I do believe there is some evidence of support for Jim Jones in this gathering. Just referring to Jones as "Reverend" is adherent and insulting to all real men and women of the cloth.

    • @IsmailofeRegime

While his "Peoples Temple Christian Church" was pretty remote from Christianity, he was an ordained minister affiliated with a mainstream denomination and he interacted with the outside world as a reverend, so calling him "Rev." isn't out of place, even if I wouldn't do so.

Especially when Jones only became a reverend in the first place because he thought that was the best way to push Marxism, and once he had his congregation in place in San Francisco he was openly hostile and dismissive toward the Bible. He encouraged Jonestown residents to use it as toilet paper. Socialism was the god of Jones and Jonestown.

You see when Eugene was describing the Jones stayed on the 3rd floor when they were living in Temple, he looked at John and said "isn't that where you stayed" ?..Johnn Cobb wants to talk about the good because he was apart of a lot the BAD & even Stephan Jones admitted somethings he did and HAD TO DO to avoid certain situations. Smith & Stephan seem like honorable men. And I understand doing what you have to survive; but this is something that should be talked about over & over again ALL ASPECTS OF IT! I too, as many other commentors have expressed, felt that John Cobb was “shady” to say the least. However, as I kept watching/listening I paid attention to his intentions which were not to absolve guilt or shame but to also share some of the light that otherwise would be buried under everything that was corrupt or failure. I think he’s just trying to tell a different story and not take away from the ones we all know which he also expressed are very true and horrific. Particularly, hearing that he and other people who would have stood up against him happened to all be gone during the event gives some doubt of their cowardice or moral turpitude

I get John Cobb point that people of Jonestown were interested in social justice to make it a better world. They were not a bunch of fanatics but dedicated to the cause unfortunately led by evil man. It justirks me that he is not fully acknowledging the real conditions of Jonestown. The majority of that population was held against their will. There were horrific stories of abuse, domineering insane leader and mass murder along with suicide which is the People's Temple legacy. Example: the Nazis are identified with the Holocaust and starting WW II, it really doesn't matter all the good things this party did for the German people

I agree. These people were never free to go. All you have to do is listen to some of the audio recordings of Jones screaming at potential deserters, scaring them into believing that they’d die in the jungles, get bit by snakes, etc. All of the loyalty tests that would occur. Everyone was watching everyone, ready to blow the whistle on any potential deserter just for even bringing up leaving. Fear, and the guilt of betraying Jones and his/her fellow followers kept many in place. Well, not to mention the armed guards.

I still remember as a child the image of the dead bodies on the evening news, and now today being middle age, it always sends chills and creeps me out to see the videos of this man, the church and the brainwashing that went on. One of the panelists said that the church attracted many intelligent people, and that may be true but there were also ignorant souls, drug addicts and poor children born into this cult. My question is WHY DIDN'T PEOPLE SEE ALL THE RED FLAGS before surrendering all of their assets and going to Guyana? Some people I guess fell prey to this man's (jim) sales skills and gift of gab, remember he was a business man who sold monkeys? and he was already talking suicide and calling him God before going to Guyana! And to top it all off one of the survivors said in an interview that this sicko personally said to him "I'll F*K you in the ass if you want, just let me know...and this guy STILL WENT TO GUYANA AND REMAINED A LOYAL MEMBER! @@dqverify6797 That's a good point but I think it's important to remember that many of his members HAD to recite Marxist rhetoric in order to avoid suspicion by the inter circle and Jones in particular. The fact that many cannot even pronounce much of their 'own statements' tells me they simply didn't believe in it, because it wasn't their thoughts, and likely thought it was mere political bs anyway (something which Jones spouted every single day).
Having said that, Jim Jones and some of his inner circle absolutely were, or became, radical types who were increasingly aware of the power they held, because they were AWAY from the US and the watchful eye off the authorities, and which they could try and enforce their own paranoid, and murderous, fantasies - usuallyupon the ordinary, and helpless, members of Jonestown.
Near the end, jonestown was being run by tyrants. It was literally a case of the fox guarding the chicken coop and i truly wonder just how much the 900 or so understood this. Despite them truly wanting this to be a loving commune, which it could have been, with people from all backgrounds, the danger they were constantly in was in the extreme bracket. No wonder many tried to flee it.

The people in the People's Temple were mostly good people with good aims, in fact I imagine much of their California work with feeding and housing disadvantaged communities and their (unique for the time) inter-racial outreach would have resonated even more in the climate of 2021 with BLM etc than even it did in the 1960s and 1970s. But their leader was a maniac, and their demise unnecessarily cruel and pitiful. Maybe there was a stockholm syndrome involved in so many good hearted people following a bad seed over the cliff. I think it might be this enigma that still resonates with people and makes the Temple so compelling to study to this day, 40+ years after that fateful, final night.

