I love these gentleman! Been really enjoying PFT's self-disclosures about being a "late bloomer" in his standup, and it is refreshing to that Mr. Hodgman is similarly self-aware. It's almost ironic that this trait appears so visibly in two men with rather costumed appearances -- although methinks it not a contradiction at all.
Every episode of Speakeasy is like watching PFT on a charming first date that's going very well.
Paul is the best interviewer. John is his muse.
Hodgman and PFT are pretty much my two favorite comedy-type people in the world right now! Seeing them together is fantastic! Or, at least, I assume it will be... I haven't actually watched the video yet... got so excited at the prospect of it, I had to comment immediately.
You might enjoy this, too: thedeadauthorspodcast.libsyn.com/chapter-20-ayn-rand-featuring-john-hodgman
***** I enjoyed that long ago. :) I'm subscribed to the Dead Authors podcast. It DID, however, momentarily slip my mind that I'd heard them together (if not actually being themselves) on that when I made my comment here initially, though.
Check out the music video for "Bottled in Cork" by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Paul and John both appear in it.
PFK was a guest baliff on John's incredible podcast Judge John Hodgman... that's how I found his content and I am so glad I did. He is such an excellent human being.
i love watching Paul F. Tompkins interview another Paul F. Tompkins, over drinks. Perfection.
Man...this show should have gotten *_WAY_* more attention...genius. And these two have _such_ good chemistry....their styles are so complimentary! Hilarious.
This has to be one of the best episodes of Speakeasy. It is comedy GOLD from start to finish. These guys need to work together more often!
The Thrilling Adventure Hour. You're Welcome.
John Hodgman is my favorite person that I don't know personally.
PFT is mine lol. Great choice though. John Hodgman is great
Right? I love going to sleep with his audiobooks
I've met John a few times and he's even better in person!
This was one of my top Speakeasy episodes so far. Two of the best 'staches in show biz.
that was the best 94-second intro to anything ever
Hodgman and PFT should definitely do more things together.
I actually found this by looking up both names together because I had just confused them for each other and though “well if they remind me of each other and have similar styles of comedy, I wonder whether I can find any instances of them working together”
These two really look like they could just hook arms and go skipping into comedic genius together.
Their roleplay starting at the 8:00 mark is absolutely hilarious!
there needs to be more of this their back and forth is great. two of my favorite humorists
Paul F. Tomkins sounds like a great writers name actually. And the stache doesn't hurt!
I heart both of these people so much. Between them, Sifl & Olly, and Beavis and Butthead, none of my friends know what I’m referencing
Less than two minutes in and I'm already on the ground. The fucking music comes in and everything.
Is John Hodgman's laugh literally just 'hee hee hee hee'?
John Hodgman is the perfect guest for this show.
That intro was fantastic, I would watch Speakeasy with John Hodgman.
PFT's adorable mustache clipping envy at 19:39 ❤️
I'm a minute and a half in and already this is one of my favorites.
Its the Late Late Show with Paul F. Thompkins! Do it CBS. Do it! DO IT!
PFT is too good an interviewer for Colbert to feel secure at his job I guess
I want Speakeasy to never ever end. I love these short 'play along with PF Thompkins' episodes. Most adorable in my book.
1:32 I'M DYING THAT WAS SO GOOD
This was such an amazing episode, absolutely loved it
Never heard of John Hodgman before, but he's hilarious.
*Simply Brilliant*
Great work from Paul F Tompkins keeping up with that! Another fine #SpeakEasy from Made Man
_two excellent taches also_
+Pierre ware the song is called "spooky" originally performed by Classics IV and covered by many others. you may know the version by Dusty Springfield from the movie Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. not sure who plays the version here, may be just a generic studio made track special for this show
I'd love to hear Paul's Ramen Intollerant Author / Mac N' Cheese Miner on Comedy Bang Bang sometime.
Loved this so much! Thanks for a great Speakeasy.
The match smoke and flick were perfect. Loved it.
Reasons why PFT is funnier than me, number 129: He said cheesepertise instead of expercheese.
These two are having such a hard time keeping a straight face in front of each other. I LOVE IT! xD
I could listen to this for hours
Good to watch this. Makes me think about my own writing and what I want to do with it!
21:23 loved John's answer here.
That was thoroughly enjoyable.
"I've developed a Ramen intolerence..." LOLOL!
***** Huh? what does autism have to do with anything?
***** ah...gotcha. What can I say, I guess I love the classics.
+Andre is Anakele also it was hilarious in the video! @8:55
Would love to watch Speakeasy with John Hodgman. Seriously, Made Man, think about it.
