"your religion is privatized, a Sunday [only] rite" -- that is the result of Enlightenment influence, not something that is inherent in the Christian tradition.

When he was describing Schmitt’s theory I though he would say liberalism.

What underlying unity is there between Christology and Islam? This Anglican priest helps to explain why the Church of England is so weak and irrelevant and not even able to defend the exclusive claims of Christ against the challenge of Islam.

In very strange twist, apparently Chinese communists party is exceedingly interested in the philosophy of this man. After learning about him I can see how some parts (criticism of liberalism) can be convenient to them.
Still other parts must be really repugnant to them. How can they make peace with his understanding of the divine and Christianity?
Surely they transform it in their minds into something else. I would be very interested how and into what.

My understanding of Lenins philosophy is that the Party is understood as the divine authority on all matters concerning the revolution as it leads the working class in the class struggle. That could explain the strong strangehold held by the Chinese Communist party over the country and political life.

@Accelerationist That is what I believe too. But still, they are faithful to some previous principles, including their relationship to anything spiritual or religious seeing as poison to the mind.

    • @petrskupa6292
      @petrskupa6292 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Accelerationist Kinda, more like neutral - some with traditional and conservative vibes had close ties with conservative versions of religion or at least put front of being on good terms (not only Franco, Salazar, Pinochet ... You can count here current Putin as well), others were in the other side of spectrum, Hitler - was actually anti-christian in secret but with occultistic vibes.
Communists , all sorts of them were absolutelly vocal in antireligious stance. Not pasdively “secular” in terms of leaning, more like actively anti-religious.

The Chinese Communist Party acts more like a quasi-fascist (in the original sense of the word referring to the fusion of state and the corporate) than a communist party. This happened during the Deng Xiaoping era which was the reason why the West believed China would be accepted in the international community with open arms. The West is realizing they made the wrong bet as it is still authoritarian. The CCP under Xi is increasingly becoming more involved in the meddling of their mercantile sectors to their economy but thats from a purely disciplinary role in case any executives begin to call on things that resemble democracy. Democracy in the West is the ultimate good akin to a holy virtue but democracies are a modern organizational structure that has in the past always fallen into ruin (funny no one mentions that part). The reality is the CCP has turned to Schmitt because Schmitt made no bones about his diagnosis of politics which his assertions and observations were just observations of realities in the human condition. Things like sovereignty, the friend enemy distinction, etc. As for Christianity, they simply replaced the figure with Mao and the playbook that is preached today is Nationalism as Nationalism in modern times is the strongest of political ideologies.

@@doh917 Thank You. Interesting. Structurally responding to my query...
I’d only polemize about the “no one mention that” ... I just think that it generally wide spread knowledge that the previous, old models of democracy failed. It actually was the basis for all the philosophers for long centuries believing that democracy is unworkable.
The difference, in my take, is that founding fathers of American Democracy (and in extension of all modern democracies) were well studied in that matter and quite in particular, with many arguments for and against. The new form of democracy is no more “direct democracy “ as in the past. It is representative democracy with international checks and balances... and even though it failed to some extent in some countries in the world over the decades and globe, generally speaking it is quite success if you look at the stability statistically! :-)

The way we address political theology is to keep our governments secular. Ts admitedly hard to do because religious hatred is the most powerful weapon on earth. Great religious bigots like Carl Schmitt, man's enemy, the enemy of the good, like the plague, never entirely disappear.

I just have start to lessen it, England is the worse combination of political and religion attributes, English society still thinks they are superior, and is the ugly place on the planet. It is no hope for the English system, I do hope England steps out from EU, because England is not part of any interaction movement, to live in England as a foreigner can be an extremely traumatic experience, also besides the fact that right now the minister become a Hero, just because he has admitted Panama Papers involvement. It is another shame for the country.
The good thing is, we have Ireland, much more smart, much more realistic and humanized than England, England is a lost society based on power. Can you remember what England did for Ireland, less than 100 years a go, here is the Irish answer:
Ireland is much smarter and productive.
I refuse to lessen to Carl Schmitt mixed up with a English environment.
