I am now 60 years old. I was 8 or 9 when this book came out and it was so unlike anything else out at the time. No other book talked about periods and all the other important things we girls would go through. Then, when I was in high school, Judy Blume wrote Forever and it changed how I felt about boys/dating as a teen. Loved that movie with Stephanie Zimbalist and so glad they are FINALLY making this movie, and like a lot of you so glad they are keeping the 1970s setting.
I am 51 years old, and I remember signing this book out from the library over and over again. My mind was blown, because this book was a far cry from the Ramona books by Beverley Cleary; no disrespect to her. This book resonated with me, and a lot of my peers. I am glad they are making it into a movie, because this book has been banned in Florida, and is set to be banned in other states of the union. At the very least, you know kids will be streaming this movie on their devices Thanks to Ms. Blume for all the books she has written over the years.
Im 64,my friends and i devoured this book! Every page hecame precious to us. I eill certainly be thinking of annie and martha ehen i watch 5his movie! Would not miss it tor the world!!
My mom unfortunaely passed away from brain cancer last year but I disctinctly remember her excitedly buying me this book and having me read when I was a kid in the 2000s just as she did in the 70s. I know we would be watching this together if she was still here, so I'm sure I will for her when this comes out.
i know your pain thanks to biden bringing covid into this country i have last loved one to that and cancer, my uncle was shaving when he noticed his eyes had a yellow tinge to them, he went for an exam one doctor told him he needed a liver trans plant the second doctor told him there's no hope stage 4 cancer. now my uncle lived his life drinking, and he tolerated no shit he was eternally faithful to his wife in fact one evening a woman came up and tried to get him interested unlike most he slammed her against the wall and warned her never to come near him again. i had an argument with my aunt because im a believer and i dint want a priest walking in there lying to him and claiming the power to forgive sins, i sent another in my place, during my uncles life he loved to fish and hunt, but as he breathed his last the property around his house and farm an invasion took place we were surrounded by huge Bucks and does of every size 100s of them, making it dangerous to even step out the door but the Bucks weren't being territorial they were friendly and seemed gentle, i believe these animals were paying tribute to him, he was dead within 6 months of his diagnosis, others followed him
I do that for my sister who passed away some years ago. The first two years were really hard, but then I just started to do fun stuff in her name, dedicated to her, from time to time, and it's wonderful. She was a force of nature. Like a love to go to the ocean in the beginning of Summer and have a good swim "this one is for Joana" for example. Or buying good oil crayons (she was an artist) at a art shop. Or dance to a really good song ❤. I am sorry for your mom. The internet is this strange world, because I am not American and never heard of this book. But when I will go watch it, your story and your mother excited for you to read it, will stick with me. 💖
Sorry about your mom. My Father died when i was 10. He wrote a essay on Lizzie Borden his opinion is that we're all in on it. It does.explain why that all sounds suspicious. I looked at the case for a good while too.
As a black girl born in the 70s, I was an outcast sometimes because I loved to read. Beverly Clearly, Judy Blume, and Encyclopedia Brown was everything to me. Books kept me out of the bad elements around me.
Me too. I am a 51 year old black woman, and reading was my saviour. I would spend countless hours in my high school library reading anything of interest which includes Judy Blume books.
I would have loved to be your friend! I am a '71 baby and loved to read so much. Beverly Cleary, Jude Blume and Encyclopedia Brown. Also was into Nancy Drew and Hardy boy books
Born in 66. My first real book I remember reading was Anne of Green Gables, but my favorite author was Judy Blume. It really looks like the casting and screenwriting is really well done. I remember sneaking into my Mom’s room and read her Erma Bombeck paperback. And she had “Wifey” by Judy Blume:) Wow!
Oh my goodness me too. I lived at the library and it became my best friend. I love “Are you there God It’s me Margaret” so much that when I was in my 30’s (57 now) I bought the book again just to read it all over again and share with my daughters. It’s a timeless classic.
