    My 2015 Hyundai Genesis with 74,821 miles caught on fire while I was at a friend’s house yesterday. I searched up on Google “Hyundai fires” and I found there’s a whole recall on this. Smh. HYUNDAI AND KIA NEVER SENT ME A LETTER. Thank God Hyundai is paying the car off and insurance covered it. No more Korean cars for me..

      Cars aren’t getting any better, they are getting worse and worse as time marches on. I’d rank a majority of 2010’s cars being worse in build quality compared to 70’s and 80’s cars since there’s cheap plastic everywhere, and quality control has been suffering in the past few years as well.

    There was a whistleblower a few years back in Korea when this began to happen about 5 years ago. He was silenced and can never get a job. He stated the problem lies in a engine design flaw but HKMC simply could not be bothered as a recall meant spending money.
    Anyone working for a supplier to HKMC in Korea knows that they are notorious for wanting parts for cheap and almost always strong arm the supplier for either "cheaper price or no business deal"

    This makes me sad, my family has owned Kia's/Hyundais since I was little. They've all treated us well. But to think that their 2010-2015 vehicles are this bad has me shocked tbh. Their cars are safety hazards. Kia/Hyundai need to check themselves before they send themselves into bankruptcy with all these repairs they have to do, first the engine failing problem, now this? I just bought a brand new Hyundai, I guess I'll just hope for the best until my loan term ends. My next car will not be a Hyundai Kia product. And imagine how many other customers they have lost due to this as well. Sorta sad when you think their reputation was starting to improve.

They will make sure not to have this problem again and learn from it so you should be fine with the newer ones even 2015 and up on most but I am positive the 2016 and up are going to be really good overall. My family has a 2015 optima (Made in Korea not shitty Georgia) and a 2014 or 2015 Sorento and no problems since. So.... Glad we got rid of our Kia!. We owned and bought a used 2007 Kia Sportage EX V6 with 80,000 miles from drivetime and had the beige leather interior and was fully loaded without the heated heats. The engine went out at 126,000 miles and it would overheat during the time frame. And then we tried getting it fixed and it would smoke like crazy and have engine power loss. And went out again at 136,000 miles. Got money from the hail damage claim to fix it up again with the engine and A/C. That went out the first 10 months of ownership. Engines timing belt snapped and broke at 151,000 miles. We let it sit for a couple of months and finally got rid of it due to the amount of money we put into it and still owed money on it. Insurance paid it off anyway. We replaced that car with a 2017 Ford Focus SEL sedan in Oxford white and is fully loaded without the cold weather package. My mom and I did drive that Sportage before we got rid of it. I’ve been driving my 2010 Toyota Camry LE 2.5L 6A. For about a year. I highly recommend getting a Toyota compared to these stupid kias that will be money pits and dangerous to own and drive and be left on the side of the road.

    In the 1970's, Ford automatic transmissions had weak parking pawls. They were known to slip out of park while engine was running, killing or injuring unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians. Their solution? A warning label applied to the dashboard reminding the driver to never leave car unattended with engine idling and transmission lever in the park position. You can see videos right here on TH-cam of Ford cars circling in reverse while people try to figure out how to stop them.

    • @littlegoobie
      @littlegoobie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that's not the sitation for everyone. Consider if it was you who just spent $40K on a brand new VW. then the computer gets fixed to not rig the emission results. It could put your car above allowable limits for where you live. Now you're stuck with a brand new car that cannot be registered and put on the road where you live (you register after getting a pass on its regular emission tests) now that new car basically worthless to you and you can't even sell it unless you haul it across the country or wherever emissions testing isn't a requirement.

Kia is the walmart of cars, move in with crappy lower priced goods and when the market is strong wrap those crappy goods in leather and charge what the competitors do because your products are seen as being widely used. Kia and hyundai dealerships tend to attract first time buyers or buyers with poor credit who have no understanding of the cost of ownership. This is *by far* not the only manufacturer to have an issue like this. It's more common than most are aware.

      Just saw a Lexus RX350 after the fact in their driveway. It just caught fire they claim after hearing a loud noise outside. If it was in their garage they probably have damage in their house. They claim the work was done to fix the recall. The fix obviously was worse than the potential problem. Dealership repairs are no guarantee of good workmanship.