What a delightful fop-off.
Hodgman is the only person allowed to look in P.F. Tompkin's camera.
and reggie watts, because he's just adorable
That was amazing.
Perfection.
Great episode
How often do they upload this?, i like this type of interviews...He really needs to get Andy Daly on this show
Greatest of the greats.
Is John Hodgman doing an excellent impression of Vince Gilligan? Or is Vince Gilligan doing an excellent impression of John Hodgman? Either way we all win!
Fantastic!
John Hodgman would be a great villain on Criminal Minds.
Love this! Will Pft interview me?!
21:23
"John..."
"WHAT?!"
It's kind of a funny thing how "celebrities" solidify in your mind over time after seeing them here and there. But for me it was a good couple years of seeing these guys around before I knew for sure in my mind that they were two different people.
That's it, I'm off to get a cheese toastie.
Tremendous!
Just watching flight of the conchordes and who should appear?John Hodgeman!! Legend.
best opening
In the movie, Paul will be played by 1980s Kevin Kline.
Damn, he did not once say "Don't look in my camera" and it was so warranted!
I've often wondered if the world would end if the two of them were in the same place and time.
These two are such perfect brothers. Hodgman is hilarious as always. Novelists make for great narcissists XD
Totally dig the Hodge
The perfect well dressed combination.
These are almost too good.
Does anybody know the name of the theme music that's played at the beginning and end?
Shocked that John Hodgman was allowed to look into Paul's camera without comment. I assume he was given a stern talking to off camera.
No sir, it is a matter of mustaches, PFT had no choice but to bend in this situation.
Why? Never heard of Paul until now. It’s not like he is anybody. Big deal he hosts a youtube channel and whatever little else he’s done to get there. I don’t understand why people thinks it’s a big deal. It’s just a camera angle.
They're shootin the Bries
best intro
ever
They could pass for step brothers.
This ought to be interesting... The mirror match-up!
Yes-and marathon.
John looked into PFT's camera several times and he wasn't confronted even once???
Clifford Bowe what’s the big deal? It’s not like Paul is anybody. I just heard of him tonight. It’s just a camera angle.
I want PFT to have a talk show so bad. I want to see guests actually enjoy being there and him losing it and guffawing into the microphone.
I bought Areas of my Expertise without knowing A) who John Hodgman was or B) that it was the second book it the series. I got it for like $3 as Borders was shutting down. I really need to go back and read it again hearing his voice in my head.
My mustache is all a-quiver!
Hes not kidding about the kit....
I'm not classy enough to watch this interview, I feel.
goodnight everyone LOL
I'm almost positive that this show, which is amazing but sadly switched to a comedian who doesn't match it, sorry Russell Peters but PFT matches this so much better, is inspired by Man to Man with Dean Learner, a great show that followed the cancellation of an amazing show Garth Marenghi, starring Richard Ayoade as the titular host. It's intro and ending is quite similar. I wonder if PFT was a fan. Both fantastic men. And John is the most adorable and the best.
yeah i didn't make it past the second or so interview with Russell Peters, whichever was the Anthony Jeselnik interview. when Peters admitted to having another comedian basically format his show for him because he didn't know about pacing or how to actually construct a show, i stopped watching. you could see Anthony was kinda shocked , like "why would admit that and/or assume other comedians do that?" lost any respect i may have had for him, plus his whole interview style felt very forced, his questions were very leading and he just doesn't have the same experience that PFT can bring to the table. PFT can relate to virtually every story he's told because he'd been in every aspect of show business for so long, from standup to improv to acting to voiceover/ad work and everything in between, he's either already experienced it, heard about it before or was a participant.
To this day I wonder if the man could handle the robustest of an aged Manchego.
that was fucking great
Battle of the Staches!
Wow. He didn't get scolded for looking into Paul's camera. I'm pretty sure that's a first.
Big questions to Made Man : WHY hasn't Jack Black or Kyle Gass (or both) been on Speakeasy yet?!
HE HE HE HE HE HE HE
This is basically a tailored suit-off.
SOREN
Beyond belief fans? Any one??? No? Just me? Awwww
Hodgman bears an uncanny resemblance to Heinrich Himmler.
Expercheese! #missedopportunity
Umm I've developed a ramen intolerance
How the blarp can there possibly be any dislikes? That's just nar-nar.
2 4
what's up with his chin hair? it's...leaving something to be desired.
It grows in that shape and has been trimmed. Good day sir!
But he's the devil, and we're in purgatory!
John Hodgman doesn't have to work.