Not me getting a midlife crisis realizing suddenly watching this, I'm not the girl in the book now I'm just the mom trying to keep it all together while my daughter starts figuring out life and I'm freaking out..send help
I picked up this book in the fifth grade. I had read all the "Fudge" books by Judy Bloom so I just naturally picked up the next one. The confusion on one girls face in my class as to why I (a boy) was reading this book about a girl getting her period (unbeknownst to me) was hilarious. As I am reading I get to THE part and went to my mother and asked, "what's a period?" Being the kind and gentle woman that she was told me all about puberty and even bought me a book on it. That was quite the education day.
Another guy here, watching the scene of the sex ed lecture did the one the boys were getting from the coach over in the gym while the girls were in the auditorium pop into as sharp focus for you as it did for me?
what did you think about girls when you read it? as a girl, I thought all the girls were really dumb, and if boys read this book, they must think we were all really dumb because we were portrayed as idiots in the book.
This Judy Blume book resonated so loudly w me. I was a late “blumer” and everyone else got all of their changes in elementary. I didn’t until Jr High. I stuffed, lied bc I felt so abnormal! Lol! I’m now 53, menopausal & ended up getting a breast augmentation. Now, for a young girl who badly wanted to start her cycle, mine has finally ceased 5 yrs ago! And, for wanting breasts that were larger, I wish I could have them removed. We all go through seasons & cycles. It’s odd how we end up abhorring the very things we thought we wanted so desperately. Someone should write a sequel for all of us “Blumers” who are now menopausal:)
Ha! Ha! I can relate. I was late as well...14 when I received "everything" and I was a part of the itty bitty titty committee. Asked my doctor when will it stop and she said I could be well into my 50s! My jaw dropped LOL October I'm finally 50 so we'll see!
I was 15 years old and I didn't feel abnormal because 15 is late yes but it is not completely unusual, if I didn't by 15 plus then I would feel abnormal.
Me too, lol. My closest friends and I created a club like in the book. Unfortunately, they all developed before me. By the time we were in Junior High, some of us grew apart. Just 2 of us still told each other when we got our periods. The end of innocence.
I’m glad that Margaret, her Mom and Grandma are close especially when Margaret’s and her Mom went shopping 🛍 to buy her a bra especially the sales clerk suggests Gro-Bra. Jennydebrier
I remember (many moons ago) when my cycle started... My aunt sent me a care package with a training bra, a box of pads, a box of chocolates, and this book... When my daughter started her period, I did the same for her... I can't wait to go see this with my sister, my daughter, and my best friend... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
With everything going crazy in the world, it is such a true delight to see this wonderful book made into a movie. What a wonderful thing to look forward to. Cannot wait to see this!
I'm honestly surprised that a movie version of this book doesn't already exist. But I guess it's time. LOL I'm here for it. I remember reading this in fifth grade. Such a good book for young girls to read and realize that all the weirdness they are going through is normal. It will definitely be a good film viewing for today's middle schoolers and for all the millennials, Xillennials and gen-Xers who grew up with the book.
Considering the content and who runs Hollywood, I guess it’s not surprising … but that’s what indie companies are for!! Now I’m wishing there was a 90s version too …
dont care for these atheist movies that have those wondering if there is a God! the Rainbow belongs to God even if sodomites have tried to make it a Symbol of perversion! its an actual and ligament not man made but a real symbol of his mercy and presence. the Rainbow surrounds Gods Throne and after the rain has purified the air the rainbow appears. so when you see a rainbow keep two things in mind when you see a rainbow it's a sign that he is near 2nd it's a sign of his mercy on those who choose him and Judgement on those who reject him, so how much do you love your children, do you care enough to pull them out of the fire! consider that society that a perverse government is hell bent on the destruction of real believers, the tyrant in office has declared war on the actual Bible believing churches and our children! by lifting up sodomy giving sodomites the right to walk into any church and defile our sanctuaries and desecrate our altars with the abominable and perverse act of sodomite pretend unions! God will never bless something he promises to canst into the lake of fire, be aware and see the world through a believer's eyes jaylecia when you step out your front door picture a minefield with deadly mines each one specifically designed for your destruction, they look enticing and desirable, they are in the shapes of family friends and objects of deep desire they are designed to hold you in place/ spin you in circles and rip away your dreams, and the only way to disarm them is through the blood of Christ! the only way safely through the minefield is by holding the hand of Christ! its as simple as the blink of an eye, Christ has put you in a position to keep these baby sheep safe and heavenly eyes are on you, lead the flock entrusted to you away from darkness because even the children of Sodom and Gomorrah burned with them, its time for your light to shine and with the real Christ beside you nothing can rip away your salvation, if you choose him!
