gator patch... I have one in my kayak for emergency purposes only. It's good to know that it hardens up so quickly... thanks again TJ...

Just curious, for the bigger hole would it had been easier to use a plastic sheet and plastic wield it over?

The Gator Patch product looks excellent, but how well does it hold up over time?
I am curious to know how well the Gator Patch has held up after engagement with the real world., especially the keel application.
I have not found any follow up reviews of the product as a keel protector.
Many folks putting it on their kayak rigs, but nobody coming back with any status reporting about the product.

Ha I got that same plastic welder from Harbor Freight. I've used it to plug screw holes in my kayak after I removed accessories.

After I patch up the kayak, my next trip is to Cabela's or Basspro for a Crossman hunting pellet rifle, bonus I like squirrel on the grill.

Hey TJ, I was wondering if you thing the GatorGuard would work to cover a really big hole? I cut the hole too big when I tried to replaced the round hatch in my hobie outback with a big square hatch in the floor! I was thinking I might use a few large patches to cover it and recut the proper size hole? What do you think?

Nice video! Something I would have gave a look into is feelfree rod holders, the only thing is replacing all four and probably have to to screw them on there but wouldn't be a bad replacement but if gator guard is the way best do that lol

Would like to see if you could install an aftermarket rod holder right in the middle of that patch.

On the larger hole, you covered the gator patch with gator skin; why ? Was it just to make the patch thicker, so he could replace the rod holder? I recently installed the yak attack anchor trolley on my brand new Ascend 12 T & I cut access holes so that I could through bolt the bow & stern trolley pulleys. Does the gator patch work good enough to make a permanent water tight patch? The access holes are on the inside of my boat. Thanks for the great info and videos. Tight Lines 🎣 David H.

Oh, yes! We had snow twice during that week TJ, ... crummy deal about the squirrels, I have squirrels here as well, black ones, & the standard gray ones, ... yours must be part beaver to leave teeth marks like that, ...
Wondering what you are cleaning the area with? Denatured alcohol? The black light should be able to cure the patch in only a couple of minutes, seconds even, ... I’ve used some of the “advertised” glue pens before, & they work awesomely

Gonna get some gator guard/ patch for the future. Everything you use goes up in price! ( Decking sheets). Ever use the plastic welding rods for deep gouges? Polypropylene or hdpe, I'm pretty sure they come in both ways.

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I do use the plastic welding rods, the do great! I actually use them where I work a lot. If you watch my “Kayak Junk Drawer” video, I think I use one a little there too. 🤙🏼

Not kayak related, but a squirrel ate a hole in the top ofmy wellhouse door. I folded chimney flashing over the top of the door, front and back & filled it with expandable foam. The squirrel ate 3 wedges of the flashing off before it gave up!

My problem with this is that the Gator patches are so thin. Being thin means they are susceptible to future punctures.

For reference, if manufactures use certain types of compounds they should add a vermin deterrent to the mix. There was a Native Watercraft Slayer right beside it and they didn’t touch it. Hobie, put an additive in your compound mix to avoid this!!!! (and give me a new Hobie PA 14 360...)

I have an important question for you , I had and loved it for many years ! I still enjoy the outdoors as much as I did when I was younger !
Can you subsets a kayak for an older person , I’m 70 years old , but still very active with some mobility issues ! Tell me what kayak I should look at that would fit the issues that I do have but really want to get back into MY KAYAK ????

Why didn't you simply cut out the rod holders and use add on holders? Would have saved time and looked better cosmetically.
