Looks better than when I left it over thirty years ago! The problem is capitalism, it uses everything up, including the people, and leaves ruins in its wake.
My grandparents were immigrants from Eastern Europe. They settled in Chester, PA, bought a small little rowhouse and raised my Mom and my Aunt. Back in the day there were a few factories along the riverfront in Chester. Used to make things and pack them right onto ships that sailed down the Delaware bay to anywhere in the world. Some of the buildings are still there ...empty. My grandfather worked at an industrial plant that made ball bearings. He used to walk to work each day. There was work available so many immigrant communities settled there. Like many places in America, Chester started to deteriorate when those factories all shut down. Any type of economic stability left along with them. Blight inevitably settles in. The Philadephia Union soccer team plays in a beautiful little stadium in Chester. It's a great arena to watch sports. I've seen Rugby tournaments there. Other than that stadium there has been no economic development in Chester. The crime now is very bad. Hard to attract investment

So many American towns are dying.. why? Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1972, Reganomics showed Wall Street new ways to steal, wage stagnation was a hip new trend, and hospitals learned they made more money running as a for profit publically traded corporation.. hospital chains started to grow.. bill clinton allowed china to enter into the wto and we lost all our manufacturing.. what followed was the age we allowed monopolies to form and all the ma and pa stores to be purchased and shut down.. then the price gauging commenced.. and now we die..

America needs to reinvest in itself. Our infrastructure is crumbling. We have unlimited money to send to Ukraine, but none to maintain our beautiful country. Hopefully it'll change with Trump , he's America First.
We have unlimited funds for our military. In 2023, the U.S. spent $916 billion on its military, which was more than 40% of the world's total military spending. This was more than the next nine countries combined. What would happen if we spent 1/2 of the for the next 4 years and maybe even get some accountability for what they are spending it on.

Great video about Chester. I live up the street in Ridley Park. Your channel is awesome! Been following since day 1. This info for your brother. I got off of Suboxone about a year ago. Was on it 10 years. Was down to 1milligram. And it was brutal! I hear you can walk off a sunlicade shot but I don't know anyone who has. Hit me up with any questions. Chester is a city not a town. Huge industrial town back in the 20s to the 50s. Sun built ships on the Waterfront.
In the past, Chester was so important, especially to ship building the US Navy commissioned two Cruisers in it's name USS Chester CA-1, a light cruiser, and CA-27 a heavy Northampton class in use thoughout WW2 with 11 battle stars.
Dying ??? Nah that city has been dead, sadly I was born and raised in Chester. But it was collapsing way back in the 80's, I don't think it really survived the crack era. I seen a lot of people leave that neighborhood during the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's for more thriving, safer, economic prosperous neighborhoods. Especially the youth (at that time) like myself and people around my age who were looking for better environments to thrive in, we had to leave that place in order to really make a future for ourselves.
It sad but the city has potential. I have worked with Chester Housing Authority some of the buildings you are showing have been replaced and upgraded. We really need to reinvest in these places! It was once a very lucrative industrial area, Bolt Anchor and Chain, Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock all good paying jobs. I hope it comes back!

More Americans were homeless this year compared with 2023 as families continued struggling to afford rent and other basic necessities, federal officials announced Friday. Across the U.S., more than 771,800 people lived without housing in 2024, according to a count taken annually on a single night in January. The number for January 2024 is 18.1% higher than in 2023, when officials counted about 650,000 people living in homeless shelters or in parks and on streets. In 2022, the population of people experiencing homelessness was about 580,000. "The numbers are just mind-boggling to me," Ann Oliva, CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, told USA TODAY.
The ones that you see right now. Where there's a bunch of rollholes. Would windows boarded up? They're not condemned? They haven't boarded it, so nobody breaks into them and use them as trap houses. That is a low-income live in area. That's the Bennett. My mom lived there upon a top of the hill. She died there from cancer. On top of the hill on valenton terrace, that's the bennett
As a resident of Chester... We are not a dying town. Yeah we took a hit with the loss of industry. But we have people in place in town hall that actually care about the city. People who work together to build up our city. We don't need anymore "Chester is shit" talk. We are rebuilding. We are a close community that works for our children to have better. Every town has issues. That doesn't make us a "shit, dying town".
Between 2021 and 2022 the population of Chester, PA grew from 32,819 to 33,048, a 0.698% increase. That is the literal definition of a dying town. It’s “growth” is slower than almost anywhere in America. I started a fact not an opinion. Thanks for watching

They're not boarded up. They're just do not being taken down. They're bordered out, so nobody breaks into them. And that's not the mecha, that's the Bennett. I know that's where my mom lived for before. She died in the house up there
I would go onthe bus with my mother to go shopping there in the late 50's/early 60's
Good morning, Jeff watching your video, I must say your information on Chester is not spot on, If you get a chance to come back, hit me up and I’ll give you a real tour of the beauty Chester has to offer.
Please do a video on the cities of Pittsburgh, if you already haven’t
Chester is blighted; however, Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden NJ is something quite unique.
Looks clean at least
I used to spend my summers in Chester, upland and 3rd streets, that was in the 1970s and it was dying then, but beautiful memories.
My family’s are from Chester and Marcus Hook Pennsylvania, the Thorntons and Guitarres
Census in the mid 60’s was over 100,000 residents you had multiple manufacturing jobs , Automotive plants
Did the video get cut off or was Jeff too high on life to end it like that?
My father grew up in Philly. His friends would all go to Chester to see live music ( Bill Haley, Temptation, etc) because no clubs in Philadelphia. Only corner bars
Bill Haley lived only 20 minutes from chester
Watching in California ☀️🌴💚
Love yours tours Jeff... but man they can be sad to see sometimes.
The condition of America and mostly small towns with no accident it’s part of the plan
We all know it’s homie central . Yo yo yo
@@christopherkyle5639 What else do "we" know homie?
Deshon Park and museum
The ones that you see right now. Where there's a bunch of rollholes. Would windows boarded up? They're not condemned? They haven't boarded it, so nobody breaks into them and use them as trap houses. That is a low-income live in area. That's the Bennett. My mom lived there upon a top of the hill. She died there from cancer. On top of the hill on valenton terrace, that's the bennett
chester been dead for 40 years my guy😂