@@tooldog5062 tldr. Also what does the rainbow or “sodomites” have to do with “Are you there God? It’s me Margret” it’s a book about girl adolescence. If your mad because she questions if God is there, get over it? People are allowed to wrestle with their faith. It wasn’t until Jacob wrestles with God that he stepped into his power and was renamed Israel.
The scene towards the end with the male cashier reminds me of the first time I purchased a bra on my own. Out of all the registers in the store only one was open and operated by a male cashier who looked like he was around my age. I had a bunch of sets I had found on a clearance rack for like $2+ each and accepted that if I wanted them I would have to go to that cashier. So I plopped the items up on the counter pretending to busy myself with something just wanting to cash out and the dude was like "oh, that's a really good deal". Ha ha ha. Looking back on it all these years later I'm like "I wish I would have known then what I known now", because me these days would have just totally started making conversation like "yeah, for that price I might as well stock up on a few", or something like that. All that unnecessary shame.
this book means so much to me. When my mom first showed it to me, she seemed so happy and joyful that i finally got to read it (i was 10 ish maybe younger and im 16 now) and i’ve never ever forgotten that book and how much it impacted me. It not only represents the transition from child to young adult beautifully, but it represents the evolution of a mother daughter relationship as the years go on. People can’t live forever, but the emotions that come about when i read this book make me feel like i’ll never die. Thank you so much Judy Blume❤️
Dang, about time! My mom, who grew up in the ‘70’s-80’s reading this book, and passed it down to me, who grew up in the 90’s-00’s. If I have a daughter, I hope to pass it down to her one day, just as my mom did, and to one day share this film with them both. Many emotions 💙
I just saw this movie last night. Fans of the book will definitely love this movie. It’s a charming crowd-pleaser that tackles the complexities of womanhood, religion, and puberty in a respectable manner. One of my favorite movies of the year!
I am 54 years old and have fond memories of being 12 and reading this book with my 10 year old cousin. I loved it because we were going through it at the same time. It was 1980. Bless youvJudy Bloom for making us young girls feel as normal as we could!
Saw this last night and I cannot remember the last time I saw a movie in a theater that was such a joy to watch. I teared up. And laughed. A lot. Never a dull moment. Planning on taking my mom and sisters to see it together for mother's day.
Studios weren't interested in the book and Blume is concern about the way Hollywood adapts books to movies which is why he rejected the offer for 50 years
Good writing can make books feel timeless … I mean clothing and other fads change throughout the decades, but we as humans pretty much stay the same. I mean it really doesn’t matter if a 13 yr old girl is reading the book in 1970 or 2020. All the thoughts and feelings are still there. Two other books really come to mind that really feel timeless to me and those are “Little Women”. and “Catcher In the Rye.” … If you haven’t read those books, I can’t recommend them enough! As a side note, I have seen every tv and screen version of “Little Women” and I have no idea why they keep failing. I guess the book is so good that nothing else can compare. … And this last version, the one everyone was so crazy about was the worst! Why can’t Jo be a feminist AND want a loving husband?? Lots of feminists throughout history married adoring men who supported them as equals! What is so wrong with that? Sorry! I didn’t mean to go off on a tangent
@@rachel-in-the-208 i would have loved a catcher in the rye film, it’s sad that the author never wanted a movie to be made about it. i agree about the little women adaptations not living up to the book, i never liked any of them either!
