Lots of videos on the web that tell you how to do it and then stop short of actually showing me how to do it! Thank you for the easy show and tell that actually gave me enough info to try it out on my new R7. Works great and is crazy fast compared to what I thought it was going to be. I haven't combined them in software afterward yet, but will try that next in PS. Appreciate the video and time spent demonstrating.
Macro isn’t really my thing but I look in at your channel from time to time and you always manage to explain things in a clear and concise way! Great images
Thanks for this video. I've been having a hard time deciding where to step into mirrorless. I do a lot of macro so I really really wanted focus bracketing. couldn't find the answer as to which cameras have the feature besides the RP. Wanted the R5 for it's pixel count but was seriously ready to give in and sacrifice pixel count for this feature alone. Some may scoff at that reasoning but the moment you have a living, ready to buzz away at any moment subject and you want to expand depth of field with stacking, you have to do it quickly and accurately. This is the answer and I want it!
Realy good video. Will make it a try since weather in Sweden is not the best for outdoorphotography this weekend. So first focus point is when the subject is just out of focus? (focus just in front of subject) How did you determin if the subject was at 1 to 1 magnification in the frame or not? Cheers //Mikael
Thank you for the informative video, Stewart. I'd like to ask about your workflow for processing a stack of 100+ photos. I've done this quite a bit for smaller numbers of photos by importing the series of RAW photos into Lightroom, using the Open as Layers in Photoshop command, aligning and blending the layers, and then saving the result, which sends a TIFF file back to Lightroom to be edited. Now, admittedly, my computer needs updating, but I find that the process fails if I try to combine more than about 15 RAW files into a TIFF, presumably because the resultant file that's created--maybe more than 4 GB in size--becomes too large for my set-up to process. So, the idea of trying to process 100+ photos is mind-boggling to me, and I can't imagine what the TIFF file size would be. Could you provide some insight about this? Is it a matter of updating my computer, or is that you're actually processing/outputting different file types (e.g., JPG) that are not so processing intensive. If you are indeed using RAW and TIFF, what file size is the resultant TIFF? I'm planning to get the R5, and the Focus Bracketing looks fantastic, but I'm wondering if I'd be able to take advantage of it. Thanks.
The Canon R6 has this feature as well. I have the R5 and R6 and both do focus bracketing. So with the R6, you can focus bracket for less money than the R5 (albeit the R6 is only 20 mp). Nice video BTW, you saved me figuring out how to do it for macro! :0)))
Good video ande beautiful images, Stewart. How many effective shots of the 100 were needed to build the final image. All of them? Cheers from Buenos Aires!
Bonjour Stewart, Tu as acheté l'EOS R5 !? Je viens de recevoir le mien ! Dis moi, pour utiliser cette fonction de Focus Stacking, la mise au point se fait d'avant en arrière ou d'arrière vers l'avant ? Merci pour ta vidéo ! WEIDER.
Hi Stewart, I just purchased the Canon R5 and I do some macro photography. My question is with the in- camera focus stacking do I still need to use a focusing rail? What are your thoughts on this.
Wish the R had this, even though I have the R5 too. Miops has 2 products that could help. 1st is their slider. Takes a shot, moves the camera for a specified # of shots and step distance, pretty precise. The other is Flex, which moves the focus in the lens as opposed to moving the camera. Obviously the slider is for auto or manual focus lenses where as the Flex is only for AF lenses. Both methods are fairly slow, about 1 shot per sec. Another product that seems fast is Helicon FB tube...FB being focus bracketing. Helicon however is located in Ukraine and physical products are currently not available. 📷 My Olympus TG6 does in camera stacking and bracketing in Macro but the stacking is 10 shots max I think
Thank you so much for this, I’m just using an SD card do you think I need a cf express card? It seems to stop after 3-12 photos when I have it set to 30 incriminates . Buffer is showing 54. Any help is appreciated
Hi Stewart. I keep rewinding at 2.14 mins trying to catch the name after dandilion clock. Could you please tell me correct the name. Love your video's.
Hi Steward, just came across your channel. Great video, very easy to follow with the step by step explanation and great photos as a result. One point still preoccupies me. How do you manage that, with automatic focus set, the defined starting point does not shift when you release the shutter? To me, it then always takes another focus point to start. Thanks.
I played your video over several times and, sorry, I couldn't understand what it was that you used as the object to spray water on. I think it was some type of seed? Would love to know.
Great video Stewart, did you use Photoshop to stack the images? It's what I have been using (just started macro) and find that it doesn't always do a good job, resulting in some blurry areas.
@@StewartWoodArt Ah excellent, there's me thinking you returned it because you had issues. A friend has sent his back because of forward focusing issues.
Really need to know how to do the shots much slower so that flash can be used. Every other manufacturer has an option to set the interval between shots. I cannot believe that this isn’t an option in Canon cameras. Surely I just haven’t found the way to do it.
I have the R5 and for some stupid reasons I’ve never used focus bracketing. If someone is asking the why‘s and how‘s i will say „Stewart made me do it“! 😅 So, now I go to the next video where you will tell me why I need a focusing rail! Damn photography… $$$ sucking hobby! 😂 (And Helicon 8 for stacking… argh) 😵💫
Looks like the camera takes more images than needed... with 1x magnification on fullrame and f4 you just need 0,48mm steps - so a distance of 10mm in focus would be covered in 25 shots - nice feature to have in the camera but really cant replace a stacking rail
Shame the R5 doesnt process the bracketed images internally like olympus do, but i guess micro 4:3 has smaller file sizes to deal with. Still, at the R5's price it should have the processing power to do it internally. Looks like I'm staying with the cheaper Sony R series.

