I can't understand why they would say spit guards are too degrading. It's degrading to be spat on. If it is degrading to wear one, wouldn't that deter you from spitting on people and needing them?

@@mymyMelly As a serving copper, having narrowly missed being spat on, it's pretty disgusting. spit hoods are rarely used and are only used in custody in the force I'm in, they are also not as common as they used to be. People complain about breaching the human rights of those arrested, but ultimately they can still breathe and can still speak, and hear what is going on around them. Having a spit hood put on their head is no more of a breach of their human right than it is to remove their liberty by arresting them. It's also interesting to note that people that harp on about spit hoods being a breach of human rights, seem to forget that those that wear the uniforms, and are often subject to verbal and physical abuse, including being spat at, or physically attacked with extreme violence, have human rights too. Although of course, nobody gives a damn about us and seem to forget this.

They were very respectful to the perpetrator. Once he spat at the officer he lost the right to have his head uncovered. Just wearing the spit guard wasn't disrespectful, it was self protection. Do that in the US you will come to the station with bruises and bleeding from self defense by the officers. I wish the US was a country that didn't rely on guns for everything.