@@rachel-in-the-208but Jo does marry in the meta story of the movie, the “author” who doesn’t marry is supposed to be Louisa may Alcott who legit doesn’t marry irl
The movie does not disappoint. I saw it last night and it's about as true to the book as it can be. This movie was well done and brought back a lot of memories. I read it when I was 7 and again when I was 12. I'm 35 now and so happy with how they went about it
My second favourite movie of the year, I absolutely adore this movie. I wish it was released near the Oscar season so that Kelly Fremon Craig could get a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination
I haven’t read the book, but thanks to Rachel McAdams I’m very much looking forward to watching this movie! It’s so sad that she’s very rare on the screen since pandemic started. We so much want to see MORE of her! ❤
The best read next to the Bible as a Lil Girl for me!! I love this story All her books are AWESOME! Born in the 70's were the best and my sisters and our friends had the best time ever!! Our children did too! Thank God they experienced our fun before the world changed OUTDOOR FUN 😒 The kids nowadays missing out so. Let's pray for the world. God will hear us all and He knows our struggle. Be blessed and safe ALL. Enjoy the movie 😘
Back in the 70s, this book was life to me. It was so relatable and helped me through the most awkward time in my life. Bless you Judy Blume!!! I cannot count how many times I read this book. 😊
I'm a 53 year old woman and read this book in the early 80s as a 12-13yr old. Have just seen the film at the cinema and what a fabulous film. Very funny but emotional and thought provoking too. Highly recommended.
My mom had me read the book when I was in the 4th grade in 2006. I loved it so much that I read it twice. Until I saw the trailer I didn't know it was set in the 70's. It was so relatable that I never even considered the time period. My mom and I can't wait to see this!!
I don't think I have EVER been more excited than I am at this very moment to watch a movie that made a HUGE impact on my childhood! This book has played such an instrumental role in my GenX years!
I'm not a child of the 70s, born in early 1988, but my mother was and a teen. Man, even just seeing Rachel McAdams playing the mother, truly drives home that time is just a rolling!
I really hope they do this justice this was one of my faves growing up. I remember checking it out from the library 😍Judy Blume has so many great books. I actually want to reread the book now at 42 going on 43 just for the nostalgia and child like innocence❤️
@@jenniferhansen3622 yes I may need to grab a copy from somewhere and do the same before I watch the movie. I already put my husband on notice he’s watching it with me lol
@@godschosen1213 My almost 12 year old daughter and I are going to read the book together and then go see the movie together! When I put it on hold on Libby I was fifth in line and I just realized today that I'm first in line so I should get it any day now.😊
I remember reading this and for the first time a book kept me up all night. It explained what young girls are going through and was very relatable. So happy they are making a movie about it. I think this would be good for young men too as it would help understand how girls go through adolescence.
Hey as a male....I just saw this movie last night. I loved it, too! The 70s was my growing-up decade and this movie was like a time machine! Highly Recommended.
"and introducing Abby Ryder Fortson" We do know that Fortson appeared as Cassie Lang in the MCU as a little girl, and now she's all grown up and she'll star in the film adaptation of Judy Blume's coming-of-age novel.
2 Peter 1:16. For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. I was an atheist till I was 28 years old. That was 3 years ago. God has helped me when it was bad. When you see signs and wonders, experience miraculous healings, read God's Word with the quidance of The Holy Spirit, maintain a relationship with The Lord, hear other testimonies, witness Catholic Exorcism and experience similar things then you know the Truth that there is God and the Scripture is truly God's Word. John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
yeah I was also a little baffled by the "introducing" part....but she looks like she's going to be excellent in this, just like she was a great (the best of the) Cassie Lang.