Cant wait for that macro rail video, Stewart! Awesome pics, by the way!👍
Thank you.
You have excellent diction. I'm Brazilian and I'm not fluent in English, but I understand you perfectly…. and great video, thanks.
Thank you! 😃
Your breath of knowledge amazes me. Thanks Stewart excellent work.
Thank you.
Hi Stuart Thanks for the video, how did you prevent the camera from auto focusing when you press the shutter?
Thanks
Thank you so much for these inspiring video !
Wondered why it wouldn’t work k on my eosr! Thank you for great tips !😊
Thank you Stewart. Excellent vidoe.
Hello, how did you export the joint image in Lightroom? I can only make a common group out of the picture
Canon gövdelerde Odak tarama yaparken Flash kullanmanın bir yolu var mı ?Mesela multiplus kullanılabilir mi? Olympus sistemlerde kullanılabiliyormuş.
I would like to remote shoot. What would I need to buy to set up the camera to talk to the computer?
If it doesn’t let you set near and far focus points then how does it decide where to start and stop the focus stack?
Cant wait to see a video from you on the 4 way macro focusing rail.
That a beast of a camera mate.
I love it even if it's got issues issues.
I love your bright tecnik ....
Great video…but how do you ensure that the sunflower isn’t also part of the focus stack?
Can this only be done on manual? Or could it be done on AV or Shutter Priority?
Brilliant, thanks.

i thought the same why the RP R6 and R5 and not the R why did I pick the one without it , R5 on pre order

Thank you, the lens has markings on it for the magnification.
Brilliant! Thanks very much. Good teacher!
Thats pretty insane. And I thought the z6 was semi impressive. Mind blown 😳
does this lens have focus breathing ????
Thanks Stewie
one more question, is it just normal water or with some additives to make it more "sticky" to the subject?
Yes, normal tap water.

It’s a salsify seed.
Yes it’s a shame it’s not on the R. I wonder if Canon will include it in a firmware update especially when you consider it’s on the RP.
I don't think they will :(
I'm glad Canon released the significantly better RF 100 2.8
I ned to try that lens :)

Hell no lol
@@NickHansonPhotography Helicon focus 8 is amazing for focus stacking it can handle hundreds of images and results are outstanding :)
Hi Stewart, to clarify when you click the shoot button, it starts at the point of focus and then away ?
Great video btw
Yes mate
@@StewartWoodArt NO it doesn't it will first focus when you release the shutter for the first picture. that is the problem
Did you try this with your jumpers?
I'm afraid not, I didn't have enough time with the camera. Maybe in a future video :)
Sad to see you have to send back the R5. Do you plan to upgrade any time soon ? I would love to see those R5 tutorials coming... :)
Not any time soon.
@@StewartWoodArt May i ask why you sent the R5 back, i'm looking to upgrade from the 7d11 and have chosen the R5 over over the 1dx mk111?
It wasn’t mine, I borrowed it.

Ha Ha Ha, you don't need a focusing rail. I do most of my stacking handheld now

You can set the number of images from 2 - 999. If more shots are taken then required that is the choice of the operator, not the camera.
It's cheats like wallhack in CS GO :D
I have 77d, I need 90d to make it like U.

Why don't you use a wider aperture and you'll take a MUCH SMALLER amount of pictures!??!!
A smaller aperture works better for focus stacking in this situation.