Keys to me are, the role of the unites states, USA has 2nd amendment or it may even be the first, it is the first amendment, mhm. What does the church and the separation of government, in which a government official goes out of jurisdiction to a sovereign land with a entity alike MSNBC, and there isn't a side from the pastor which entails goodness. I would imagine without the distort from the outside the taint of why everything about this mans vision is wrong to my generation. I think the congressman visited there with a purpose to help. Help in terms of relief, fresh water, a huge buffet, shoes, I think the people figured that the United States government would not send a party member to spy on the church. between indigenous populations to the east west and south that they prayed for protection and add on simple mathematics and you have serious problems present that burst. I can't begin to bloviate as a Christian, and where I see Krishna the minds eye in Israel certain places I see dead people in essence and that footage isn't 3-4 generations removed and I can see how easy it is to free the spirits of the suicide victims, free the sprites of the suicide victims and Jesus name I'm not empowered to do that, imma Constantine type figure I war roar and lions have the smallest penis. I'm gone n-word, haha. I seen when the gold it's not gold it's called a word I would makeup. Let's use hypothetical San Francisco (kingdom of Spain) gold rush, if its California gold rush without that label then it spotlights the innocence u see kingdom of Spain that's why something like gold rush is by me, it's my give of protection. But a emigrant wants that gold, some Africans maybe not see how a resource another resource like bronze, know it's gold. I'm saying some people will go after it. I think when I seen inside of that community there, that is the allegory metaphor gold is the camera, and once they seen what America had and has it flushed their mind like a I have to choose USA or here, I want to go back, and it's only because of that African that is around too and knows that the chances of them making it in USA doesn't bring the same mindset as the emigrant to California gold rush, y'all following me. That view contrast and contrarys' the notion that the man of god, they would survive had the separation of church and state.

I’m going to be fine, I was over in Virginia, viewing a video film, on Nat Turner. There is this one part that I share regarding the tie to why my mind is here, and between me and her, woman and I, I’m conquering Palmdale? Sunnyvale? I’m saying this is all about you, and my love for you, the not having you here, has distorted his world and I’m going to be fine. By the way, Nat Turner a squire before I didn’t follow thru in finish the comment on that video. Nat Turner presents the ultimate divinity; in slavery, i newb idk right from left personally, but I know of a pot prior to the Egyptian culture before pharaoh scorpion or king Medes, I’m implying for a person human still unclassified and undefined when I have to be found. .! Nat Turner wasn’t Nat Turner, Nat Turner wasn’t the Parrish or the preacher, he wasn’t god, his usage of what he knew at that era in world that called him a slave. I think as I refute being vessel for the spirit of the almighty, and speaking towards tomorrow a world I’m not happy in. But tomorrow and I mean 2075 in you 13, 21, 95. That environment it’s almost like I seen dna stain and could exert the strain and create a formula to make a hanging garden for her, cos that’s how loss I am. I sympathize i empathy for anyone that is today and it matters surrounding this incident again Nat Turner namesake. The spirit is uncanny in portrayal of what the world should know, I look at changing cloth I don’t think Nat Turner can imprint boldly (Catalina Villalpando)the image after a certain king I seen Jesus bow before him, god the father! All on the cross having being forsaked. This man would be offended cos man is a word in bible and it’s trial a tribulation, I can’t capture what it means to confess if to repent to forgive everything would mean that man wasn’t there. Look in depth at Nat. Who was he confessing to, is old, the new player in the universe are our god. god. Idk ... but we know that wii play. any thoughts, y’all want me to delete it?

There are secrets and to keep it let's examine a woman or mans virginity you keep it until marriage is the righteous message to anyone reading, but in this case regarding Victoria secrets allegory suggests when it's between yin and yang it's hard to stay at in between, your on one side or the other, you know I attest to there transitional phrases that I can't give as the reward throughout my life and greater deeper vintage the USA is my account with a joke Morgan chase, you know is not showing the amount needed to give that transitional phrase or adjective that is not defined, that's how far ahead I were and could drop a word that moving forward will be forever what I mean is there's a space between yin yang. That space I can do a lot in time so that to protectorate a being from themselves the people you state as is almost like a child the author said its a mans world, and the singer said its white mans burden, and us know it as Dylan Thomas as related too. So that as the Pentecostal movement at its finest transitioning seasons, that GOD the whether that dreaded day surfaced a enigma to the people we've since this wheatger really give the kingdom of Spain solace here in California, lots Angeles San Francisco you know I mean people hungered and gathered you label communities growth into cities and the pastor will protect his sheep as soldier for Christ turned general no, no!