No offense or disrespect to Rachel McAdams but it would've been more interesting if they got Evangeline Lilly to her Mom. It would've had more of a Cassie Lang/Hope Van Dyne feel to it.
I was in junior high in the early 70s when I read this book and it was so great to read something that resonated with my life. The soundtrack alone is going to make me cry, remembering this time period (no pun intended), and how mad I was at my mother when they did the menstruation teaching in school because it seemed like I was the only girl in the room who did not already know what they were talking about, lol. The casting looks great. Can't wait to see it. This movie is a long time coming and relieved that they kept it 70s.
I am visually impaired and I’m very happy that I’ve been seeing comments that say they didn’t modernize this movie. It honestly wouldn’t feel the same to me if it was modernized. I used to read this book a lot when I was little so I’m excited to see how the movie turns out!
On one hand, I’m mind-boggled that it took this long to make this classic into a movie and I’m thrilled that new generations will have a chance to discover this book. Like a lot of 70s and 80s kids, I read my copy of Are You There God to shreds. On the other hand I’m glad that they waited til now because an earlier version would have gone in too hard on the “sensitivity” of the topic and probably been painful to watch, and this looks like it has a much lighter touch. I’m looking forward to it.
Seeing Sylvia Simon and Morris Binamin at a table together and the girls chanting makes me SO DARN EXCITED to see this!!! I hope it does so well she’ll have no choice but to make Summer Sisters, a movie I’ve been dreaming of for decades.
My mom gave me this super complicated sex talk when I was 5 and about five years later, she gave me a copy of this before I could ask any more questions. I think it helped when I started my period at school a year later because I ended up with a huge maxi pad, waddling around school, thinking “at least it’s not a belt contraption …” Bless you, Judy Bloom.
@@GeG-u3j - yeah ... she wasn't comfortable talking about it all. I'm pretty sure she was hoping I'd think it was too complicated and I wouldn't bother her with more questions.
@@GeG-u3jFive does sound very young to talk about puberty, but nowadays, girls seem to be starting puberty much earlier than they did more than 25 years ago. I think that certain hormones found in meat are to blame for it.
Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary inspired me to read so much. This book, Blubber, Fifteen, Forever, Superfudge, Beezus and Ramona series.....I spent hours locked away reading. I'm 51 and I'll definitely be going to see this because it is my childhood. ❤❤❤
this book was such an escape for me as a kid. i still have the copy from that year with the original cover. it's sacred to me. judy blume is such a master. love her.
I recently watched this movie and I have to say I loved it! It felt so well made and genuine compared to some of the movies today that feel cheap and rushed. I think it really helps girls feel seen and stays genuine to the book. All the characters were relatable and warm. Honestly, if you haven't watched it and you want to watch something truly light-hearted, then this movie is perfect.
just saw this movie today! though i’m a 90’s baby, i read this book through and through as a kid. judy blume, dear dumb diary & judy moody were a HUGE part of my childhood / preteen years, and reliving that nostalgia was the best feeling in the world! 🥰
This looks incredible. I'm getting all the feels :) So happy they didn't modernize it and mess with the story. I'm excited to see this on the big screen, the cast looks amazing.
To say I love this book is such an understatement. I wasn’t allowed to go outside as a kid so I read Judy Blume and Beverly Clearly books. Every Friday our class had library and I checked out a new book. I bought my tickets already for the April 19th showing. I’m almost 46 years old and if this movie hadn’t come out until I was 86, I would still go to see it. I am SO excited!!
"We must! We must! we must increase our bust!" I laughed out loud when I heard and saw them performing that line, as my mother used to do that when she was a young girl growing up in the same time period depicted in this movie.
Caught this movie at a screening recently, went in without knowing anything about it or the book. Such a beautiful sweet movie! All the characters are rich and the acting is amazing, but it’s the deft and subtle storytelling that was the star. Loved it, and recommend everyone to watch it!
