    Longtime Memphian here. 1. No, you don't need half a day to see the civil rights museum. You can get through it and see everything thoroughly within two hours at most. 2. Be very very careful on Beale Street. If you get off the beaten path at night or in dark areas you will likely get robbed. 3. Big River Crossing is nice if you walk or run. You can also rent a bike. It's not very scenic but it's great for exercise in spring or fall. 4. The Zoo is definitely worth it. As the narrator says, it's one of the best.

      Even though Memphis is famous, many Americans have never visited because it’s geographically so far from the East and West coast. To get their you would normally have to travel by airplane. …..Another reason why many Americans have never visited is because there’s not much in the surrounding areas. It’s mostly rural areas

    this is the BEST video I've ever seen or could imagine for Memphis. I lived there during its PEAK (1991 - 1993) and absolutely loved it. When I went back and visited last year, my heart was broken to see the ghetto dump it is now. Thank you for this wonderful video. It is everything that is great and could've helped make the city into the capital of the south. It brought back such nice memories.

    I will correct one thing… I had to spend my whole day on the civil rights museum. That place is so well done and will affect you so very much. I was useless the rest of the day… I don’t see how half a day is even enough it’s a big museum and it’s so well done!!! I’m a huge Elvis fan and always go to memphis for Graceland and Elvis events but I’m so glad I went to the civil rights museum. It’s amazingly well done. Also sun studios is a very fun tour. All the tour guides are great! ❤ be careful in memphis at night. Know your surroundings.

      @Michael A Memphis is not a crap hole, if you choose to be like this you can find something bad about every city, Memphis isn’t perfect sure, with the crime, some events that happened, and the amount of homeless people/ beggars. But we have great food, events, and your experience can vary based on where you go, most of the touristy stuff is in downtown, but a bunch of the things locals do aren’t in downtown

  • @jennyepling4604

    The Memphis Botanic Gardens is pretty and in summer has music. There’s free shows at the Levitt Shell sometimes. The Brooks Art Museum and the metal museum are interesting as well as the Pink Palace and children’s museum (last 2 especially if you have kids)… Then there’s the Cooper Young area with a cool vibe and restaurants that sometimes have music and Overton Square which has restaurants and the railgarten. There of course is the Orpheum for broadway shows and performances. People in Memphis tend to like food and live music. :) Also for an unique experience Elmwood Cemetery is pretty cool if you like history.

    Having lived in Memphis for a significant part of my life, just want to say you covered it well and in a positive light. Might have been a bit too kind to Mud Island as it tends to be a huge let down to most and usually poorly maintained. But everything else you hit right on. The only other place I would have included is the Pink Palace Museum which is the former mansion of the guy who started Piggly Wiggly. Great job - especially on the zoo!

      @@charlesdegraffenreaid8311 A couple of things: 1. A rename is desperately needed. 2. The city needs to do a better job of maintenance. 3. There used to be several restaurants that brought the locals over...they're long gone. 4. There needs to be attractions like Chicago's Navy Pier on the island to regularly attract tourists and residents alike. I think a big ferris wheel near the tip would be great!!!

    Hey there, born and raised in Memphis, your last destination, the crystal shrine grotto has SO MANY MORE secrets and features that I bet not nearly anyone knows about, my father has worked at memorial park for many years and he grew up in Memphis. For starters, the fountain outside the grotto has faces built into the base that you can spot looking from the ancient log crypt. Next to that crypt to the top left of the concrete, is a depiction of jesus laying down (like him in the tomb I assume) that’s built straight into the rock! Sort of hidden unless you stand on top of the tomb. Also the tree that was man made from the same special material created for the entire grotto. The grottos granite and quarts was made from materials sourced from Arkansas and the composite used to make the entire thing is still a trade secret to this day. Also if you noticed as you exited the grotto to the left there seemed to have been a pedestal for something, and being that Memphis is Memphis, someone stole the giants quartz I believe. Note: I will re-edit this comment after conferring with my father who is probably the only man that works at memorial park who knows anything about all of this.

    I can't believe you didn't mention the Pink Palace (they're calling it the "Memphis Museum of Science and History", but we all know it's The Pink Palace), the Botanical Garden, The Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic art in the downtown area, (a small, affordable and filled to the brim with beautiful Asian artifacts); there's also The Broom Closet and Lucyja Hygge, if you're into the metaphysical (or just like beautiful crystals and a good vibes). There's an Asian store, too, called Viet Hoa Market, where you can get Asian exports, and a car museum called Edge Motor Museum (I've never been but it has good reviews).

      Is Memphis really that bad?

    • @ericksoteloortiz8412
      @ericksoteloortiz8412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@craigm3994 it’s horrible. Downtown Memphis is 5 minutes away in any direction from the ghetto. Be careful with Beale street once it gets dark and if you carry your wallet mark sure you keep it in your from pocket. It’s not safe what so ever. It’s just highlighted because of how much money business owners have put into it.

      It’s a dangerous city and don’t trust anyone even the homeless and yourself because the city is now turned into a wasteland of crime and you can’t enjoy nothing in Memphis because of shootings, Car theft, robbery, kidnappings, school shootings, the heat, dumb drivers, potholes, and drugs so it’s best not to travel in Memphis because if you do you will be back home with nothing and the police won’t do nothing

    All cities have crime. Turn the news on when you vacation and it’s wherever you go. Nashvegas isn’t much better a few streets good and then you are in shady areas a lot of bigger cities are that way. The Botanic Gardens have a big display of Alice in Wonderland made all of flowers until October. These sculptures are huge! In all travels you should be aware of your surroundings and take precautions. Thanks for the video!

    Just visited, if you’re thinking about it, go to Beale Street for a day and that’s it, lots of homeless and prostitution. It was never as crowded like in video, not safe after 10 pm. Lots of useless police playing on there phone. The rest of Memphis was awesome. Nashville was a million times better. BTW when I go on vacation I never complain. Just wasn’t happy with downtown Memphis.

    lol every city has crime just stay away. I’m not from Tennessee I’m from Mississippi but I moved to Memphis been here for the last 30 years. Never been carjacked,robbed,in a fight,not even an argument,and I go to a lot of bars downtown. Theirs no place else I’ll rather be. And I’ve been to a lot of cities.
