Introducing Bajaj Qute
India’s First Auto-Taxi Is Here
Qute is the first quadricycle of India. It is also the first 4-wheeler designed for first and last mile transportation. Hence, it is light weight, has a small footprint making it fuel efficient and easy to drive even on congested roads. Qute is indeed an idea whose time has come.
Qute has got the ARAI approval after meeting the Indian Quadricycle norms. Incidentally, they are more stringent than the European Quadricycle norms. It has also got the European WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) certification awarded by RDW Netherlands.
A Quadricycle, globally is a 4-wheel motor vehicle with less power and a much lower maximum speed than a conventional small car. Quadricycles have existed for about 3 decades in Europe. They officially became a new class of vehicles known as “low speed vehicle” in the US in 1998 and in Canada in 2000. There are over 3,00,000 quadricycles running in Europe.
Qute with a kerb weight of 451 kg, maximum speed of 70 km/h, maximum engine output of 8.08 kW and a seating capacity of D+3 meets the Indian Quadricycle norms.
Qute is designed for the Intra City travel. It relieves cities from congestion, pollution and danger that big, heavy and fast cars inflict on it. Qute, unlike cars, is no threat to pedestrians, cyclists and 2-wheeler riders who represent the vast majority of casualties on road.
HIGHLY FUEL EFFICIENT
Qute has a higher fuel efficiency of 43 km/kg* - at least 65% more than the most popular small car. It has a 4-valve water cooled DTSi engine with closed loop fuel injection system. The engine is 216 cc and is light weight.
Problems Faced By me
1. Regulator
After driving the qute for around 10000kms this problems arised.There was a lot of starting problems due to this faulty device.The showroom people could not diagnose it problem and they blamed it entirely on the battery.Due to this i had to replace the battery which was in a good condition.After replacing the battery the problem persisted and now they diagnosed it correctly and showroom people charged me around 1800 for the replacement regulator.After 2 year the showroom people called up once again and replaced the regulator for free(provided by bajaj company)So huge loss for me due to non-trained staff.
2.Fuel Guage
The digital fuel guage was found faulty after 4 months of purching the vehicle.The fuel guage was always showing full.They set it right during the initial stage but it malfunctioned once again after a few months.Show room people could not set it right and now its showing full all the time.
3.TowingHook
Due to the malfunctioning of fuel guage i had a problem of empty fuel tank.As this is a Lpg only model the refilling station was around 15 kms .Lucking my friend came to my rescue.But there was no provision of a towing hook underneath to latch on to.I had to tie the rope to the front axle on the right front side of the vehicle.I had a very difficult time due to this issue.
4.Doors
The doors are not that heavy and during rainy season they are very difficult to open.They need constant adjustments during every service visits to the showroom .Sometimes the doors unlock by themselves during a bumpy ride.
5.Rear Seats
The rear seats can be bent for additional boot space .The seats are divided into two with 4 latches .We have to struggle hard in order to open these latches as they are very tight.Moreover these latches make a lot of noises during a bumpy ride.
6.Windows
These windows are sliding in nature and cause lot of problems in case you want to peep outside to reverse the vehicle.
7.Poor Finishing Metal edges
These metal edges throughout the vehicle are prone to rusting.
8.Poor Seats
These seats are not at all comfortable in nature .A bucket seat with head rest would have been a better option.
Petrol : 35 km/L* CNG : 43 km/kg* Lpg : 25 km/kg*
*As per our testing conditions
My Quadricycle gives me a mileage of 22-23km /kg under variable speed.and 25 km/kg at a constant speed of 50 km/hr.
Price On Road :Petrol Around 3.10, Lpg & Cng - 3.43 - 3.70 -on road.
We need more ''cars'' like this in Europe!!!
Two very relevant things that are missing for current times: ABS and Airbags. If Bajaj equips the Qute with these safety features, it will definitely capture more markets.
As a motorcycle, is the safetest of all.

I think they should use the Dominar 400 engine for better power and torque for 4 ppl on board, and climbing hilly roads
I drove the qute in the steepest of hills with 4 people onboard.absolutely no problem.Pickup is very good.