I'm being honest here and I think.. This was the best movie ever! I'm pretty sure this will be my favorite movie forever. Keep up the good work Lionsgate!!
@@kellymaurucio1490 Here are some Ideas for Ant-Man Fanfiction Stories involving Cassie Lang. 1. Cassie all grown up getting through High School, bullies, spending time with her Father, bonding with Hope (mentoring her in Martial Arts). Spending time with Hank & Janet as well. 2. Hope inviting Cassie to spend time with Female Superheroes, like Natasha Romanoff, Gamora, Jessica Jones, Okoye, Wanda Maximoff, Susan Storm, Carol Danvers and Bobbi Morse. She gets to know them and they mentor her so that she'll be ready to become a Superhero someday too. 3. Imagine Cassie Lang getting invited to join the Young Avengers. 4. This would be a Romance story, Cassie falling in love with Harley Keener (Iron Man 3). Imagine going on Missions together, babysitting Scott & Hope's daughter, they would also have their 1st time together. 5. Cassie going to Disneyland with her Father.
Omg this book 💗💗. Brings back 5th grade all over again. It's great to see all the comments from so many different generations who have loved this book! 5th grade was the early 90s for me. I remember being so confused about what a "sanitary belt" was. Thankfully, I had until 7th grade to figure out I'd be using either pads or tampons lol.
I grew up in the 70s reading many Judy Blume books and this one was the very first. Brings back a lot of good childhood memories, I was an avid reader and loved going to the library and bringing home a stack of books. I will be taking my two middle school neice's to see the movie, great coming of age story.
My mom gave me the book when I 13, I didn’t read it until a year later. But once I finished I absolutely loved it, to this day it’s one of my favourite books
I read this book in middle school (either sixth or seventh grade) and did a book report on it (my choice). I identify as nonbinary, but this book still stays with me. It helped so much at the time. Im so happy it's getting a movie. Im hopefully going to see it with my mom. Thank you Judy Blume 🧡
Probably like a lot of people, this was one of the books I reread the most as a kid - it both taught me what a period was and shaped my views on God. I never thought it could be made into a movie because a lot of the story is about periods and I wasn't sure how that would come across on screen, but this looks good.
I love love me some Kathy Bates. I saw her face and instantly clicked. I was an avid book reader growing up. The movie that did it for me is Little Darlings, with Tatum O'Neil and Kristy M Nichols. This one looks like it's going to be a classic too. Can't wait.😻😻😻
This movie was being filmed on the street of my job in 2021! It was incredible to see the set up, cameras, crew and even saw Kathy bates and Rachel McAdams with all the 70s props. I'd watch them from my window when i had a lunch break and take in all the excitement. Biggest thing I remember was "wow... sooooo many extras!" Lol. They used a portion of our building for the catered food and some of the extras (children) gave me a cupcake from their catered food. I didn't eat it though. I've been waiting a long time to finally see the trailer! Looks great🤗
A friend and I just saw this. So good. Very funny & heartwarming. She had read the book as a kid, I hadn't but we both really liked it. I think it is definitely important for young girls. There's not many movies (or books) that talk about these kinds of things. It's surprising still after so many years. First thing after I got home I told my siblings that their daughters need to watch it. Either with their friends or as a mother-daughter outing.
I read the book at 12 after I found it at the library. I had just begun to see “Flo” every month. I graciously passed it on to my younger sister when she turned 12 a year later. As a middle school teacher, several copies were avail le in my classroom library. It was one of the books I had to replace every two years because it was checked out so often. Lots of memories as a teen and adult with this book. Finally, Judy Blume’s ingenuity will be on display for the world to see. Waiting to see Beverly Cleary and Mildred Taylor books at the theater soon!
It was so weird. Before the movie began, they play ads for upcoming movies, food, etc. what was really weird was the volume in the theater. As I got closer to the theater, the sound emanating fro t was deafening. Then when I asked the manager to run it down, she said that she’d do it in a minute, except that minute never came. I ended up leaving before the movie started. I still don’t know what that was l about.
One of my favorite books!!! Love Judy Blume. Been looking forward to this. Im 32 and I read this when I was 11...read it numerous times since then and love it just as much today.
Love this is being made to a movie. I read this and other Judy blume books and even read them to my daughters before bed. When I read to them it was supposed to be one chapter every night but they never wanted me to stop. These are my most precious memories. Judy Blume books bring everyone together. I still have the books. They are a little worn but I just can't throw them away.
I read this book and all the other Judy Blume books while I was in elementary school. I read this book and Deenie soo many times. They were passed down from my grandma to my mom to me. I'm so excited to see this!
I’m with you. I don’t understand what’s so scary about this book. If anything it’s helped so many prepubescent girls feel less alone and awkward about their feelings.
To say I am excited to see this movie is a severe understatement! Read this book as a preteen and loved it. Never did I think that it would now be so special to me for other very personal reasons! Cannot wait to see it!!!! All I know is I will be crying me eyes out and be filled with pride!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I’m the same age as you and I feel the same way! I loved Forever as well ❤️

When you go see it your mom will be there in your heart and mind so yes, you will be watching it together.
I’m sorry for your loss!
The nostalgia 🙌🏾 and when they said the infamous “We must, we must, we must increase our bust” 🤣 can’t wait for this
The way we said it in the early sixties was, "We must, we must, we must IMPROVE our bust!"

All those authors were mine friends too! When I felt alone, the characters became my friends and I’d escape into their worlds. Born in 1968. ❤️

@@pavlevidojevic9223who, Rachel macadams?
Who? There’s tons of girls. How are we supposed to know who your talking about?
Love it!
what did you think about girls when you read it? as a girl, I thought all the girls were really dumb, and if boys read this book, they must think we were all really dumb because we were portrayed as idiots in the book.
Justin did that make you more understanding, and more sensitive to Women issues as you went through life?
7th grade for me and my Mother relegated this task to my oldest sister . . They had no clue that I’d known all about it for years y’all!!
Sounds like a book idea you might be the one to write!
Lol, didn't get mine until freshman year of high school.
@@katetsubata Dear God, it’s me… menopause:)
I was 15 years old and I didn't feel abnormal because 15 is late yes but it is not completely unusual, if I didn't by 15 plus then I would feel abnormal.
I read this book SO many times in my teens... It kept me sane during the weirdest point in my life!! And Rachel McAdams is in it as a bonus!! ❤️❤️❤️
Me too, read it so many times. ❤️❤️
Same 🙋🏽♀️
ok
ok
Me too, lol. My closest friends and I created a club like in the book. Unfortunately, they all developed before me. By the time we were in Junior High, some of us grew apart. Just 2 of us still told each other when we got our periods. The end of innocence.
I remember my fifth grade teacher reading this book aloud in class. We all got excited when it was “story time.” She gave that book life.😊
She said " it's story time" and she storied all over the place.

With everything going crazy in the world, it is such a true delight to see this wonderful book made into a movie. What a wonderful thing to look forward to. Cannot wait to see this!
I think every girl I knew in the 70’s read this book. It was a must have. I’m now nearing 60 and I’m so glad they finally made this into a movie.
I second that emotion 🙏🏻💯🤲
I lost track of how many times I read this book while growing up in the 70s. It’s amazing that it’s taken this long for it to be made into a movie!
Multiverse Of Madness When 2022
I'm honestly surprised that a movie version of this book doesn't already exist.
I am too. I'm surprised it took them so long.
even gen-zers grew up with this book, or at least i did, judy blume books will forever be classics
All that unnecessary shame.
right!
this book means so much to me.
The Rotten Tomatoes critics score is 99%. That's probably the highest rated movie of the year so far on RT, that's quite amazing
I am SO GLAD Judy Blume is still alive to see this!! … WHY did it take so long??
Studios weren't interested in the book and Blume is concern about the way Hollywood adapts books to movies which is why he rejected the offer for 50 years
i’d love for them to make more judy blume books into films or a series.. her books feel timeless
A character named Farley Drexel Hatcher comes to mind.

"and introducing Abby Ryder Fortson"
We do know that Fortson appeared as Cassie Lang in the MCU as a little girl, and now she's all grown up and she'll star in the film adaptation of Judy Blume's coming-of-age novel.
Rachel McAdams is one of the loveliest, gorgeous , and kind actresses who ever lived !
I am visually impaired and I’m very happy that I’ve been seeing comments that say they didn’t modernize this movie. It honestly wouldn’t feel the same to me if it was modernized. I used to read this book a lot when I was little so I’m excited to see how the movie turns out!
I remember reading this book as a pre teen, it introduced me to the wonderful world of reading...📖💛
I deeply appreciate that they decided to make it a period (ha!) piece.
LMAO @ the belt. I too, started my period just a few years after the belts became obsolete - thank goodness!
I think 5 is way too young. 10 makes way more sense

I’m about to be 28 years old and Judy Blume was literally the best thing that happened to me in my adolescence. This was my FAV book of all time
I recently watched this movie and I have to say I loved it!

"We must! We must! we must increase our bust!"
I laughed out loud when I heard and saw them performing that line, as my mother used to do that when she was a young girl growing up in the same time period depicted in this movie.
Caught this movie at a screening recently, went in without knowing anything about it or the book. Such a beautiful sweet movie! All the characters are rich and the acting is amazing, but it’s the deft and subtle storytelling that was the star. Loved it, and recommend everyone to watch it!

OMG Rachel McAdams is playing mum? Where does the time go? It was like yesterday when she played with Ryan in The Notebook as a teenager.
Just because you think you don't have a gender, doesn't mean you don't. You're still a girl/woman!
Nonbinary? you mean nonsense

Thank you for being a teacher ❤ I was the kid who ate lunch with a book! I’m taking my granddaughter to see this movie today 🎉 Time flys ❤
This book is such an important part of my childhood. Can’t wait to watch this! Judy Blume is amazing.
I can’t wait. Loved all the Judy Blume books as a kid in the 70s💕👍
Wow. Nostalgia. I just finished reading this book as an adult and relived my teenage years. Wow
I read this book and all the other Judy Blume books while I was in elementary school. I read this book and Deenie soo many times. They were passed down from my grandma to my mom to me. I'm so excited to see this!
I just watched it in the movie theaters and I can say 100 out of ten definitely worth watching
I'm supporting it to advocate that this does not need to be silenced as some in government would think it does .
I’m with you.
I don’t understand what’s so scary about this book. If anything it’s helped so many prepubescent girls feel less alone and awkward about their feelings.
I went to see this with my mm yesterday. We both liked it.
Okay, the “WE MUST! WE MUST! WE MUST INCREASE OUR BUST!!!” Was the most iconic part
I love this! I read this book so many times! I am excited to see the movie! “We must we must we must increase our bust” 😭😭
This book was a blessing for girls whos moms forgot that they were supposed to explain this stuff to their daughters.. no google in 1988❤
Unbelievable that this wasn't made sooner. Watching this reminded me of what a great story it is.
I cannot BELIEVE a movie is finally being made based off this book! ❤❤❤❤
To say I am excited to see this movie is a severe understatement! Read this book as a preteen and loved it. Never did I think that it would now be so special to me for other very personal reasons! Cannot wait to see it!!!! All I know is I will be crying me eyes out and be filled with pride!! ❤❤❤❤❤
This is one my First READS as a YA. And I am STOKED that a movie adaptation is coming out!
Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret will definitely be a must watch for me in April because of
Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates &
Abby Ryder Fortson!
